  1. Given the year that Nix is having with his completion percentage, O's won/loss record and his career starts, etc. etc, it would be very hard to see Bo not win the Heisman if Oregon beats OSU and then UW in the rematch. As I understand it, the Heisman voting occurs after the Conference Championship game.

The QB of a 12-1 team, probably headed for the Playoffs (if they win the conference crown) with all his personal accomplishments, how could they not select him as the winner?  His accomplishments at the very least would be the equal of Marcus Mariota's. In reality, they'd be even better, imo.

I don't see how Johnathan Smith can stay in Corvallis.  I doubt Beavs can afford him long term if they wiff on the next realignment.

Should Beavs and cougs win in court and usurp a buttload of cash, they buy a few years grace to try and get into the B12.

If they fail Beavus will never be relevant in major college football. Recruiting will drop and they will lose  coaches.  Mic will be buying first round at that point 😉

I don't understand any of this court case stuff, or what OSU & WSU think they're going to accomplish (other than win themselves a lot of $) but when it comes to millions of $ anything can and usually does happen.  In that case all bets are off.

Except, of course, our gentleman's bet since that's revenue neutral  That bet still stands.  We may need a neutral 'judge' to decide the winner.

  3. I sure did yesterday.  Of course, scoring 42 straight points on 6 straight possessions and seeing it all on a 100" screen with 7-speaker surround sound system (in my friend's Man Cave) may have had a bit to do with it!

  4. Well, really.  All the nonsense aside, it's what it really is.  In-state rivals, just 45 minutes apart. One to the NW of the other.  Come-on pc crowd, we're not talking canon and musket fire although come Friday night it might seem like it when the Autzen crowd gets warmed up.

When it was 3rd down and 11 yds to go to start the game was anyone else just a wee bit worried, concerned?

The great thing is I am pretty sure no one on the field was worried. The Ducks just executed their masterful gameplan, and put the hurt on the devils.

I was... cause it was too early to know how well the Ducks really were prepared to play and would, yet.

I wa thinking to myself Kenny D. would have a pretty good idea what Oregon may do to try & pick up 11+ yards.  After all, he was the architect of this offense < 1 year ago.  Stein had other ideas perhaps and as Kenny himself said in his great post-game interview: Oregon is just that good.

ASU might have known what was coming but they sure didn't have the horsepower to stop any of it. Amazing.

  6. Maybe, just to help sort this Heisman voting thingy thing out, pointy-headed statisticians should start counting "Meaningful Minutes Played" when comparing stats-to-stats with all these Heisman hopefuls.

I mean, I haven't tried to compute and compare the number of minutes Jayden Daniels has played in all his games this year with Bo Nix's minutes but I'd be willing to wager a gentleman's bet Nix has quite a significantly fewer number of minutes.  How many more meaningful touches of the ball has Daniels and Penix both had?

The one category I can think of where that's worked in Nix's favor would be Int's & T.O.'s.  Otherwise, sitting him like yesterday, while a very good thing for the team and backup QB's, definitely cuts into his TD and yardage stats, not to mention highlight footage.

If this were Baseball, I almost guarantee the stats would be gathered since they gather stats on everything!

  7. Actually, as comical as this all seems I'm glad OSU & WSU have won their case and maybe (?) saved the "Pac Conference".  They'll get some good teams to join in and slowly maybe they'll rebuild it up to a decent conference again.  Nothing like it is now, of course, but maybe one the likes of the Mountain West or MAC (by sniping their best teams).

And who amongst us knows?  Maybe this B1G thing falls bust with all the travel logistics and nightmares it's going to create.  It would be nice to know Oregon has a fall-back option just in case.  Because I really can't see the country going to just 4 Super Conferences with West Coast teams playing East Coast teams and NE teams playing SW teams, and SE teams playing ..... you get the drift.

    Per Riley:

Riley reiterated his disappointment in the way the season transpired but also said the team was "worn down emotionally" from its past nine games -- all of which were won or lost by fewer than 20 points.

"The reality is, you play better and you coach better, then you're not in that many [close games]," Riley said. "It sucks right now. It hurts right now, but I've never been more motivated and had more of a fire in my belly than I do right now."

Two small things jump out to me:

    1) Riley's almost making an excuse for the disappointing season (20 point losses aren't "close" ones), and

    2) Riley's sending as strong a signal as he can to the University & Alumni he's gonna "do better next year".

The problem for him is SC and their alumni have never been the most patient bunch.

  9. I'm sure the committee, if they're honest, will take into consideration that Bo has run up the stats even when sitting out a lot of minutes in games when Oregon was well ahead.  Like yesterday.  He could have had 8 TD's if he'd had to stay in the game.

Unlike Daniels, he didn't need to be in all their game to the end for them to seal the win (or loss).  Daniels and Penix both have probably played a game or two's worth of minutes more than Bo.  I don't recall Williams sitting many minutes out either.  Just saying.

    I love this too.

But....having UCLA and UA beat USC and UU takes a toll on OBD's SOS.

That and AZ's defeat of Utah.

That loss by the Utes took a lot of luster off Oregon's win in Salt Lake City - at least as far as the SOS and "signature" wins goes.  Oregon has (realistically) these last two games to make up for that and then - only after they take care of the Beavers.  Need to beat the Beavers by more than just two points.  It would be a shame for the best team in the country to get left out of the Playoffs!

  11. At this point only a loss to either OSU or another to UW can probably intervene in Bo winning the award.  At least it looks that way.

Nothing's ever a sealed deal with the committee making the choice - unless there's a player in contention from Oklahoma, Ohio St or Notre Dame.  At least it seems that way sometimes.

Right... quite often sports fans use hyperbolic statements as part of the fan experience. Out of it has been born the art of trash talk. Other descriptors of this type of rhetoric is sh!+ talking, talking smack, and throwing shade.

Its actually great fun as one can get very creative with these hyperbolic statements. It has always been a part of the sports experience.

Exactly.  Like when I use the phrase "one for the Ages."  Except this one just might be.

At this point no one knows if there'll be another Civil War game, tho I expect the two schools will want to try and keep the tradition alive. I sure hope so!

First off I want everyone to get off the Taggart was the greatest recruiter, he was a salesman, plain and simple.

I didn't really think anyone here thought Taggert was a great recruiter.  Every new coach has a few recruits he's been recruiting that he brings in with him but I don't remember any "great" recruiting classes he ever assembled.  He wasn't here long enough to fully unpack his suitcases.

But I get your point and it was fun to see the Candy clip.  The guy was a comic genius in his own way.  Thanks for the laugh.
