  1. In a split second a situation changes, and two people are in the wrong spot. In another moment somebody, or two people make poor choices. Seems tragic all around, and we don't know the whole dynamic, but I'll wait to see exactly what happened. Definitely a turn nobody wanted to take. When I think back, I could have been in a similar situation too many times, but was lucky!
  2. I think Lanning way of loading up at positions and then let the talent rise to the top is the only way now. Too many NIL players get to a program, get fat and happy, or transfer out at the first inkling of not starting. Recruit and then over recruit to create competition. I liked the idea of derecruiting players, but I think it is also over recruiting. Let the competition scare the players away who aren't gamers. 'I heard you were pretty good in high school, so were the other guys we recruited at your position, so what now what!'
  3. Jordan Davis was a 3* recruit who started as a freshman at Georgia. He went on to become a 1st round draft pick. Question, will the Ducks have a freshman ready to play a man's position? Agree size matters for Lannings defense, and Jordan at 6' 6" 340lbs, fit the bill at Georgia. Jericho has the weight, more than enough there, does he have the motor, and football mind? I imagine once practices start one knows if a nose tackle has 'it' or not. Spring game will be an interesting test for the nose tackle position. I look forward to the analysis of the position by our astute faithful. The guy who he will line up against at center, Iapani, came in as a freshman and made some noise. I look for Jericho to make some noise if he is going to be the, or an answer at nose tackle.
  4. Highlights show he does it all. Wide receiver, punter, linebacker. Nice to have a legacy who loves to play the game trying to make it on the team. Also looked up track times and he runs track, not a blazer, but competes. Another kid named Helfrich pretty good hurdler! 5. I would say he has turned the program around twice. The second time was in the wrong direction, after a long-term contract was signed. Time for somebody to turn the program back around. We seem to need a younger, player type coach, worked for South Carolina! Agree times have changed, seems like Graves hasn't, can't change.
  6. I completely agree the defense is still progressing as is the program. A brand new head coach is going to take a few years to get it all together. The future looks very bright, indeed!
  7. The guy I want, #10 Robbie Avila. College basketball transfer portal 2024: Ranking top 60 players as Robbie Avila, Aaron Bradshaw test waters - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Here are the best transfers in the portal so far during college basketball's 2024 offseason
  8. Drafting qb's in the NFL is quite the show. Too many teams put unrealistic expectations on a young qb, while not understanding their strengths and weaknesses. You broke down Nix's skillset extremely well, great job! I also agree Denver may be his best shot at success. A coach who wants a game manager, and decision maker on strategic passing may get a diamond ready to shine. The one component of his game you didn't highlight is his intelligence. I tend to think his mind and maturity will put him in the first round. This will also give him at least a Kellen Clemens type of career.
  9. Agree speed can be coached, but straight away speed is just one element of many needed to be an effective receiver. There is some great videos about what it takes, and often straight away speed isn't the most important. Here is a video where our new coach breaks it down, for those interested.
  10. The science of speed comes down to a coach with a stop watch and an athlete trying to run fast. The coach notices a faster time and then he yells at the athlete to do whatever he did to run faster again . The other method, is the one I have been pounding the table for, recruit speed! Thankfully Lanning seems to have listened, :-)!
  11. My top ten, no order after #1 Dan Lanning Head Coach Will Stein Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Tosh Lupoi Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Junior Adams Co-Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Chris Hampton Co-Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Joe Lorig Special Teams Coordinator/Nickels Drew Mehringer Tight Ends Brian Michalowski Inside Linebackers A'lique Terry Offensive Line Tony Tuioti
  12. Sometimes you aren't sure there is cancer until you get a closer look. I think we are getting a closer look. I was often worried about our program going from long shot to a favorite just outside elite. Some people and programs don't do well in this transition. I would say Oregon has done a better job of hitting the next level than Coach Lock. Glad we we able to help him get to this point, hope he can move to the next level more gracefully going forward. This might be one of the problems Day has in his coaching group. I know he has at least once guy who got too big and well thought of for his abilities. He may have hired one more.
  13. When I look at stuff like this all I need to remember is 10% of Americans think the earth is flat, and another 9% aren't sure. What I am willing to say is I will agree to disagree. My opinion the author is........
  14. I will kindly disagree on the idea of if OSU had hired Brooks it would have saved the program. The beavs would have screwed that up too, I have little doubt. Look at the long line of great coaches the cougs have had, and they couldn't build a decent program there either. The Ducks, on the other hand, would have hired another coach who had struggled, and magically made him successful at building what we have. That is my story, and I am sticking to it!
