Ducks Wire Player of the Game: WR Tez Johnson For the first time in 5 months, there was football in Autzen Stadium on Saturday. The Oregon Ducks roster — bolstered with new recruits and transfers — was split into two teams: green and yellow for Saturday’s spring game. While there was great play from Troy Franklin and Kris Hutson, WR Tez Johnson was the star of Saturday’s game. Johnson finished the game with 3 catches 78 yards and a touchdown. Tez’s touchdown was a 63-yard play, with 59 of those yards coming after the catch. Johnson caught Ty Thompson’s pass in the middle of the field and then bounced outside making multiple defenders miss as he took it to the house for the Yellow team’s first score. After the game, players had a lot to say about Tez’s performance, specifically his staggering speed out on the field. “He’s not the biggest, but he is the fastest,” said Duck’s linebacker Jefferey Bassa. Green Team edges Yellow in low-scoring Oregon spring game The score and manner with which Saturday's spring was played more closely matched what most would expect from a program led by a defensive coach. The scoreboard didn't move in the first quarter and the game featured just five total touchdowns (two coming in the final minute of regulation) with the Green Team pulling out a 23-20 win — capped by a Bo Nix touchdown run with a minute left in regulation. The game was played before an announced attendance of 45,000 fans, who were treated to clear skies and a warm afternoon sun. None of Oregon's quarterbacks produced at the highest of levels, as the newly constructed defense made life difficult on pass and run downs. Nix finished the day completing 19-of-40 passes for 193 with one passing and one rushing score. Ty Thompson was missed his first six passes and Yellow failed to pick up a first down until their final second quarter drive. Thompson picked up his play in the second though, finishing with 274 yards on 16-of-34 passing and two touchdowns without a turnover. Freshman Austin Novosad received far less work, going 2-of-8 for 9 yards. Green Team edges Yellow in low-scoring Oregon spring game 247SPORTS.COM The Green Team held off Yellow Team 23-14 to win what was a lower scoring spring game than most anticipated.
