  1. We have wonderful articulate players, unlike, let us say, the inarticulate players in the SEC. They are interesting to listen to. I just heard our terrific QB talk again. Enough already, while it's interesting it seems to me that all this adulation of the players who have done nothing positive yet is counterproductive and only produces head swelling. I watched Cornelius Ajani's inteview last week. While he may prove to be deserving of high praise at some point, he stunk up the place on Saturday. Did his interview have anything to do with his play? Was the talent too tough across from him? Maybe our offensive line so thin as to cause the problem? Or could it be the hype machine was too much? I think it was # 1 and # 4? The coaches can take care of #1 and #4. We need to quit clamoring for those two. I don't believe you ever saw Nick Saban's players or coaches blathering to the public like we see. He was about concentration and winning.

  2. Amen to the line play criticism. Amen to our team being flat. Amen to the lack of our qb running or scrambling. Requiem for our fourth down trick plays inside our own forty. Who the hell calls those plays? I'm hoping(gosh I hate that word), I'm thinking Idaho's players, coaches, and attitudes were a lot better than we were thinking.
  3. I'll take a supporting cast like NFL champions and pro bowlers TJ Ward, Patrick Chung, Jarius Byrd, And Walter Thurmond with a backup like Cliff Harris anytime. I hope we are able to speak with the same reverence in the future as these guys when this current crop of defensive backs is retired from the NFL.
  4. Steve Prefontaine made a valiant effort but he was fouled up by the terrible hostage taking and murder by the Palestinian group, Black September. Mac Wilkins, Sig Ohlman, and Harry Jerome were great Olympic champian Ducks.
  5. No doubt, but let us not forget Mack Robinson, Jackie Robinson's brother. Mack was an Oregon Duck and was a close second to the great Jesse Owens in the 100 in those Olympic Games.
  6. For those of you who have an interest and have COX cable I was able to get the BIG network along with the Sports package including ESPN U, The SEC, the ACC and the NFL package for $5 per month for Two. years

  7. Definitely the odds will improve dramatically in the near future, but the possibility exists that the future is now !
  8. Sorry I got sidetracked. Oregon has a slim chance of garnering this years number one recruiting class. All they have to do is win the quadfecta(my new word). All they have to do is pick up five stars McNutt and Terry along with a couple of four star defensive or offensive linemen. Cmon Danno.
  9. A&M had Jumbo, Jimbo, Jambalaya as head coach. He was a pompous a-- who rode the wave of an outstanding coach in Bobby Bowden who was summarily shown the door in favor of Fisher. Fisher was the recipient of what Bowden developed both in terms of player acquisition and national prominence. He was totally outclassed and out coached in the SEC. All the money in the world was not going to help that whiner cover up his ineptness. It's going to be a long time for any A&M coach to right that ship even though they got all that black gold to buy players. Look how long it took us to recover from the loss of Chip Kelly who was replaced by my friend the mediocre Mark Helfrich who also rode the wave of an outstanding coach. God bless Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks.
  10. Somebody will kill the Golden Goose. It all stinks. I understand the motivation, but that don't make it right.
  11. Be careful what you wish for or overlook. The Civil War has been one of the great rivalries in college football. I think it should continue. I don't care that they got all that money. What are the going to do with it, build dams? Let us not overlook Boise State. They are much like the Beavers. They beat us the last 3 times we played. Alas, I repeat myself.
  12. Couldn't agree more. It doesn't look like we are done either for 2025. Let us not forget Gatlin Bair for 2026. He should be through with his mission and be ready to enroll by then. Hope our newest ducks don't scare him off. He will be the fastest guy on the team and that is saying something. He was a 5 star. The last guy that had that Olympic speed out of high school( 10.1 100 meters) was drafted by the Rams. I believe it was Latin Berry. I remember sitting right square in the middle in the middle of Forty Niner honorees Y. A. Tittle , Bob Saint Clair and others in Kesar Stadium when I cheered loudly for the Rams and predicted he would run the opening kickoff back for the second half. He did. The Rams s won beating Joe Montana et al. I was escorted out at the end of the game by the police for protection. Keep it going Adams/Lanning
  13. As president of the Orange County Duck Club in the mid nineties I helped put together a terrific golf outing fundraiser. One of our Duck members who played for the ducks invited his friend, Dan Fouts, who helped make the tournament a financial and Ducky event. Dan chipped right in and got some other former players to play. He was very gracious unlike another former Oregon star of that era. In Dan's playing days nobody stood in the pocket always under huge duress like he did.
