Aaron Flowers, Four-Star Texas Safety, Commits to Oregon Ducks Flowers has been one of Chris Hampton's top targets in the 2024 class since the former Tulane defensive coordinator joined Dan Lanning's coaching staff in January. "It looks really great," he said of his relationships with the Oregon coaching staff. "They're heavy hitters in my recruiting process. They always get me on Facetime with Coach Hampton. Coach Lanning Facetimes me a lot compared to other coaches. He's a really chill guy. He talks to my dad a lot too." He's the first defensive back to commit to Oregon in 2024. He's the third highest-rated commit in Dan Lanning's haul behind wide receivers Jordan Anderson and Tyseer Denmark. Oregon continues to flourish in the state of Texas after signing six recruits from the Lone Star State in 2023, highlighted by edge rusher Ashton Porter (Cypress, TX) safety Tyler Turner (San Antonio, TX) and wide receiver Ashton Cozart (Flower Mound, TX) to name a few. Read more about Aaron Flowers' commitment in this article from Ducks Digest.

Where Oregon's 2024 class ranks nationally after latest commitment Early in the year, the Oregon Ducks had a top-10 class nationally after landing a flurry of four-star players, including a pair of top-100 wide receivers in Tyseer Denmark and Jordan Anderson, as well as a top-150 player in OT Fox Crader. Over the last couple of months, that top-10 national ranking started to slip a little bit as the Ducks got passed by other teams picking up commitments. While Oregon was experiencing positive momentum as far as making recruiting cutdowns and scheduling visits, the commitments were infrequent. That changed on Friday afternoon, with 4-star safety Aaron Flowers announcing his commitment to the Ducks. Flowers is rated by 247Sports as the No. 109 player in the 2024 class, and the No. 9 safety. He is the sixth player to join the Ducks’ 2024 class, all of whom are rated as 4-stars. So where did his addition bump Oregon to in the national recruiting rankings? Let’s take a look: Oregon Recruiting: Where Ducks rank nationally after latest commitment DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM With the addition of 4-star Aaron Flowers, the Ducks took a big jump in the 2024 recruiting rankings.

Bronny James discusses potential of playing with Oregon PG Jackson Shelstad There are two high school players whose names hold incredible weight in Oregon Ducks basketball circles at the moment. One of them is a signee of the Ducks’ 2023 class; the other is a prospective signee who seemingly has the entire college basketball news cycle in the palm of his hand. Jackson Shelstad and Bronny James are hot topics of conversation this week at the Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, Oregon. While Shelstad, the 4-star Oregon signee is making waves with his play on the court, it is James who stole the show off of it, giving his first media availability in seemingly forever. A lot of ground was covered in that interview... Oregon Recruiting: Bronny James talks Jackson Shelstad, Oregon Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM “He’s a cool dude, we talk about Oregon and stuff. Marcus Harper splitting time between positions, enthused by opportunity at center Junior offensive lineman Marcus Harper has his heart set on earning a starting job for a second straight season, however, right now it's not clear exactly which spot that will be. After working exclusively at left guard last season (where he played 710 snaps — the sixth most an Oregon offensive player), Harper has opened up the month of April working at center as well as offensive guard. “I’ve been bouncing around equally [between center and guard]," Harper told reporters after Thursday's practice. “Center is a lot harder than people think. I played center a few times in past years in practice. It’s a different feel. You're the second quarterback of the offense, and the O-Line kind of runs through you." What's been Jordan Burch's early impact at Oregon? The Oregon Defense needs to be better at getting after the quarterback next season. After posting just 18 sacks in 13 games last year, the worst number at Oregon since the 1986 season, the Ducks spent this past offseason retooling the roster. One of those additions was one of the top transfer prospects in South Carolina, edge defender Jordan Burch. "You talk about changing a defense; it starts with having guys with great size up front that have the ability to play and play at a high level. Jordan's done that," said head coach Dan Lanning. What's been Jordan Burch's early impact at Oregon? 247SPORTS.COM Oregon head coach Dan Lanning and Defensive Coordinator Tosh Lupoi give their early impressions on Jordan Burch. -

