  1. More administrators should listen to what Brian Dutcher says about travel... San Diego State's Brian Dutcher: 'Going to be more realignment' With San Diego State playing in the school's first-ever Elite Eight NCAA tournament game on Sunday against Creighton, Aztecs coach Brian Dutcher said opportunity looms for the basketball program and the school's athletic department, with both USC and UCLA headed to the Big Ten next season. "Realignment is here," Dutcher said. "So everybody is just waiting for the next shoe to drop. Whether that's the Big Ten or the Pac-12 or the Big 12 or ACC. There's going to be more realignment." With UCLA and USC leaving the Pac-12 and soon to be playing a vast majority of their conference games thousands of miles away, San Diego State plans to entrench itself in Southern California as a sensible regional option. The Aztecs played their opening weekend of the NCAA tournament more than 2,000 miles away in Orlando, Florida, and Dutcher said that trip gave him a window into the travel challenges that the new Big Ten schools will be facing in basketball. 2. 5 guards the Oregon Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal One of the biggest changes in college basketball over the past few years has been the creation of the transfer portal, which effectively forces coaches to re-recruit their roster every offseason. For Dana Altman and the Ducks, it means the only guarantee for next year is the departure of Will Richardson, who exhausted his final year of eligibility while becoming Oregon’s all-time leader in games played. Jermaine Couisnard stated he plans to come back for next season, Tyrone Williams entered the transfer portal, but right now the Ducks are awaiting word on whether Keeshawn Barthelemy or Rivaldo Soares will be back or not. That makes pursuing guards via the portal a difficult exercise at the moment, but Altman and his staff are no doubt perusing the names available anyway, looking for any way to improve the roster after failing to make the NCAA Tournament again in 2023. Here is a look at five guards currently available in the portal who could fit in Eugene next season: Oregon Basketball: 5 guards Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM With Will Richardson gone, and the rest of Oregon’s roster still in flux, here are some potential guards to watch in the transfer portal.
  3. 5 big men the Oregon Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal The frontcourt for the 2023-24 Oregon Ducks is about as unsettled as it could possibly get. Nate Bittle plans to return after averaging 7.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18 minutes per game last year, but until either N’Faly Dante or Kel’el Ware announce their plans for next season this team will need to explore the transfer portal to make an addition to the frontcourt. Dante is coming off a career year and could parlay that into a professional career, either in the NBA or overseas if that doesn’t pan out, while Ware’s first season in Eugene went extremely poorly and it seems unlikely he’ll choose to return, either trying his hand at the NBA or entering the transfer portal. Assuming one (or both) of those players depart, the Ducks will turn to the transfer portal to find a post player who can compliment the trio of newcomers in KJ Evans, Mookie Cook, and Jackson Shelstad. The portal is far from set, with 1500 or so players expected to enter when all is said and done, but here is a first look at five big men the Ducks could bring to Eugene for next season: 5 big men the Oregon Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM The Oregon Ducks are awaiting decisions for both N’Faly Dante and Kel’el Ware, but the transfer portal has replacements if...
  4. Normally, I like to keep a baseball series under the same thread. However, this was a series with 4 games which made it too long for one thread. Also, because the Ducks scored so often, there were a lot more postings than usual. To make it easier for readers and myself to navigate, I am starting a new thread for the 4th game. If you need to refer back to the first three games of this series, simply click here.

Each team won on its home floor during the regular season while the Ducks ousted the Huskies from the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas, 52-50, in the opening round. 6. Brian Dutcher pitches Pac-12 to invite San Diego State to join conference Since USC and UCLA announced their decisions to leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten, San Diego State has been linked to the conference as it looks to regroup from the two high-profile departures. It sounds like the Aztecs’ head basketball coach would be on board with making the jump. Brian Dutcher made his case for the Pac-12 to invite San Diego State to the league during his Saturday media session ahead of the Elite Eight. He said he wouldn’t expect an invitation if USC and UCLA were still in the league because the Pac-12 already had the Los Angeles market. If the conference wants a replacement, Dutcher thinks SDSU would be a good fit both on and off the playing field. “My own personal belief is I always thought the Pac-12 would not ask us in with UCLA and USC because they would put us on equal footing, and we would be too great a competitor to let in,” Dutcher said. “Now that they’re gone and Southern California has a really good team sitting in San Diego, I would think we would be desirable for the Pac-12, the Big 12, a lot of conferences. “We’ve won a lot of games in football and basketball. Non-revenue sports have always been good. We do things the right way, we have a great university, and we have a competitive athletic program.” Brian Dutcher pitches Pac-12 to invite San Diego State to join conference - On3 WWW.ON3.COM San Diego State head basketball coach Brian Dutcher made his pitch for the Pac-12 to invite the Aztecs to the conference.
  7. EIGHT TOP-FIVE FINISHES, TWO WINS AT SDSU The Oregon track and field team totaled eight top-five finishes including two wins and a top-10 program effort Saturday at the 44th Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State. Freshman Aaliyah McCormick recorded the Ducks' first win of the afternoon, stopping the clock in 13.23 (-1.1 m/s) to take the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles. In addition to the victory, McCormick moved to sixth on the program's top-10 list despite the headwind. The San Diego native finished sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles (8.01) two weeks ago in Albuquerque. Jadyn Mays, fifth in the 60 and 200 at NCAA Indoors, got her outdoor season started with a victory in the women's 100 meters. She crossed the finish in 11.19, just off her wind-legal PB of 11.16 from the Desert Heat Classic last season. With her performance, Mays improved upon her opener of 11.35 from last year at the same meet. 8. Ducks continue offensive roll in doubleheader sweep Oregon ran its streak of scoring double digits to five games in a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern State on Saturday at PK Park, winning 12-7 and 13-3 to take a 3-0 series lead. A day after hitting a school record six home runs in a game in a 16-1 win on Friday, the Ducks (14-7) hit six home runs combined in the doubleheader. The 12 home runs in three games are the most in Oregon modern-era baseball history, besting the old record of eight hit in both 2021 and 2022. Tanner Smith hit home runs in both games, running his streak of home runs in consecutive games to four dating back to the series finale at Washington State last Sunday. 11. Series Even Entering Sunday's Finale The No. 19 Oregon softball team squandered some precious opportunities Saturday in a loss to No. 3 UCLA. Oregon rallied back from an early deficit but UCLA struck the two biggest blows Saturday as the No. 3 Bruins evened the series with the No. 19 The Ducks (20-9, 3-5 Pac-12) scored twice in the first inning for a 2-1 lead and got a two-run homer from Terra McGowan in the sixth, but a grand slam by the Bruins in the fourth and a two-run shot in the seventh were the difference. In a game that featured just a single 1-2-3 half inning, UCLA was 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position while Oregon was 2-for-17, as the Ducks left 11 runners on base. "The grand slam, it's tough — that one hurt — but you're never out of it," UO coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "I mean, we're standing in the last inning and we've got the tying run at the plate. So we're in this game; you can't leave that many runners on base." The Ducks stranded runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, and had runners at second and third when the game ended. I think both of our offenses are throwing punches, so I knew that we’re going to have to leave them out on the field and it’s not going to be all on me; we’re going to have use every single position.” No. 18 Oregon softball strands 11 in loss to Megan Faraimo, No. 4 UCLA WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM Faraimo allowed two runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit batter with eight strikeouts over 6.2 innings to lead the No. 4 Bruins in a...
