  1. I will always remember young qb from Burns who threw a perfect pass in his first attempt. The problem was it was perfectly thrown to a linebacker. Many in the stands that day wrote him off, but the young man never quit. Actually I take that back, he did quit after 11 season in the NFL. We should judge, but never give up on our young qb's, and maybe, just maybe they won't either.
  2. I would say Oregon doesn't follow, nor does it necessarily lead, we innovate, which drives others to follow. One thing we don't do is follow and imitate so I completely agree we shouldn't follow the sophomoric wave. I could definitely see something like the Hawkeye Wave, a beautiful tribute to something meaningful. That is innovative and has meaning, something right up Oregon's playbook. Until Oregon comes up with an innovative way to make the wave better, we don't do it! Happy Valentines to all of the women who frequent this site, and to the guys, don't forget it is Valentines!
  3. He was an upgrade, but it would have taken a miracle worker to get us out of the jam Lavish Larry had us in. A miracle and then.....
  4. I personally love the feathers look, and would love to see a more holistic uniform incorporating more feathers. I am no designer, but it would seem someone could have the helmet feathers all the way down to the shoes with a feather theme that works. I mean if we can do a pretty much complete eggshell look we can do a better job with feathers. Reason being is we are going to fly into the future, not lay anymore eggs!
  5. Let me give a little history here, having the jail blazers wasn't better than none at all. The best thing that could happen to the Blazers is to put the ownership we have now behind us. I do hope the blazers can get the spark they had back in '77, that would be something. Until the Paul Allen era is completely behind us I have little interest in the blazers. Bring in Phil Knight, new ownership, an Oregon vision, and I will start paying attention again.
  6. I have lived in Utah and in some towns phone books there is only a few last names, just saying. I lived there back when there were phone books. As far as Brandon and Gatlin they grew up in different towns, but I suspect there is some connection. Mormons have very large families, and I have much respect for the religion, and the missions these young people go on. This is the third Bair from Idaho, don't forget Stetson. Stetson played for the Ducks back in the day!
  7. Brilliant, been saying for a long time they should adopt the soccer type of subdivisions. If a team, program drops they drop out of the top division, those who are competitive move up, and you have competition. That kind of movement already happened with the cougs and beavs not making the cut to any meaningful conference. It also happened to the buffs, and Arizona schools. Creating divisions like you propose would only codify something that already happens in the real world. Now how do you create a functioning NCAA, that is the tough part.
  8. Stars and fanfare are great, but the rubber meats the road in games and with how he ends up. I think with two more years, and the experience he will have on a mission the guy will be the kind of leader every team needs. Also it will be critical where he is sent on his mission. If he spends most of his time in some far away underdeveloped country then his fitness may suffer. I will say whatever fitness is lost he will gain in character. One thing guaranteed is Lanning will be here when he gets done, and his place on the team and on the track will be waiting for him. Best of luck to this young man with 5* potential.
  9. Beat out Michigan and speed is back in a big way! https://www.si.com/college/oregon/recruiting/gatlin-bair-nations-top-uncommitted-recruit-chooses-oregon
  10. Who do you see making an impact? Jacobs seems to be the guy that a lot is expected of. There are also some speedy guys who seem to have what Coach is looking for. What does everyone see happening at this position which hasn't before, and who will make that difference?
  11. Back there it isn't the rule of law, it's the rule of Aww Shucks! And the secret handshake, of course.
  12. I came on here looking for that quote, take the points. Could have been the Lions coming down the field to tie it up, now they are down 10 trying for a miracle. Dan are you watching?
  13. In this era there will always be transfers from the weak to the strong. Agree we should be careful about culture issues, but Lanning is the man as far as building team culture. I am very impressed with how he uses this roster and the continuity of effort and output. What I am most curious about is the impact on the program of a new coach, and all the transfers in the position group. We have had some decent talent in the backfield, but the output has sometimes waned. Will this position group become a larger strength of the program going forward? Has Lanning fixed this position group? As we all know having a first round draft pick back there didn't fix it. Having depth didn't fix it. Will these moves fix this important part of the defense?
  14. I thought college initiation hazing rituals were frowned upon? I guess the BIG college football fraternities hazing practices are alive and well. We better take them like a man this year or we might get it worse next year. 'Thank you may I have another, I mean 8 straight!' 'Also thank you for giving us a week off before we take it out on the dawgs!'
