Colorado Game-Score Prediction Contest!
Smith72 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oregon 34 - 17 2 TO 4 sacks 284 yrs passing -
This is a good example of why I appreciate the integrity and honesty of Mario Cristobal. I can understand how players want to play for him and follow him as their leader!

Reading Spaces: Get Your Post Read, and Help Others Too!

This is good advice Charles. The large block of continuous words is tiring to read and sometimes a struggle for me to read. Hitting the return key after a few sentences will really help! Something I appreciate very much! -
How Joe Moorhead Beat the Bruins’ Blitz
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Joshua for the excellent analysis! The UCLA game was a perfect example of playing "Smarter" instead of "Tougher". Hats off to Joe Moorhead for his play calling! Kudos to Tim DeRuyter for making adjustments to the defense! The coaches and players came out of halftime with their hair on fire. Adjustments had been made and coached. How long has it been since an Oregon team exploded in the third quarter! Here's hoping for more games (all 4 quarters) like we saw in the 2nd and 3rd of the UCLA game! Go Ducks! -

Technology Issue, but You Can Still Post!

Thanks! I was questioning my sanity! -
Thanks Darren for the good article! Great point on Moorhead calling plays. "Call me crazy, but it would seem reading formations in order to make more informed play-calling would be more of an advantage..." Almost all OC's I've seen call plays from above. There are less distractions up there than the sidelines. Communication from his spotters is quicker! The next play is chosen and communicated clearly and faster. I can agree with those who prefer to be on the sideline - so much energy is felt from the players. However, I believe calm consistent smart play calling is achieved up in the box.

Let's List the POSITIVES from the Game!
Smith72 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It was great to research the highlights of the game against UCLA. I'm impressed with the improved offensive play calling! Nice to have Coach Moorhead in the box! It's great to see #2 Williams have a great game. What a weapon! Travis Dye another notable performance. He's always a gamer - 100%! Hats off for the outstanding linemen. Versatile filling in for the injuries. Good Blocking and pass protection all 4 quarters! The defense is outstanding. The "next man up" personified. Constant pressure by the front 7. The Defensive Backs are turning into ball hawks! So much to be encouraged by all the improved play of the team! Go Ducks! -
On the last touchdown run by AB the right guard Dawson Jaramillo pulls left and kicks out the defensive end, the tight end DJ Johnson (H back) pulls left turns up into the hole and delivers a block on the Safety freeing AB for the touchdown! UCLA linebackers took themselves out of the play going with the initial flow. This is a smart play we discussed October 13 - the Counter! Great timing on calling this play Joe Moorhead!

UCLA GameDay Thread: Watch for Chip Kelly’s Best Play
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thank you for sharing the outside zone read tutorial. So simple to block and so smart to use. The analysis was easy to follow. Teaching linemen to "take their man where he wants to go" creates those huge running lanes. I love watching the backs read the linemen's blocks and having the vision to see the hole. They were taught so well by Coach Gary Campbell. -
Great tag line for my favorite running back on this year's team! "Always say Dye!"

It’s Okay to Be Disappointed With Mario Cristobal
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for the article Joshua! You make a well written argument for expressing the disappointment many fans have. You give proper credit for the good things MC is doing for the Duck program. In addition no one can question Mario's good work ethic, honesty, and connection to the players. "Disappointment" is a good word to describe my feelings this season. The young talent is there. Play it! The 6th year senior quarterback without a doubt does not have the decision making ability or the vision to play quarterback. Bench him! I'm disappointed that Oregon coaches do not coach up the young quarterbacks and get them ready to play. I'm disappointed that Oregon coaches are so stubborn and settle for a "game manager" instead of a leader! I thought one tenet of the culture was to instill competition. When you can't perform the next guy takes your place! So far I guess QB is an exception! -
I too think that the pressure provided by the return of KT will help the defense step up. Nothing like a harried QB to cause incompletions and interceptions. With linebackers helping to stop the run, crossing patterns have hurt the Ducks' deep zone coverage. I think Kelly will plan for this. When WSU gets its act together they are very dangerous in their passing attack against our deep zone. Here's hoping the defense makes a dominate statement!

Oregon’s Offensive Spark Comes From the RB
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I love the game Travis Dye had against California! He always has been the explosive back we just saw. His effort against Stanford was superb. Travis is gifted with great quickness and good vision! Because he is quick to slide step to a developing hole, he never goes down on first contact. He is tough and has gotten stronger since his first year. He is now a leader of this team! Go Dye! Go Ducks! -
Under center would add the QB sneak for 4th and short situations. Also add potential play action run or pass.

Still Processing Too? I do not Know WHAT to Make of it...
Smith72 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Question: last play of the game - 2 seconds until over. Why the shotgun snap? AB had several bobbled snaps earlier in the game. If he fumbles and Cal recovers they either tie with PAT kick (then it's overtime) or win with 2 point PAT. Can our quarterback take a snap under center? Take a knee with a secure snap. It's called victory formation! -
Cal GameDay Thread: A 2021 Crossroads Game?

I think coaches should coach and not go on recruiting trip during a bye week! Coaching the players you have maybe we wouldn't be so undisciplined and unorganized! -

Thibodeaux: Goals Away from Football Field More Important

Quarterback Quandary: What Would Former Oregon Coaches Do?
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think Belotti would go with someone who could throw accurately and able to complete the deep throw. His passing offense needed a throwing QB. I fondly remember all the deep throws to Samie Parker. Beating the Huskies in Seattle and the Fiesta Bowl 2 of my favorites! -
I'm sure all coordinators take input from position coaches. Which should happen. Does anyone think that Chip Kelly led a committee? I think not. The "blur" was and always will be Chip Kelly.
-
We know that Justin Herbert has a new offensive coordinator who has a system and a head coach who has given both of them the green light. I doubt it is an offense by committee.
