There is no such thing as a sure thing. That is why there will always be a competition. Bo was massively better than Ty when he came, but there was still a competition into fall practices. (Just about none of the fans here thought Bo was massively better than TT, but Dan Lanning knew.)

That is my point. While fans may have thought there was a competition when Bo came in... there wasn't. The coaches already knew Bo was their man and as close to a sure upgrade as could be expected.

I feel this must again be the case if the Ducks take another transfer this year. It must be a clear upgrade. Ty has had two years more experience than when Bo came. If he is not the man. For his own sake he should be guided to the portal. Novosad will be just as good of a back up as Ty was two years ago.

I trust DL and staff will make the right decision.

So, what if, after receiving "promises" the guy has a hard time picking up the complicated offense, or has personal problems that affect his on field performance, or the guy already in the stable makes such great strides he really does pass up the portal guy?

Will the NIL collective want the head coach to sit the better guy just because the transfer guy is getting paid more money?

Who plays/doesn't play is the coaches decision before every game and during every game. It's on the coach to win games. Winning games is all the collectives care about.

Exactly, and that's why its a problem! If, your going to bring in a high dollar transfer. It NEEDS to be a sure thing.

Teams are fighting over good QBs. Those fights consist of collectives spending big money and promises being made to the QB. If not, that QB isn't coming here. The coach has to have input into that decision.

My opinion is DL and staff must decide now if they think TT will have the stuff to start next year or not. If not, they have to get someone significantly better than him. Not someone at his level to compete with.

DL should go after the best QB he can find. Whoever that is should have a good shot at being QB1, but no promises should be made before results are seen in the fall practice.

Problem is... This is nearly impossible. A good transfer QB is not going to come without hefty NIL and promises. Also, NIL collectives want assurances of that hefty money is being spent on a starting QB not a backup.

  4. David, I to must be a Superfan. I went to bed Friday night with a knot in my stomach. I hoped I would wake up feeling better. I did not. I couldn't watch any games on Saturday and found myself moping around all weekend.

I had a business meeting Sunday evening with someone I knew was a Duck fan. He seemed fine. I asked his thoughts on the game. He cavalierly stated it sucks they lost. But, it wasn't going to affect his life.

I walked away from that meeting feeling jealous of his maturity... Then went back to moping.

Playoff selection is shaping up to be a mess where only the fans of 4 teams are actually happy with the outcome.

Frankly, even if we'd somehow managed to sneak out a win yesterday despite our horrid start I don't think it would've been enough to get in, which would have just made us the ultimate spoiler of PAC12 participation in the playoffs. Of course we will never know.

The only outcome that would make me truly happy is to see the SEC left out. I'd get a laugh out of that.

I was thinking the same thing. A one loss Pac-12 would not have been selected. That was a worry I had earlier in the week.

I'm honestly glad I'm not on that committee. There are going to be some irate fans.

. They didn't show the play on the screen where Penix fumbled and the refs changed the call. They (the refs) made a big mistake. Similar to Dyer was down

While I appreciate your enthusiasm and love for the Ducks. They did show the replay... and unfortunately,  that was the correct call. His arm, and ball, were coming forward before the strip happened. I really wish that wasn't the case.

Troy Calhoun- current coach at Air Force and has been an asst for a couple of NFL teams

Troy is an Oregonian having grown up in Roseburg. His high school coach Thurman Bell was a Beaver and definitely engraved Beaver traits in Troy.

I would be pleasantly surprised if Troy decided to move to Corvallis. He seems content in Colorado.

  8. I was very disappointed when Tyler entered the transfer portal and have been cheering him on ever since.

That being said... I do not feel the need for Oregon to use a scholarship on him. There just isn't anything that makes me think he is vastly better than our current options.

I'll continue to root for Tyler and will be grateful he honored his commitment to Oregon even when Willie didn't. But, feel it would be a step back for the current Oregon program.

Eyes forward. Keep improving 1% each day. Coach Lanning is just getting started.

  9. Thanks for the well thought out article Ryan. I feel you nailed everything down fairly well.

The one thing I hope does not happen is a close, well fought game, between UM and tOSU for the B1G championship. I feel a one score win by UM could cause trouble for the Ducks.

One thing is for sure, none of this matters if our Ducks don't win out. GO DUCKS!