Pac-12 Softball Weekly Rundown - April 5, 2023 Eight of the league's nine teams are receiving votes in the latest USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll, including six the in the top 25. UCLA, which spent a week at No. 1 earlier this season, is No. 3 and followed by No. 7 Stanford, No. 10 Washington, No. 18 Oregon, No. 20 Arizona and No. 25 Arizona State. With 43 points, Utah leads a group of four teams receiving votes, while California is third among that group with 16 points. With six of its nine in the NFCA Top 25, the Pac-12 has 66.7 percent of its teams ranked, one of only two leagues over 60 percent (SEC - 69.2). The Pac-12 is one of two leagues with three teams in the top 10 (Big 12). This is a weekly recap of softball action that the conference puts out. I just ran across this today and will try to remember to post it each week. It is interesting to see how our Ducks stack up against a super strong Pac-12. Oregon signee Jackson Shelstad is turning heads at Nike Hoops Summit He may technically be the lowest-rated player in the Oregon Ducks’ 2023 signing class, but it’s hard to find any player who will come to Eugene shouldering higher expectations than West Linn senior Jackson Shelstad. The 4-star point guard has been a tour de force over the past several months, grabbing headlines throughout the high school basketball season and inching his way up the national recruiting rankings, where he now sits at No. 32 nationally. This past week at the Nike Hoops’ Summit in Portland, Oregon, Shelstad is once again making waves and dropping the jaws of many in attendance. Some are even questioning his national ranking, assured that he belongs in the conversation among the best players in the 2023 class. With a star-studded group of players in Portland this weekend that includes Omaha Biliew (No. 11 player), Isaiah Collier (No. 1 player), Bronny James (No. 33 player), Jared McCain (No. 15 player), and Ja’Kobe Walter (No. 21 player), the fact that Shelstad is making the most noise is impressive. Here’s some of the biggest buzz that we’ve seen on social media. Oregon a School Standing out for OL Eugene Brooks Brooks has stacked 16 reported scholarship offers as he heads into his senior season, but he's hearing the most from three schools. "USC, Oregon and Texas," Brooks said of who's recruiting him hardest. "It's been great," he said about Oregon's communication. "The O-line coach left so they got a new O-line. I'm building a relationship with him. It's a great relationship right now." Brooks doesn't have a date locked in for an Oregon visit but is planning to get out to Eugene. One of the coaches he's spoken with most at Oregon is new offensive line coach A'lique Terry. "Just building that relationship up with him," he said. "Getting the flow right. Having great talks." The Ducks have recruited Sierra Canyon before and have someone on the inside that's been in Brooks' ear. "One of our former players from Sierra Canyon Mike Woot (Michael Wooten), he just went out there. It's a great program. He tells me it's great for him and O-line, it's just O-line territory. That's just how it is, it's great." Read more about Eugene Brooks in this article from Ducks Digest.

WATCH Marcus Harper II: Postgame Interview Marcus Harper II preparing for bigger role on reloading Oregon Ducks offensive line Oregon’s offensive line is in a similar position to where it was three years ago, having to replace four starters from a heralded group that was a pillar of the offense the year before. Alex Forsyth, T.J. Bass, Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, Ryan Walk and Steven Jones had the unenviable task of replacing Jake Hanson, Shane Lemieux, Calvin Throckmorton, Brady Aiello and Dallas Warmack and later Penei Sewell. Yet the Ducks had the best offensive line in the Pac-12, allowed the fewest sacks in the country last season and paved the way for a top 20 offense in nearly every statistic. Who was going to take over at center after Hanson was the biggest question facing the group entering the 2020 offseason, which Forsyth more than solidified over the past three years. Now the question resurfaces and it’ll be up to Marcus Harper II and Jackson Powers-Johnson to compete to be the next starting center for the Ducks, make the protection calls on the field and snap the ball to Bo Nix. “Center is a lot harder than people think,” said Harper, who was the center with the first-team offense early during Thursday’s practice. Troy Franklin talks year two with Bo Nix, Ty Thompson growth, and Will Stein's offense There’s a nice mix of returning faces and new additions for the Oregon Ducks this season. While almost half of the roster has been turned over, and over 40 recruits or transfers are now on the team, some of the top performers from the 2022 season will be in Eugene again this year. Among them are QB Bo Nix, WR Troy Franklin, RB Bucky Irving, and TE Terrence Ferguson. We got our first chance to talk to Franklin, Oregon’s leading WR from last season, on Thursday afternoon following the Ducks’ fourth spring practice of the year. It gave us a chance to discuss what Franklin had been working to improve over the offseason, how his chemistry with Nix is growing, and what his new role in the Will Stein offense. It resulted in some great insights and quotes from the junior WR. Here are a few of the most notable things Franklin said. Oregon players continue to rave about OT Josh Conerly's development this spring Oregon Ducks offensive lineman Josh Conerly came into camp last season with much fanfare. He was one of the program’s highest recruits in history, and the highest-rated offensive lineman to ever sign with the Ducks. While most true freshmen end up riding the bench for a season, Conerly played some sparingly in 2022, often used in a jumbo, short-yardage package. Despite playing on the O-line, Conerly’s highlight of the year was actually a touchdown catch at Colorado vs. the Buffaloes. But Conerly wasn’t brought in to catch passes. He was recruited to protect the quarterback and open running lanes, following in the long line of successful left tackles at Oregon that includes Penei Sewell, Tyrell Crosby, and TJ Bass in recent history. According to his teammates, Conerly has worked hard in this off-season and is well on his way to reaching his high potential. Oregon Football: Josh Conerly continues to draw rave reviews DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Coaches and players haven’t been shy when asked about OT Josh Conerly. He appears to be making a leap this offseason. -

FOOTBALL PRACTICE REPORT: APRIL 6 Among the mantras UO defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi barked to his players throughout practice Thursday was "good to great." Thursday was Oregon's fourth practice of this spring, and the second in full pads. Lupoi was consistently reminding his players in practice to raise their level from "good to great," and the UO defense is looking to take that same step as a unit from year one under the current coaching staff last fall to year two this upcoming season. "At the end of the day, (it was) awesome to be part of a 10-win season and to have that senior class go out the way they did, with the victory at the end," Lupoi said of the 2022 season, which ended in a Holiday Bowl victory over North Carolina. "However, starting with me, we have tons of improvement and things that we can get better on, (that) we're really attacking."
