Tehya Bird is proving to be a different player in critical situations and in the postseason.

The Oregon third baseman, a .277 hitter on the season, is hitting more than 100 points higher with two outs and runners in scoring position following yet another clutch hit.

Bird’s three-run home run in the second capped a 10-pitch at-bat and gave Oregon the lead for good in a 5-4 win over Notre Dame Friday afternoon at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

“I thought she had a really good at-bat,” Oregon coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “She continued to foul off pitches; it allowed her to get in a really good rhythm at the plate and then she got her pitch to hit. Love all these guys in different moments have come up big for us. It’s not just one or two.”

The Ducks (36-15) advance to the winner’s bracket semifinal and will face the winner of regional host No. 11 seed Arkansas and Harvard at 12 p.m. PT Saturday. The Fighting Irish will play the loser of that game in the first elimination game of the regional at 2:30 p.m.

SAN FRANCISCO – May 19, 2023 – The Pac-12 Conference today reported the financial performance for the financial year 2021-2022, with record total revenues of $581M and record distributions at $444M, representing an average of $37M per member university.  The increase in reported revenues and distributions from the last Pac-12 pre-pandemic 2019-2020 financial results, at 9% and 10% respectively, is primarily a result of increases in media rights, post-season Bowl revenues and NCAA basketball tournament revenue distributions. The equity value of the Pac-12’s full ownership of its Pac-12 Networks is not included in reported results.

ESPN’s Greg McElroy: Big Ten would rather raid the ACC, not the Pac-12

I understand him saying what he is saying due to the unrest the ACC is facing right now, why he thinks BIG 10 would go after schools on the East Coast over the West Coast.

I don't agree with him on his reasoning towards the West Coast, just because they apprehended the LA market.

Here's the first rundown of the 2024 cycle's Pac-12 recruiter rankings with the Ducks atop the conference recruiting leaderboard and 7th nationally.

The Ducks are once again out in front on the Pac-12 recruiting leaderboard. This isn't unfamiliar territory, as the program has signed the league's top class in four of the past five years.

This class is far from done though. There are still dozens of highly-regarded preps who've yet to pick a school.

The Ducks continue to get work done on the recruiting trail, and that fact is due to the hard work of its assistant coaches. These coaches act as the point-men in numerous recruitments for top prospects. They deal with the day-to-day grind, help coordinate visits and close the deal. And when they do the latter, they're credited in 247Sports Recruiter Rankings.

These rankings help communicate which coaches have enjoyed the most success on the trail.

As things stand right now, the Ducks are miles ahead of the rest of the league with a No. 7 ranking. Colorado is second-best with a 34th national ranking.

Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Jayden Limar

Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Jayden Limar showed during his first spring football camp.

Today, we continue this series with running back Jayden Limar.

Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 294th-rated overall prospect /18th-rated running back

    Height/Weight: 5-foot-11 / 190 pounds

Outlook this fall: One of two early enrollee running backs on hand for spring, Limar appeared to make strong first impressions. Veteran running back Noah Whittington referred to the freshmen pairing of Dante Dowdell and Limar as "thunder and lightning" with Limar's speed impressing during offseason training. Limar's spring game was a fairly quiet one. He carried the ball twice for six yards and caught one pass for 14. He also memorably dropped a pass for a would-be third down conversion.

4-star TE Puts Oregon in his top 5

For the second day in a row, a high-quality tight end prospect placed the Oregon Ducks among their top five schools. On Thursday, it was Ryner Swanson, the 19th-best tight end in the class of 2023, who expressed an interest in Oregon.

The Ducks’ star tight end in 2022 was Terrance Ferguson, but this spring, he went down with an injury that could keep him off the field for a while. Following Ferguson’s injury the Ducks have made multiple TE pickups in the transfer portal such as Kaden Ludwick from Colorado and Casey Kellyfrom Ole Miss

In the class of 2024, the No. 1 TE Jaden Reddell has shown a strong interest in the Ducks after putting them in his top five Wednesday. As players, Swanson and Reddell differ. One of Reddell’s biggest strengths is his speed, but one of Swanson’s is his size. Swanson often uses that size to both bring down contested catches and break tackles in the open field.

Swanson is a California native, but the only school in his home state that has extended him an offer is Stanford. Oregon is the only coastal school in his top five, and it is also one of the closer schools to his hometown. If those factors are selling points for Swanson, the Ducks could be closer to the top of that five than the bottom of it.

Oregon’s hopes of an NCAA Tournament at-large bid are approaching extinction.

