The Oregon Ducks Offense: Touch Pass Sweep
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Excellent analysis again Coach Eric! Thanks for reviewing game film and giving us fans your insight to this year's offense. It helps me to change the setting on the video playback speed to 0.5 and watch in slow motion. I'm sure that the coaches have taught TE Ferguson and LT Conerly how to improve their foot path on blocking this play. I love that the players are buying into the mindset of going to the doctor to improve. Coach Lanning asking for 1% improvement every day is helping this team be such an explosive offense. -
I'm not too worried about the future. Look at all the freshmen, RS Frosh, sophmores who are playing now and having an impact. Too many for me to list or try to spell. In addition we have the transfer portal which the coaching staff does a good job of evaluating. Then we also see the incoming committments from the HS recruiting. Coach Dan Lanning and staff will continue to create a complete elite team of Ducks!

What Brings You Back To Your Oregon Days?

This dates me but Chicago is my memory prompt. "Color My World" played at our wedding. The second band is Iron Butterfly's "Gadda Da Vida" and watching my future wife perform a dance to the drum solo in her dance class. Great memories! -
Watch for the Y-Pop RPO in the Oregon Ducks Offense

Thanks for your article today, and thanks for finding video that shows your analysis so clearly! Saving plays for later in the season when future opponents think they have your tendencies they can take advantage of is great planning. Might we see this play when we go to Utah Saturday. Hopefully this play and several more up Coach Stein's sleeve! Thanks again Coach Eric! -
Thanks Ryan for writing today's article. The Ducks were struggling at times. But in my humble opinion when our program is highly ranked and favored we're going to get an opponent's best game! No matter how bad they performed the prior week. The Cougar QB is an outstanding quarterback! He's a perfect fit for the air raid system - quick read, quick release, and very mobile. He has good receivers! Both of our Coordinators, Offense and Defense, are making in game adjustments. The whole staff is doing a good job of in game coaching! Every athletic contest is going to be intense. To win you must survive the storm and exert your will. I'm proud of our Ducks, players and coaches for playing all sixty minutes!

The Oregon Ducks Offense: The Texas Cross
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Coach Eric, thank you for your analysis. Spot on! Execution by the QB of his progression as you said should be first - the bunch see what happens there. Perfect play call - Holden was wide open! Maybe one of the tendencies Bo developed is to look at his favorite receiver first. I'm sure he's realized his mistake and will make him an even better QB for the rest of the season. -
What Happened to Oregon’s Jumbo Formation?
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You make a good point David! Inquiring minds will wonder. I think that is part of the learning process our wonderful young coaches are going through. If the defense can't stop you keep doing it until they do. And when they do, hit them with a constraint play off of it. Balance is good, but why stop what works! -

Famous FishDuck Keys to Beating the Huskies
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Man oh man, Charles, you are head and shoulders above all those other pundits who write the standard click bait articles! You get down to the nitty-gritty of where football is won! The battles between Jackson Powers-Johnson and Tuli Letuligasenoa will be epic. I'm sure the coaches have come up with a trap or scheme to add confusion and doubt for Tuli to deal with. I might add that the Running Backs with the Oregon offensive line are better than Washington's. Go Bucky! Go Jordan! Likewise, I agree that the Senior tag-team of Taki Taimani and Popo Aumavae will destroy the freshman and harass Penix. Size and experience give Oregon a big advantage. I totally agree with you Charles "The new abilities of Oregon defensive backs to provide tight coverage unlike anything seen in 2022, and give little yards-after-the-catch is, in my view, the biggest difference from last year, and the major element in this contest." This was so obvious from the first play in the Spring game and confirmed through the first 5 games of 2023. This Defense is not the 2022 defense! Duck fans, we have a classic game with two very good teams! The game is 60 minutes long. Focus on these battles that Charles has pointed out. In the end Oregon's depth will win a few more than Washington. Go Ducks! -
Oregon Ducks Football: 3 Keys to Beating the Huskies
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Good points Alex. I agree with all of them. Thanks for writing today's article. Defense wins championships! However, I need to add that Bo Nix has to be BOdacious. Leave no doubt he is the best! Bo will deliver his career best game. The whole Duck team needs to dominate. This year, all that is possible! -
Lanning’s New SEC Strategy is WORKING
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As I was writing my previous post, A protest song from January 1967 kept playing in my head. Some of you old timers may remember this song. With apologies to Buffalo Springfield's song "For What It's Worth", I've changed a few words. There's something happening here But what it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a PLAN over there Telling me I got to beware I think it's time we stop DUCK FANS, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? Go Dan Lanning! Go Ducks! -
Lanning’s New SEC Strategy is WORKING
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Mr. FishDuck said, "Easy to say, but hard to actually pull off,..." This SEC strategy of depth is very hard to accomplish. Kudos to Coach Lanning and his staff. All coaches talk about their players supporting each other, and how their room celebrates each other. Yet we're seeing game proof that the Ducks are for real. The "Family" culture is real also. The Duck brotherhood is obvious to recruits when they visit. I believe these intangible concepts are more important than all the glitter of facilities, uniforms, and money. Something special is happening at Oregon. Go Ducks! Kudos to Mr. FishDuck for his expert observations and writing! -

Dan Lanning’s TEN Over-the-Top Surprises for Duck Fans
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thank you Mr. FishDuck! Wow! All ten of these observations are self evident. Dan Lanning is the driving force creating something special at Oregon. "No. 3: He takes care of business." I am comforted with no more "playing down" to the level of competition so prevalent during the previous coaching staff. Put them away early which leads to my favorite change in Oregon football. Hard work = Playing time. When a player is as good as the starter and doesn't get the PT this can lead to discontent and/or the Transfer Portal. More players receiving PT leads to No. 5 more Depth. "No. 7: Good gosh he plays a ton of guys..." College football is serious. The players spend many hours working very hard to participate. Team meetings, position group meetings, weight room, studying the playbook on their own time, and then attending classes and studying for a degree. It can be very discouraging when only the starters and a few subs get in the game. The reward of playing time for more players creates a better culture of family. It's so obvious that Dan Lanning has developed this culture of TEAM where Together Everyone Achieves More! Love Our Ducks!- 22 replies

Omigosh! The 14Josh Formation is Now a Stein-Staple?
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Charles! This is a superb analysis and the video gives us a beautiful view of what you described! In the Delaware Wing T we ran as our base offense, we called this play "Down". Play side down block, down block, pull. We never had this many tight ends and big bodies though. The advantage of the Delaware Wing T was smaller athletes could use angles to make up for size. The constraint plays off this are awesome. When the blocking technique improves - Wow! Go Ducks! -
Should Oregon Play to its Passing Attack Strengths?
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for a very informative article, Charles! Great new question for Duck fans to discuss! Charles said, "Yet I think he is off to a very hot start for a newbie OC; I saw a number of new play series out bunch formations for running plays that I love, along with constraint plays he is revealing in the passing game." I loved the tantalizing Jet Sweep with Bo Nix under center. Instead of a slot receiver running it there was TE Kenyon Sandiq running the play, a true freshman. A TE not looking to kick out the defensive end for a counter, but a big guy with speed who can reach the corner. Coach Stein, a truly innovative OC, we're getting to see his new version of Duck Offense. So many new things for defenses to worry about. Coach Will Stein offense is emerging as a potent scoring offense. -
I wasn't impressed. Too much talk from the other guy. Too much non-game talk for me. It seemed that Helfrich never had enough time to give a concise explanation of what happened. Or for him to give insight about what we just saw.
