  1. You make a lot of good common sense Mike. Thanks for the food for thought. Too bad that many obstacles never listen to common sense. Administrators, TV executives, donors, and fans always choose common sense in their major decision making process. Not really! Logic and symmetry falls victim to self interest and money. Anyway, thanks for the mental stimulation this morning. I will just take it day by day and one season at a time enjoying the path of Our Beloved Ducks football team.
  2. Common theme with Coach Lanning and staff- Speed and football intelligence.
  3. Mr. Whitty your article gives us a lot to think about. The landscape for college sports is not done changing. We're now dealing with NIL and the Transfer Portal. Those have been major changes. Your excellent research and writing brings attention to more consequences that will have major impact. I don't have an opinion yet. But I'm sure our OBD Forum will help me. Thanks for giving us your thoughts and experience with this coming discussion.
  4. Jackson does not equal Mahomes. #15 to #87 is a win!
  5. I find it hard to ever root for a team wearing purple!
  6. Thanks Jon Joseph for the great article today! Well researched and written. I think the hard schedule is karma for USC & UCLA. They sure deserve it. I appreciate and look forward to your future writing.
  7. Thanks for the article today, Don Marsh. I agree with you. Coach Lanning answered everyone quickly and convincingly. He made a video to show why staying at Oregon was definitely the best thing to do. I'm reminded of a book written by Frosty Westering, Make The Big Time Where You're At. Frosty was a coaching legend at Pacific Lutheran University. I believe Coach Lanning is doing this. That's his message to recruits. They are listening.
  8. I spent almost all my school age years (elementary - Jr. High - HS - B.S. at Oregon) in Eugene. I agree with you. Eugene is a special place. My career took me to a small town south of Portland. Because my family is still close that's why I have stayed. But Eugene still calls. Thanks, Mike, for sharing your story!
  9. Thanks David, excellent article today. Your summary is the best part. "In the end it doesn’t really matter how you compare Lanning to those who came before him because it isn’t the same game. What matters is how Lanning stacks up against the rest of the college football world right now." In my opinion, Coach Lanning is killing it nationally! Right now. Yesterday's appearance on ESPN, especially at halftime, is proof positive. The college football world has changed; is changing. The Oregon Ducks couldn't have a better coach leading them in this new world.
  10. Alex, there's so many to choose from. Team depth is loaded. That makes it hard to pick one. Thanks for a good ponder discussion. For Offense it is either Gary Bryant at wide receiver or Kenyon Sandiq at Tight End. Speed and good hands draw my attention. Defense it's Teitum Tuioti and Ashton Porter on the defensive line. Effort and quickness stand out for me. These two are heat seeking missiles. Thanks for writing today's article Alex!
  11. Great research and writing! Thanks Mr. Joseph for providing today's reading. Lots of entertaining data and information about the upcoming 2024 season.
  12. Sad to hear that Coach read died. Good memories of this good man! Thanks for sharing Annie.
  13. Thanks Darren, I totally agree with your point. Thanks for writing and sharing it today. Schadenfreude is my favorite word of 2023! Two of my three daughters attended OSU. My favorite cheered for the Ducks. The Civil War has been loud and spirited whenever we get together. I cheer for the Beavers when they don't play the Ducks. Likewise, the same goes for all the Pac-12. Except I do experience Schadenfreude when the Trojans lose. The best point of your article was, "...the greater war is the war against East Coast (especially the south) bias." Whatever helps us win that war helps Oregon in the future. Thanks for all of your excellent writing Darren!
