  1. Bill Oram: Oregon Ducks poised for Big Ten success while Washington’s future turns murky after Kalen DeBoer bolts

Oregon has lost its last three games against Washington and the Huskies are just days removed from playing for the college football national championship.

But at the moment the Ducks are pretty clearly dominating the rivalry.

The swinging pendulum of coaching drama will do that.

Dan Lanning is puffing on a stogie in Eugene. Kalen DeBoer is scouting real estate in Tuscaloosa and preparing to take a stroll in Nick Saban’s leviathan loafers.

Lanning’s decision to rebuff Alabama, leading the Crimson Tide to hire DeBoer, is certainly an entertaining twist in the history of this Northwest rivalry. It’s good fodder for barbs on social media. But there is also a bigger point here.

And it’s that Oregon finds itself poised for a much more graceful transition to the Big Ten than its rival.

They’re going in together, but not as equals...

  2. Pro Ducks: Every former Oregon football player in the NFL playoffs

Thirteen former Oregon players have made their way to the NFL Playoffs this season. While the Ducks may have fallen short of College Football Playoff glory this year, Pro Ducks have a lot of opportunities to make a big impact in playoffs.

With players across eight of the 14 teams in the playoff picture, I would argue that fans have a good chance of seeing their beloved Ducks in the Super Bowl but maybe that’s just optimistic thinking.

Sadly, there will be no Herbert or Thibodeux on the scene as the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Giants were eliminated well before the bracket was set.

The Ducks currently have 36 players on an NFL 53-man roster, here’s a look at who you can see show off their skills in the playoffs...

  4. Ducks land big-time transfer from Houston DL Ja'Maree Caldwell

The hits keep coming for the Oregon Ducks, who just landed another transfer portal addition, this time on the defensive line with the commitment from former Houston Cougars DL Ja’Maree Caldwell.

Caldwell is a 6-foot-1, 325-pound defensive lineman who will provide a big body for the Ducks in the middle of the defensive line, a position group that was definitely in need of some depth this offseason.

Caldwell played two seasons at Houston, where he racked up 39 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. He was rated as a 4-start player in the transfer portal, and the No. 17 overall player that was available this offseason.

247Sports had him as the No. 2 DL in the portal, behind only Walter Nolen, who committed to Ole Miss...

  5. Why Alabama chose Kalen DeBoer as its new head coach

Kalen DeBoer has a tough act to follow.

Alabama will name DeBoer its next head coach, sources told ESPN on Friday, replacing Nick Saban and his more than 200 wins and six national titles at the school.

DeBoer, 49, is 105-12 as a head coach and was named AP Coach of the Year at Washington last season on his way to the national championship game.

Now he must transition into a tougher-than-ever SEC that adds Texas and Oklahoma next season.

Why did the Tide choose DeBoer to lead the next era of Alabama football? And what's next for Washington?

  6. Former Oregon Ducks’ star Terrence Mitchell signs with the San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran cornerback Terrance Mitchell to their practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.

The 49ers are familiar with Mitchell, who spent two weeks in the 49ers training camp. The former Oregon Ducks’ star signed a one-year deal with the team in July. He was placed on injured reserve in August and was released on an injury settlement Aug. 9.

Mitchell, a 10-year veteran, has not played this season. He’s previously played with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, Kansas City, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans.

Mitchell started in combined total of 56 games with the Texans and Titans during the 2021 and 2022 seasons...

  7. Duck fans react to No. 1 WR Evan Stewart's commitment to Oregon

With the addition of Stewart, it’s clear that the Ducks have one of the best receiver rooms in the nation going into the 2024 season.

After a day of celebration from the Lanning news, Oregon fans kept it going on Thursday night with the announcement of Stewart’s commitment...

  8. Dan Lanning: "I think we have a program that can be the best in the nation"

On Thursday, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning announced he was staying at Oregon instead of going after the Alabama head coaching job following Nick Saban's retirement.

Lanning gave an exclusive interview about the decision with ESPN's Pat McAfee on ESPN's broadcast of the Pat McAfee Show.

Here are a few notes of what Lanning said during the 8-minute interview.

Lanning said he never was in the state of Alabama and was watching a movie with one of his sons Wednesday night when he started receiving text messages from players, people within the college football industry, and other outlets.

Lanning said the noise was a bit of a distraction Wednesday night but that he quickly shut it down to the people he needed to tell.

"They know where I am at. 10 toes down," Lanning said of his message to his team.

Why stay at Oregon over Alabama? Lanning referenced the same talking points he's repeated repeatedly: Oregon has everything he wants at Oregon.