  14. A smorgasbord of some good stuff thrown in about Mike Leach, Nick Aliotti, and Bill Walton. These guys were giants in my mind in their own way. I wish there was a way to hold those responsible to account for the demise of the Pac-12, but alas there is none. As so often is the case, they get to run and hide, academics the Pac 12 presidents. They are followed by Larry Scott, the nincompoop. Not far behind this group are the universities themselves led by Stanford who was allowed to nix Texas and Oklahoma from joining the Pac, followed by USC who couldn't wait to run away from the UofO who had gutted their recruiting dominance in their backyard and their performance on the field.(how'd that work out for you Trojans?) Right behind them were the feckless UCLA Bruins who mismanaged their affairs despite the likes of Jackie Robinson and Coach Wooden, to near bankruptcy. Their only choice was to follow big brother, throw in the towel and join the big. It all proves that business is not a democracy where you let the weakest links control your own destiny.
  15. This is a big ask. No doubt we are loaded. Our coaching staff is terrific. Are they both ready? Only time will tell. Outside of the obvious, there are three potential trap games. Oregon State hates us and we are playing in corn valley. They are not talented enough but they will be jazzed. We should win by 20. Wisconsin will be coming with a chip on their shoulder. They have a lot to prove after last season. They have a good coach and are plenty deep. I was at Wisconsin's Randall Stadium "Camp Randall" in I believe 2001 when the beat a good Oregon team. It was a huge disappointment, a long flight back. Good players- good coach, Oregon 31- Wisconsin 17 The Boise State game scares me. I was at that infamous loss in the game in Boise when the punch was thrown right in front of me. These guys appear to be a top flight group at QB and RB but can"t have the horsepower to stay with the Ducks. I don't think? We have had 3 better teams lose to these guys in the recent past. Coach them up Father Dan. Oregon 24 Boise State 20.
  16. Painful, I held my breath on each pitch. One bad one followed another. It was a gut punch for all concerned, but glad to be there and know we'll be back. I feel the worst for the players in the field. They did not deserve that. I hope nobody abandons ship. I won't. Big job for Waz. He's up to it. Be glad you are not watching the football teams of the seventies. You expected despair, only a few guys like Fouts and Martin kept your head in the game. Go DUCKS !
  17. I follow, and I agree on recruiting. My problem is not apathy. It's the first thing I look for after results, like the girls splendid start in the NCAA track championships. Go Ducks ! Right now seems like a doldrum period. It's 3,4,5 weeks since a commit ? More than that, it all has become very frustrating to me. When I go to a site I'm told to go to another site then go sign in, then give my birthdate and then I hit a wrong key ? or something else and POOF the screen is gone. Even after paying for On3, I seem to be getting less than before. How about some straight forward info. OBD is good but it all seems like not enough information yet too much information. I'm sure getting old. I know. Quit complaining Chuck
  18. (I had a tech issue and could not add to the thread, so here is my take) A lot to agree about regarding coaching history, but these modern coaches-- when they arrived, the Oregon brand and Phil Knight were already impacted by the presence of Ducks long before them. For my money, I'm old but not as old as Whitty, The man who started it all in the modern era was as earlier put, Len Casanova Norm Van Brocklin and George Shaw came before him creating some Oregon buzz, but it was Len Casanova's coaching tree that spread the word "OREGON" throughout the football world. Not only did the injury riddled Liberty Bowl team of 1962 have 5 or 6 starting NFLers on the team, but also 2 great Pro hall of famers, Mel Renfro and Dave Wilcox. That was a Casanova team, but it was his coaches John McKay, George Seifert (49ers), Gunther Cunningham (Chiefs), John Robinson (Rams), and Norv Turner (Redskins) who made people pay attention to that little school in the northwest. All were NFL head coaches. Four were at the same time.

