Ruh-Roh! Buckeyes Take ANOTHER Hit on Offensive Line...
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Center is one of the most important position on the team. It is definitely the least appreciated position as compared to the importance. Sad for the individual, but can't say I have any of that emotion for their program. On top of that it would certainly do my heart well to see multiple massive mistakes by the nuts this weekend at the center position. -
I reserve the right to complain about anything for any reason, or no reason at all. This is especially true when passion and admitted biases are involved ;)!

A Little Birdie Updated Me About Oregon's Injuries....
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Appreciate the update on Caldwell too, as that didn't look good. Love to see the week off, and everybody happy and healthy after the dawg pounding too! All hands on deck as the season begins to get serious! -
My take, the SEC isn't really all that good. USC beat LSU and LSU beat Ole Miss, which many say is the best in the SEC. If the spoiled children can beat the best of the SEC, through an easy connect the dots, then I am not too impressed with the SEC! I mean imagine if we lost to Michigan State and now were being touted as the best in the conference, just wouldn't happen, only in the SEC! Bring them on, we will play whoever the schedule, pundits, committee members assign us!

Great ponder point, but the big question is which conference gets a program ready for the long haul of the playoffs? The SEC use to be the conference to get ready, for the one, maybe two big games, to win it all. Now with three, maybe four big games to win it all the SEC death march may be a detriment to a programs chances. The BIG provides plenty of travel, and some competitive games, but you don't see great teams losing two games. Maybe the playoffs are just what we need to neutralize the SEC advantage? I tend to think Lanning would do well against the SEC teams. He would probably lose a few more over the years, but I don't want anything to do with what the SEC has, or does. Iron sharpens iron, but maybe too much and you break the best....

Before Lanning's time at Oregon is over the pundits will be comparing other coaches to Lanning. For now we will have to endure these hollow heads talking about Lanning being like Saban, right up there with Smart, headed to the NFL, or any other hot position. Fortunately Lanning is focused on his plan and making sure our Ducks are ready for what lays ahead. Nothing to see here, move along!

Oregon Ducks Football: Just Win.
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't think Dan Lanning would have it any other way, but I do think coaching D1 football is stressful. Anyone else notice the grey starting to creep on to the temple areas, and into his beard. The guy is 38, giving it his all, and you can see him age in front of our eyes. So who is the most improved, who the best in crunch time, the most important, all of those accolades should go to the guy turning grey before our eyes. Nobody cares more, and he is carrying these players, coaches along on his plan and preparation to win it all. -
That was what pissed me off about Blackledge as he went on and on about how one call effected the outcome of the game. That guy went way up on my least favorite loudmouth list. The refs made plenty of bad calls, keep the pie hole shut about one effecting the outcome! Midwest guy and midwest bias live.

Great quote, 'they don't know, they don't understand' pretty much sums it up. The problem is if we lose in the championship game, we will be crucified. On the road, in potentially an opponents home state, and the committee will weight a late season loss heavier than the rest of our wins. Not an easy job, but like the officiating we see every Saturday, it would be nice to see a little more out of these people.

Not Pretty but Still Perfect: No. 1 Ducks Rally Late
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great catch, but it if he is going to do over 200 in the dawg game, he better get working out! I wonder if there is a betting line on the total pushups Puddles will do on the 30th? -
Not Pretty but Still Perfect: No. 1 Ducks Rally Late
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Wait a minute, Puddles only did 16 pushups last night. No nap, the guy better keep working out or he will never be ready for the game on the 30th. -
Is Dan Lanning Channeling a “Don James” on Washington?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great ponder point, and Utah seems like another program Oregon pays attention to with recruiting. KW has the same knack as Brooks and Bellotti, finding hidden gems others don't notice. It is always nice when Oregon returns to its roots and pulls in an under appreciated gem. The method of watching what other do isn't a bad way. I do enjoy stealing players the dawgs covet. I especially like seeing 3* players develop. I get more out that than the too often 5* hope becoming a letdown. -
Dan Lanning is Playing the Long Game
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It is interesting to see Lanning so unconcerned about developing his back-up qb's with game experience. I am sure he has a plan, and that doesn't seem to involve in game experience. I imagine he can tell who is going to be ready. Seems like he thinks Novosad is the one who will be ready, but even that is hard to tell. Next season we won't have a proven leader, and that leadership development seems to be passive at this point. Maybe he already knows the back-ups aren't ready to lead and will be hitting the portal? In Lanning I trust, but this is one area I ponder as I watch games unfold and DG stays on the field. I doubt he is on the field to help his Heisman opportunity. Lanning doesn't seem to care about those goals, but maybe that is part of the equation, not too bad for recruiting? The whole qb management, development is just another mystery we will have to wait to see unfold. I will agree Lanning is focused on the ultimate prize, for that I am grateful, GO DUCKS! -
Dan has integrity, and a clear vision. I enjoy following Lanning and what he does. I think Lanning is having a blast learning and trying out his ideas at Oregon. When he stops learning and can't make his ideas work, then he may look elsewhere. For now that just isn't happening. There is also the fact he wants to have a stable family situation. I doubt there is any NFL job which would enhance his current situation. I don't find these articles even slightly interesting.

