  1. Lanning understands that the QB position will be a key for the Duck’s success, so it makes sense for him to bring a known winner like Nix into the flock. I have mixed feelings about Nix though, as I suffered through his clutch play for Auburn in a winning drive in the 2019 season opener against the Ducks in his freshman debut. While he’s no Vernon Adams, Nix is a gamer that doesn’t wilt under pressure. He will be a great competitor and leader in the QB room.
  2. As my basketball coaching experience was limited to elementary school kids and adult recreational leagues, I am not comfortable criticizing Altman’s offensive play calling. That said, I would not expect Richardson to get off a critical game ending shot unless he had proved himself during his four years. Did I miss all his clutch shots?
  3. Altman’s game requires a certain type of player that has exceptional reach, footwork and toughness on D, and a quick first step or lights out three point shooting on O. Are there any NBA caliber players on this roster of 4* and 5* star players?
  4. No sun and barely clad girls? Or Chip didn’t deliver on promises?
  5. They didn’t help any, but Duck turnovers and questionable shot selection shot down our Ducks.
  6. I have mixed feelings, but can’t fault Coda for choosing first year UCLA coach Chip over transitioning-from-slick Mario. Those were confusing times.
  7. In theory, or with a cupcake opponent for a first game, this strategy could work. With Georgia as the season opener, the best performing QB at the end of Fall camp has to start.
  8. Since you mentioned it, can you please share body language analysis of Mario’s signals?
  9. I suspect the leverage that a highly recruited player will have on accommodations for family members will be strong. Schools may benefit from a booster controlled non-profit foundation to supplement scholarships and living expenses.
  10. Not sure of the accuracy, but here is a site that tracks roster. See the scholarship summary
  11. All 85 scholarships are awarded. A player would have to be dropped or portal out to open a spot. There are medical retirement options as well.
  12. I have not followed Connelly but Bartoo has been interesting over the years. Bartoo grades coaches on a star system and seems very high on Miami for 2022. A playoff winner or national champion has had a top 25 offense and defense in the prior year for a couple decades. Ducks need to step up in both categories in 2022 for a shot at the playoffs in 2023. Also, three of the four playoff teams were top 10 in fewest offensive plays. Alabama is consistently among the lowest offensive snaps per game.
  13. Thanks for sharing the SP+ rankings Jon. I wonder what Dave Bartoo will say?
  14. I expect USC to be great going forward, and I want them to succeed except when they play the Ducks. I don’t expect OSU to be great going forward, but I want them to succeed except when they play the Ducks. I don’t expect UW to be great going forward, and I want them to lose every game forever. Among rivals, that makes UW the most hated, OSU the most loved, and USC the most feared. I wish Utah mattered more.
  15. No question that QB is the great unknown for the 2022 season. That said, the talent level in the room is possibly the best the Ducks have had since 2008. The other questions are at running back and defensive back. Other position groups seem talented and experienced at the college level. Player development and schemes will make or break the Ducks in 2022.
  16. My guess is that two Ducks will be drafted, two will sign as undrafted free agents, and two will look outside the NFL to continue football careers. There is a high likelihood of more NFL talent on the Duck roster in 2022 and 2023 than ever before. Gotta give it to the prior staff for bringing in high caliber players.
  17. I will join the under for a beer and a brat, and I will spot Mike the Spring game as a win.
  18. Injuries happen, but there are things that can be done to prevent them. Filling the sleeves and fully taxing muscles is not ideal to prevent muscle, ligament, and tendon tears. Pliable and resilient muscles tend to respond better to fast starts and stops. While strength is important, quickness, balance, and agility are equally important in close quarter contact sports. Tom Brady played at an elite level longer than any other quarterback of his generation by focusing on pliability and nutrition to prevent muscle tearing, fatigue and inflammation. Bruce Lee may have been the best example of a successful close contact fighter using the same principles.
  19. USC is loading up on proven college football players from the transfer portal, including one of Oregon’s all time leading rushers, and the top rated QB who already has a win over the Ducks. USC will be closely watched by the national media, which elevates the PAC. USC will likely battle Utah and UCLA to represent the South in the league championship game. The attention will elevate all three programs for future recruiting. USC coaching will be competitive and possibly superior to staffs at Oregon and Utah. USC football attendance will likely explode based on the prospect of a national title run in the next two years. USC will get top celebrity NIL involvement to buy the best players. Go Ducks!
  20. I am told that I am wrong often enough by family that it doesn’t bother me when people here say the same. But I appreciate how nicely it is said here compared to home! Sad that others that enjoy discussing our Ducks feel they’d rather be right than nice.