  19. Both the men and women, particularly the women appear to be on target for a major upgrade this spring. I have a problem though. I can't tell how good they really are because of all the acronyms involved in following the Duck site ie pb (personal best, lifetime best, top ten Oregon top ten, NCAA leading, this years best. What did I miss? Tell me Where we stand in the Pac12, BIG, I hate that acronym, NCAA . etcetera, etcetera Olympic qualifying
  20. Is that a question? I'm watching game day at 6 AM. It's always an upper yo watch the DUCKS.
  21. Defensive line stay put unless a generational player available. Running backs and safeties or corners are a somewhat different story. Everything changes if we have exodus of key players in the upcoming portal. Dan Lanning has been among the best in keeping the players they are recruiting and developing. I would not want to see the LOVE and camaraderie going around that room disturbed. In any case Dan Lanning knows best.
  22. Will our 5 star wide receiver from Texas A&M be 6th, 7th, or maybe 8th best wide receiver?
  23. Can we go to Oregon Sports and read anything but bad news about our Duck girls ? No, Graves got basically a walk on with Sabrina and a talented group surrounded her. How many wonderful players came after those star studded years only to disappear into the night like a wisp that really did not exist ? The answer is many, too many. How is it possible to turn a class of multiple 5 star athletes into a proving ground for other schools and coaches to rape and pillage ? Easy you say. It must be because it continues with one star after another being attracted to the light only to find out that the light is the brand and the intensity of that light which was the Sabrina group is fading rapidly. How long must we endure the tarnishing of the brand ? It's time to cut out the cancer before it consumes all that it touches. The real question might be "Does the cancer come from the top?" He's ruined track and field. Now it's WBB. What happens when our should be hall of famer MBB coach is no longer or he errs with Dan Lanning ? $6,000,000 is some real money. $1,500,000 is like a get out of jail card in this case. Cut the cord now ! GO DUCKS !
  24. Caitlan Clark is a scoring machine. She recently broke Pete Maravich's all time basketball scoring record. What a feat. She's played in 130 plus games in her career. Pistol Pete played on only 83 games in his college career at LSU. One can only imagine what his totals would have been if they had had a 3 point play when Maravich was in college. There is probably some overlay of his potential 3 point shots. Anyone have it? No one has 26 triple doubles in men's or women's college but Sabrina. The closest I believe was 12. No wbb player in history has more than 2000 points (she had more than 2500), 1000 rebounds, and 1000 assists. She had more than 500 steals as well. There are lots of reasons to love this girl. She is the best wbb player of all time , maybe men as well coming from a Duck perspective.
  25. While our host and I are huge baseball fans, nothing except Duck football, excites me more than Track and Field. It is individual excellence personified. Wow, have we had champions and championships. Thirty two national championships and counting, dozens of Pac championships, I hope we don't have to wait too long for more. We lost a terrific coach to the fuskies and dismissed a proven winner over social issues. Since then we have fallen on almost mediocrity. This is not good treatment for a wonderful track athlete and our great benefactor, Uncle Phil. Anybody know what the issues are? My mind and body were almost in a frenzy as I watched Dyrol Burleson et al cross the finish line in a one two three sweep in the mile at Los Angelas on the way to a swamping of perennial champions, USC. That group along with Olympic throwers and runners were on their way to the first of many NCAA championships. I sat in the stands as I watched our javelin guys headed by Les Tipton throw that spear so it disappeared above the stadium roof only to come down in another one two three finish to the roar of the crowd clinching the national championship. Another one two three finish in the high hurdles led by the great hurdler, Jerry Tarr followed by fellow future NFL football players Mike Gaechter and Mel Renfro perhaps the greatest athlete in the history of Oregon was the pinnacle of excitement. Who can ever forget the gutty controversial Steve Prefontaine who won again and again in every meet at Hayword and elsewhere to the roars of the crowds. Steve was from my sometimes hometown. He actually agreed to sell some of my products after he sold me radio advertising on one of his summer jobs. Where oh where have you gone you runners and jumpers and throwers? Come back soon!