Will Prime be the Coach of "America's Team" Next Season?
Haywarduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
No doubt and the cowboys will start tanking even more to get Shedeur drafted. This is because we all know Prime won't coach anyone other than his gifted son. I might add Shedeur might demand anyone who drafts him hire Prime as his coach. We then would have the definition of a ....... -
Could Lincoln Riley Soon Be Fired?
Haywarduck replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I hear the Georgia Southern coach has turned that program around and is a hot commodity. Maybe they should hire that guy? Jeff Monkey, undefeated Army coach came from that program. SC will probably just hire some professor on campus. -
Why....WHY Would Lanning Close Practices THIS Week?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
In Lanning I trust! -
McKay, Madden, Robinson and even Seifert were part of a pretty amazing group of coaches, at that time, who came out of Oregon. Makes on wonder if we are seeing another group of coaches our younger Duck fans will ponder in the coming decades. Fortunately the truly great coach is our head coach this time!

Oregon’s Offense Adopts Hockey’s Three Periods of Play
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
While I am a water enthusiast, hockey and ice aren't in my skillset, nor real expertise. I actually knew little about hockey until I married into a hockey crazed family. I was then amazed that they substitute all the time. Players seldom stay on the ice for long at all. They have different lines that are constantly switching in an out. Players of hockey can't maintain the intensity needed to play extended minutes, who knew. Maybe our Ducks, the starting group, can't come out with the intensity needed in the 3rd quarter? If the starting group can only muster 2 points, on average, in the 3rd quarter, let's put in the second string skill players. This would be the perfect time for this group to have the full playbook. Our backup qb, potentially next years starter, would be only tasked to increase our scoring by 50%. For those mathematically challenged, that is only 3 points. We could then have the starters come in and finish off the game in the 4th quarter. I think this could be another brilliant move by Lanning. Increase scoring, give the backups some real experience and what could go wrong, we only average 2 points like the starters? -
No. 1 Ducks Silence Maryland to Stay Perfect
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Right, with moves like this one, he was running like a WR, crazy! With the top DE recruit on the sideline, do you think Lanning made this call? Lanning is so far ahead of most people it isn't even fair. -
No. 1 Ducks Silence Maryland to Stay Perfect
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I would add as good as our RB's are looking, and they are pounding out yards, Jordan Burch looked absolutely amazing running the ball. If we brought back the pistol formation, Burch, with a running start, would make some players get out of the way! At almost 300lbs and with wheels stopping him won't be at the point of contact. It is also seems like the new Oregon defense isn't so much bend but don't break, it's bend and wait for a turnover opportunity. I would love to see that turnover margin last night continue going forward. As far as the officials, Oregon is just going with the old so what now what philosophy. The officials, along with the review process is pretty pathetic, I must admit. -
Classic Oregon: Uniform Reveal for Maryland Game!
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If I remember correctly, I have tried to forget, our last Natty attempt was in grey with white, no green or yellow. I personally don't want to see another uniform without some green or yellow. Our last game was with some very nice uniforms, green numbers. I had no problem with that. I don't want to see an absence of green or yellow. I also don't ever want to see blue, or orange worn by Oregon ever again! Is that too much to ask? Go Ducks! -
Me thinks Lanning is constantly testing players. There is development, testing and then action. You either make the next step or someone is brought in and steps over you. It is also interesting to hear about and see little tidbits of information on this process. One dot I am, maybe incorrectly, connecting is the story about Lanning asking Dante Moore to play corn hole with him. Moore said he wasn't very good and missed an opportunity to show just how competitive he was. Since that story came out we haven't seen much of Moore. Maybe Novosad was the guy who said he would step in and be his teammate? Life is one big test, each step of the way is an opportunity. I think this is especially true with how Lanning runs things.
