  1. As I was writing my previous post, A protest song from January 1967 kept playing in my head. Some of you old timers may remember this song. With apologies to Buffalo Springfield's song "For What It's Worth", I've changed a few words. There's something happening here But what it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a PLAN over there Telling me I got to beware I think it's time we stop DUCK FANS, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? Go Dan Lanning! Go Ducks!
  2. Mr. FishDuck said, "Easy to say, but hard to actually pull off,..." This SEC strategy of depth is very hard to accomplish. Kudos to Coach Lanning and his staff. All coaches talk about their players supporting each other, and how their room celebrates each other. Yet we're seeing game proof that the Ducks are for real. The "Family" culture is real also. The Duck brotherhood is obvious to recruits when they visit. I believe these intangible concepts are more important than all the glitter of facilities, uniforms, and money. Something special is happening at Oregon. Go Ducks! Kudos to Mr. FishDuck for his expert observations and writing!
  3. It's awesome to see the coaching staff make in-game adjustments!
  4. Thank you Eric! This is another great play. I appreciate you giving this insight into Coach Will Stein's offense.
  5. Thank you Ryan! Excellent observations. We're seeing the defense begin to look like the defense of our dreams. Thank you Dan Lanning, Tosh Lupoi, and all of the staff of coaches! Create Havoc.
  6. Thank you Mr. FishDuck! Wow! All ten of these observations are self evident. Dan Lanning is the driving force creating something special at Oregon. "No. 3: He takes care of business." I am comforted with no more "playing down" to the level of competition so prevalent during the previous coaching staff. Put them away early which leads to my favorite change in Oregon football. Hard work = Playing time. When a player is as good as the starter and doesn't get the PT this can lead to discontent and/or the Transfer Portal. More players receiving PT leads to No. 5 more Depth. "No. 7: Good gosh he plays a ton of guys..." College football is serious. The players spend many hours working very hard to participate. Team meetings, position group meetings, weight room, studying the playbook on their own time, and then attending classes and studying for a degree. It can be very discouraging when only the starters and a few subs get in the game. The reward of playing time for more players creates a better culture of family. It's so obvious that Dan Lanning has developed this culture of TEAM where Together Everyone Achieves More! Love Our Ducks!
  7. Thank you Drake for posting the video. Go Ducks!
  8. Thanks Charles! This is a superb analysis and the video gives us a beautiful view of what you described! In the Delaware Wing T we ran as our base offense, we called this play "Down". Play side down block, down block, pull. We never had this many tight ends and big bodies though. The advantage of the Delaware Wing T was smaller athletes could use angles to make up for size. The constraint plays off this are awesome. When the blocking technique improves - Wow! Go Ducks!
  9. Thanks for a very informative article, Charles! Great new question for Duck fans to discuss! Charles said, "Yet I think he is off to a very hot start for a newbie OC; I saw a number of new play series out bunch formations for running plays that I love, along with constraint plays he is revealing in the passing game." I loved the tantalizing Jet Sweep with Bo Nix under center. Instead of a slot receiver running it there was TE Kenyon Sandiq running the play, a true freshman. A TE not looking to kick out the defensive end for a counter, but a big guy with speed who can reach the corner. Coach Stein, a truly innovative OC, we're getting to see his new version of Duck Offense. So many new things for defenses to worry about. Coach Will Stein offense is emerging as a potent scoring offense.
  10. I wasn't impressed. Too much talk from the other guy. Too much non-game talk for me. It seemed that Helfrich never had enough time to give a concise explanation of what happened. Or for him to give insight about what we just saw.
  11. Sometimes no matter how good you are or how well you practice you have a game where things go bad. To be able to still win the game means your team and season is special! Go Ducks!
  12. Secondary has a lot of talent. They made mistakes. I agree that some of that was caused by late calls causing panic. Coaches need to improve this area. Khyree Jackson made the pass interference call by hustling too fast after his mistake and running into the receiver. The penalty really hurt the team. However, he demonstrated great coverage skills in getting the first of 3 interceptions by the Ducks. With tight man coverage he adjusted to the throw by Tyler and came up with the pick. Lots of learning growth needed by both the coaches and players. I like the reaction Coach Lanning gave in his post game interview!
  13. Great to see another part of Coach Stein's offense explained. Which you do a good job of showing. Do you think Stein could designate another receiver and add another option? For instance, have the H back release to the flat instead of blocking. I love the RPO, especially with a QB like Bo! Thanks Eric for writing for OBDF!
  14. Excellent article David! The talent possessed by Irving makes him a great back. Vision, speed, balance, using his blockers, and toughness - he has the total package. I do trust the management of the running back position to Coach Locklyn. We know what a great back Verdell was during the Mari years. But he did encounter a lot of injuries. In my opinion sharing the load may have let him finish the season more often. The 66 yard run you described came in the 13th game of the season. I posit that was possible because he also had fresh legs at the end of the season to utilize all his talents. The Ducks are blessed to have a deep and talented running back room. I trust in Coach Locklyn! Thank you David for highlighting my favorite position!
  15. Thanks Jordan for the positive look at the Ducks home opener! I too was impressed with Coach Stein and his play calling. I'm glad that any questions I might have had during the off season were answered. No worries about Coach Dillingham leaving. The defense learned they had to adjust a vanilla defensive plan to account for the PSU very mobile QB. They did, and shut them down the rest of the day. I fully support not giving Texas Tech any idea what kind of havoc they will see next week. Thanks again, Jordan, I always like reading your take on Our Beloved Ducks!
  16. That was a fun BOdacious game! Bo and Tez great young men. Love Nic Aliotti! Go Ducks!
  17. Will Stein QB whisperer! Perfect type of plays for Ty Thompson to use his talent.
  18. I'm so glad this is the last year of Pac-12 referees!!!
  19. I realize you can't show Texas Tech all your packages on defense when you have superior talent.
  20. I agree with you, Charles, this to me is the improvement from last year that we need: "To me, the additions in the portal by Dan Lanning have been astounding, and it has been hard to believe he could attract this many in such a short time. The portal transfers transformed the Oregon offense in 2022, and we will see a similar jump in performance from our defense in 2023." Nothing wrong with being a homer. Especially when we see all the additions to the defense. I always look through my Duck Fan glasses. If you don't go into every game expecting to win you're defeating yourself. 12-0 !!! Thanks for giving us something to ponder on! Let the games begin! Go Ducks!
  21. Try this one - much better!
  22. Fantastic! Thanks Pennsylvania Duck. Team getting ready for football...
  23. I can agree that this isn't as good as previous videos. My enjoyment comes from the actual game of football during the season. I would watch the Ducks whether they played Georgia or Portland State. My reason for posting was football is coming. I can't wait until off season is over! One more week. "Welcome to Autzen Stadium..." is music to my ears!
  24. One week fans! Oregon Football 2023-2024 is coming! Enjoy - Go Ducks!
  25. Thanks Coach Eric for bringing these analysis articles to help us understand the Will Stein offense. It takes a lot of time and research. Your efforts are appreciated. I know many Duck fans will be leary of seeing QB Bo run between the tackles. But I like the 3 options. I can see this as a good play for QB Thompson and other back ups to use. Easy to count defenders and then execute. I hope he chooses plays for Thompson that are not only safe but give him a chance to utilize his athletic talent. I can see him attacking the defense with this draw.