  15. Harbaugh was gone as soon as he won the title. A guy like that already had his next move, just had to figure out the specifics. This is awesome news as Justin can now do what Dan was never able to, get the ring. I would say within the next 3 years Chargers are going to win the Big Bowl. We win because we get Bair, and that is a game changer. Truly elite speed changes the game like it did back in Chips days. Lanning is bringing in speed on both sides of the ball and that is a dream come true for me. This is a great day for Oregon sports, thank you Chargers!
  16. And the dawgs could care less, they needed their best shot at winning. They have to know he is gone as soon the next best seat is open and somebody calls. The whole dawg name for the program is a misnomer. It should the the Washington cats. Their coaches, and players are about as faithful as a cat. Whoever has the best meal and a warm fire is where their home is. I wouldn't want to be any part of that program!
  17. Kansas City because Lanning likes Andy Reid, and success by Reid can teach Lanning to be a better coach. We learn from those we respect, and Lanning respects Reid. Any other reason doesn't matter to me, not interested in these two teams, just being honest.
  18. I think the guy makes a great point, make your destination a place they don't want to leave. The dawgs haven't just had guys leave, they made guys quit coaching. Oregon has had guys leave for their dream destination. Jedd Fisch went to school at Florida, he is gone as soon as that job is open. Worst case scenario he is fired because he doesn't meet the standards. Best case scenario he leaves like most coaches do at Mountlake. The other aspect with Fisch is he has a bigger history in the NFL. He has two draws, a better college job, and the NFL. I hope they have to fire him, but more than likely this guy is gone as the soon as the grass is greener at multiple destinations. Fisch is going to want to leave sooner, rather than later. Montlake isn't a destination Fisch ever envisioned himself at, other than now banking some big checks until the next great job. The dawg fanbase better realize Fisch is there for one reason........ and that isn't because their destination is a place no none wants to leave.
  19. I look forward to Chip Kelly's protege coming to Eugene October 12th. Ryan Day has all the toys he needs to succeed, and a seat that is hotter than anyones in football. Alumni don't spend money like that without expectations. As Spiderman said, with great power comes great responsibility, and I don't see Day as up to the standard needed for the responsibility of all that talent. My green glasses like where we are at, and have no envy of Day and the way tosu plays. I like the Lanning plan, and Day is just a deadman walking.
  20. He helped put the O back into Oregon, for that I will always be grateful! The greatest what if, when he stood next to Lanning in the Washington game and wanted to go back in. I know, deep down, he wouldn't have let Oregon lose that game. Bo wanted to win, and could have won that game. Bo gave it his all, and made himself and Oregon better. A valiant outcome, to better oneself and those around you through talent and willpower, well done!
  21. I have always loved listening to people say how easy it would be if something was different. My favorite line when I hear this kind of talk is to say is if I was 2" taller and my coach hadn't had an attitude I could have been somebody and just smile, shake my head in agreement. I actually completely agree nothing is easy, but some people make it look easy. A good buddy who is extremely successful would be lost if he didn't have a list in his pocket everyday. He seems like he is all put together and just extremely productive, almost lucky. He has figured out how to beat just about everybody at the game he plays. Oregon is 2" too short and we never have bought the best coach. Oregon isn't the best academic school, and we don't tout an education at Oregon is going to solve all your problems, but no schools education will. We have never gone after, or gotten the best coach to run our programs. We go after a loser with talent, or an assistant who seems to have it. We make it look easy because we understand the work needed, and support the process. We just need to keep agreeing with the pundits, and other programs who complain about how easy Oregon has it. Just shake our heads, smile and agree Oregon has it made. Also DeBoer will have it easy now, right! The only thing easy for DeBoer will be cashing the checks he has coming from a program who will again learn what it takes to win it all, and it isn't jut buying the best coach out there willing to sign for too much money.
  22. Pretty sure I would have been illiterate if it hadn't been for SI. Maybe not quite that bad, but it had a huge impact on my life. The article, and articles on the Ironman changed the trajectory of my life, and still to this day create curiosity and drive to a life better lived.
  23. I will counter with, every position player needs to improve, or they will be replaced. There will be no sitting still, or maintaining one's situation. Just look at the receiver group, we have a 5* coming in to compete with another 5*. We have more talent at this position than ever before, yet we brought in more to compete. I don't look at it as being replaced, as much as run over by competition if they don't upgrade their skills and enhance their knowledge. Also players need to work on execution of their duties, not just statistics. Players can be productive and not be starters. We need back-ups ready to step in and there be no drop off.
