The mood floating around Cali's second largest -- but still laidback -- city is split between breathless anticipation and trying not to get too emotionally invested. Dreams have been dashed here before. See: The Chargers following the 2016 season. "It's not an if, it's a when," said a high-ranking industry source regarding SDSU's future opportunity to join the Pac-12. "Now that USC and UCLA are gone, there's nobody really to block us," said Jack McGrory, an SDSU alumnus, professor on campus for 25 years and now a member of the California State University board of trustees. "We're the only viable option to have a team in Southern California." What Tysheem Johnson's Commitment Means for Oregon Football The Ducks gained a physical defender from the SEC that should help them drastically next season. Coming to Oregon we could expect Johnson to play more of a Nickel-type role, just as he did during his time with Lane Kiffin and the Rebels. One of his best attributes is his ability to defend the run and cover more physical tight ends and running backs out of the backfield. Tight ends became an issue for the Ducks in some areas last season and that's one area Johnson can aid this defense. Watching the tape from last season, you can see the relentlessness he brings as a defender just by flying to the ball. Bringing in 78 total tackles as an SEC defender is not something every player can do and Lanning hit it on the mark when he secured Johnson's commitment. Can Oregon men’s basketball avenge its dreadful loss at Colorado, contain Tristan da Silva? Whether UO can avenge its dreadful 68-41 loss in Boulder, in which it scored the fewest points with the least assists (three) and shot lowest from the field (26.9%) during Dana Altman’s tenure is another matter. If the Ducks (11-9, 5-4 Pac-12) are going to start a critical six-game stretch, which will go a long way in determining their postseason viability, with a win tonight they’ll need to make drastic improvements in their offensive play and also contain CU’s Tristan da Silva, who had a career game with 30 points and seven rebounds against UO. Ducks enter crucial road trip with focus on improved consistency and defense "We're just not there right now. We as a coaching staff have to figure it out," Graves said following Thursday's practice. "What are we doing that we can do better?" With the agonizing nature of their defeat in Corvallis still fresh, the Ducks have gotten to work this week to find solutions. Because the team did not play on Sunday, Graves gave the team two days off — a rarity this time of year — to get right physically as well as emotionally. The team's overall as heath is as good as it's been in months, he believes. The state of Oregon's safety room following the portal window's closing The trio of Jamal Hill, Steve Stephens IV and Bryan Addison have each elected to use the NCAA's COVID-19 exemption to remain with the program in 2023. Reserves JJ Greenfield (a walk-on), Daymon David and Khamari Terrell each played sparingly last season, and remain on the roster with spring approaching, while Trejon Williams is back after redshirting last season. The Ducks have added two talented players from the transfer portal to shore up any holes in the secondary. Ole Miss transfer Tysheem Johnson committed on Wednesday, and appears to be a great fit to replace Williams at nickel, while Evan Williams, Williams' younger brother, has also joined the team after starring at Fresno State the past two seasons. Both players are expected to compete for starting spots this fall. Oregon signed four-star safety prospects Tyler Turner and Kodi Decambra in December. Turner has already enrolled in class. While both players have intriguing upside, redshirt years could be in store for both with all the veteran experience on the roster.