  14. Bo Nix is special and deserves all the accolades Alex used in his article today. I enjoyed every snap he took as an Oregon Duck. Bo and the Oregon fans are fortunate to have Coach Lanning surround him with 4 and 5 star players. The team this year is competitive with any of the four teams in the College Championship Playoffs. However, I think we're comparing apple to oranges to peaches. I remember a skinny kid in my handball P.E. class who had an outstanding career both at Oregon and then later at San Diego, Dan Fouts! I don't think he was ever surrounded by a complete team of blue chip players at Oregon. I could also argue for Lamichael James as he is my favorite running back. He was an outstanding Duck and good person. Oregon has had a ton of great football players at Oregon. So Bo Nix has done a superlative job of making Oregon a national team. I love everything he brought to the team. I celebrate and thank him for being the man he is and wish him the best in the future! GO BO!
  15. Fantastic job by Poncho! Played like an experienced senior. Kudos for Coach A'LIQUE TERRY for coaching an awesome offensive line this year! Amazing job by our young coach!
  16. I love the way Bucky sticks and explodes off the cut!
  17. Here's the video. Article did not load the video for me. If I was suiting up for the Ducks this would motivate me to get ready to answer the challenge....
  18. I agree with you Charles. The first quarter will tell us if the team arrived in Phoenix with the desire to dominate or are just taking it as a business trip. Before the Colorado trip many of us were concerned if Oregon would respond to this new Prime coached team. The Buffalos and Prime were getting all the love. Never fear my Duck buddies, Coach Lanning had the Ducks ready. I think Coach Lanning learned a valuable lesson after the championship game. I trust he will have our Ducks prepared. Game Day! Go Ducks!
  19. I always like having Pac-12 teams win their Bowl games. The left coast teams deserve respect. I don't like USC when we compete against them. However, the national reputation for the Pac-12 needs to be hammered. Especially this season when the conference had so many good teams.
  20. Don, thank you for your perspective on Our Beloved Ducks. Back in the 70's, if someone had said some day the Ducks will be National Champs, we would've asked, "What are you smoking?" Now we're looking at the possibility. Look at us now! Multiple Pac-10/Pac-12 championships. Two times in the Championship game and a Heisman winner. Back then a season record of 9-3 would've been cause for a parade down Willamette St., across the Ferry St. bridge to Autzen stadium. I agree with your appreciation of the OBD Forum. There's no place like it. Our safe haven to read and discuss about all things Oregon Ducks. Thank you Mr. FishDuck!
  21. After reading your analysis, Mr. Whitty, I have to agree. Thank you for writing this well presented explanation. The only fair thing in the future is to go to a 16 team bracket. I know next year will be a 12 team bracket. 12 is so much better than 4. However, there will possibly be just as much controversy about which teams get the top four spots and a first round bye. Include 4 more teams and make everyone play a first round game. "Just win" your games and ranking doesn't matter. No one has an advantage by resting the first round. I won't hold my breath. Will the NCAA do anything that makes sense!
  22. Thanks David for this article today and all the great articles you contribute to OBD Forum. I agree with you when you wrote, "Nix ran less this year most likely because the coaching staff looked at the quarterbacks behind him and knew the season was over if they had to start either Ty Thompson or Austin Novosad." QB Dillon Gabriel is an exciting addition to the Ducks. His dynamic upside also brings risk. Which in turn raises the importance of having a good backup. Getting the #2 QB meaningful game reps with the starters is important. Maybe something like Coach Locklyn does with the running backs. (Some, maybe not as much.) Bring in a Dante Moore for a scripted series utilizing his skill set. Then adding more as he learns Coach Stein 's offense. So much to ponder! Thanks again David for giving so much to OBD Forum.
  23. Thompson was given a chance every day in practice. Thompson was not recruited by Lanning. Thompson is a good person. Thompson made improvements. I trust in Coach Lanning and Coach Stein.
  24. Haywarduck said, "Really focusing in on what each O-lineman did is also telling about how good that group could execute." What's great about this line is they can and will get better! Watch the video in 0.5 speed. #74 Steven Jones RG and #55 Marcus Harper RT fake a double team and proceed to the left. Jones becomes part of the convoy and Harper turns back to take care of the pursuit. Coach Terry is doing a fine job with the offensive line. This Oregon staff is blending well and will get better.