  15. I like the saying the future is already here, we just don't recognize it, yet. Oregon athletics has always been the future, except our Athletic Director, and it still is. As we enter the BIG, the rest of the country will become even more aware of our innovative ways and cutting edge style. Another comment is you can't buy innovation and really pull it off. Tosu is trying to buy some of the innovation with our old coach, but it won't work, many have tried the same route, dead end. We all know that guy who buys, tries to where something innovative, and it just doesn't work, that's tosu in a nutshell.
  16. Note to Mullens, when a coach has a generational talent, don't sign that coach to a longterm extension! It is the player, not the coach who just led the team to such lofty heights. When Helfrich had Marcus and he won the Heisman, what did he do, signed him to a crazy extension. Did he learn, no! When Graves had arguably the Heisman winner in college basketball, what did he do? He signed graves to a stupid contract. The AD doing it once, shame on the coach, the second time shame on the AD!
  17. I think the extra travel will be a wild card to the season. It has already been questioned with the game at Purdue an interesting test. Can the Ducks travel well? The difficulties against the Arizona schools make me worried about just how well we do when traveling greater distances. This will be the test within the test of playing a BIG schedule. I do think Lanning will be a better game day coach, and the level of the players talent will continue to rise. The indicator of the season will be Heisman hype of Gabriel. If Gabriel stays a front runner for the Heisman, Oregon just might pull off the miracle season! Overall the Oregon Athletic Programs will get even more exposure and respect nationwide!
  18. I mean he hired a prison guard who coached at the high school level, helped out with a couple colleges as an analyst then coached at the college level at one backwater university last time. If there is a coach who doesn't pick up a call from Lanning he is an idiot. Locklyn went from nobody to a top assistant in a couple years at Oregon. Oregon continues to be the place to go as an assistant, or as a head coach to ensure you become successful. If Lanning calls and offers, you just won the lottery! Oregon will be just fine, and I can't wait to hear who the next great assistant will be.
  19. Locklyn will land on his feet, but if this season disappoints Ryan Day's seat is very hot. The nuts are throwing a lot of money around and if that money doesn't buy improvement Locklyn may have chased a sinking boat. November 30th is when Day either loses his job, or buys himself one more year. Call me crazy, but this is the back story few are talking about.
  20. You had the hook in my mouth and I almost swallowed it until you stated the color purple was soothing to him. Just like saying the colors orange and black look good on me, nobody ever says that. Thanks for sharpening my game for the rest of the day!
  21. Lanning's reaction...... reload and don't miss a beat.
  22. Agree with many, our goal should be to go undefeated through the last games of the season. Not sure playing a tough early schedule will allow you to get to those last few games. The goal should be to get into and win the championship, end strong. For a long time the SEC has played 8 conference games, and a patsy late in the season. I never heard them speak to needing to play 9 conference games and get rid of the patsy because that is what the Pac-12 did. They did what it took to win the title, end of story. I couldn't care less what others are doing. The Ducks need to do what they need to do to win it all!
  23. Oregon game of the regular season, Big Ten Championship, end of story. Oregon needs to get to the Big Ten Championship game, the rest of the games are just setting us up for that game. I think the tosu is a big one, the Michigan game no doubt, it might even be the first big travel game against Purdue. All the games will be important, but the game the team needs to get to is the Championship game. We are then assured of making the playoffs, that is the next big goal. The final goal is to win the playoffs. So the game of the year, January 20th in Atlanta.
  24. There are ten other teams in the same situation as Oregon as far as the Pig-2 is concerned. With that in mind I can almost give Rob(bed) a pass on responsibility for the payouts, liability within the Pac-12 money's. What blows me away is to give the beavs a home game, and to take a home game away from us. You give the beavs even more money while screwing the Oregon faithful out of a home game? This is where you have to look at the two sides of the coin and make a decision. Should I help the beavs out, or do I stay loyal to the fans. Rob(bed) made his decision and all I can say is 'did he get a kick-back or what was going on!' Most of the time a school is left looking for a new AD when he leaves. I would say we should start looking now, and give him notice of intent to look for somebody who can lead us going forward. We need somebody who has the best interest of the fans, and the players, that isn't Rob(bed). Too many boneheaded decisions, I will say it, time to move on!
  25. Much like a lottery winner, it sounds good, but it never ends well. The Pig-2, love the name, will go down in flames much like every lottery winner. When you earn it you are much more likely to keep it, grow it and have something to show for it. I like where the Ducks are now and in the future. The beavs and cougs just sat there, did nothing, as the bus left the barn, and found themselves on the lucky end of a Larry Scott lottery.