Three relievers combined to allow seven runs and the Ducks committed four errors in a 12-5 loss to last-place Utah Thursday night at Smith’s Ballpark. It snapped a 12-game win streak for UO, which last lost to Utah on April 2, 2017.

It was the fifth straight loss and eighth in nine games for Oregon (31-20, 14-14 Pac-12), which entered the weekend No. 39 in RPI compared to Utah’s 144, making it one of UO’s worst losses of the season.

Miles Lockhart Entering Pivotal Stretch of Recruitment

When I first head of 2024 Chandler (Ariz.) Basha cornerback Miles Lockhart, I was curious to get the full story on what kind of player he was. I asked his head coach Chris McDonald, and he said he was just like Cole Martin, but a year younger.

His coverage ability, short area burst and overall athleticism have helped him earn 23 scholarship offers.

Now he's entering an important stretch of his recruitment as he eyes official visits.

"I have Ohio State the 23rd through the 25th of June," he told Ducks Digest at Basha's spring showcase. "I have Wisconsin the 15th through the 17th of June. I need to set up Oregon. And then I'm probably going to set one up to Texas A&M as well."

As his official visits start to come into focus, his feel for his top schools has also gotten clearer. "Those schools really are my top schools. Oregon, Wisconsin, Ohio State, (Texas) A&M."

Oregon offers 2024 four-star WR out of Texas

Oregon's recruiting session continues to work in full motion as OC Will Stein offers four-star Ashton Bethel-Roman

Recruiting and offer season is in full bloom, and Oregon continues to make strides in Texas just one season after signing six prospects from the Lone Star State a season ago.

Oregon has emerged even more in Texas as former UTSA offensive coordinator and Lake Travis High School offensive coordinator Will Stein continues to use his connections and put the Ducks back into discussions.

Recently, Stein has offered four-star WR Ashton Bethel-Roman out of Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas.

Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Cole Martin

Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Cole Martin showed during his first spring football camp.

Today, we continue this series with cornerback Cole Martin.

Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 239th-rated overall prospect /28nd-rated wide receiver

    Height/Weight: 5-foot-10 / 175 pounds

Outlook this fall: Martin had arguably the most impactful spring game of any freshmen participant. He was credited with three tackles and a pass break-up. His play popped too, as he exhibited impressive coverage skills as well as a highlight play or two in run support. It's no surprise that CB coach Demetrice Martin's kid is a bit more advanced than other freshmen on the roster, but his spring game impact was larger than just about anyone had expected.

The Ducks are poised for a monster weekend on the recruiting trail as they're the favorites to land 2024 quarterback Michael Van Buren and defensive lineman Xadavien Sims.

But even more good news is likely on the way.

Today I'm logging a prediction for Oregon to land 2024 San Jacinto (Calif.) wide receiver Dillon Gresham.

Confidence meter: 8/10 Gresham is slated to make his college commitment on Monday May 22 at 9 am PST.

EXPLAINING THE PICK Gresham flew a little under the radar recently, but that really changed this spring. His most recent trip to Eugene in April looks like it really moved the needle in his recruitment.

Junior Adams has not so quietly become one of the best recruiters on Oregon's staff and has proven to be a major asset on the trail, especially for top talent in his native state of California. Gresham hasn't quite attracted the national attention that Jordan Anderson and Tyseer Denmark have in their recruitments, but that's perfectly fine with the Ducks.

They've made him a big priority in the 2024 class. While they had some real momentum for other targets like Aaron Butler, another elite wide receiver out of Southern California, his relationship with Deion Sanders really pushed that one over the edge.

But Oregon stayed involved with Gresham and that looks like it's going to pay off in a big way. He's also good friends with Anderson, who's been one of Oregon's biggest recruiters from the moment he committed in December.

Furthermore, the coaching staff has deep ties to the talent hotbed of Southern California and they're going to continue returning for top talent for years to come.

Gresham has been insanely productive on the field during his high school career and he should be a very strong addition to this class. His commitment would give the Ducks three wide receivers in 2024 and I think they still would like to add a big-bodied pass catcher at the position.

No. 1 2024 TE Jaden Reddell puts Ducks in his top five

After Terrance Ferguson went down this spring, tight end immediately became a position that the Oregon Ducks need to recruit. Since then, true freshman Kenyon Sadiq has been impressive and a few days ago, the Ducks picked up TE Seydou Traore from Colorado. Still, tight end has remained a focus., and the Ducks still want to bring in high-end talent.

In the class 2024, the No. 1 TE in the country, Jaden Reddell has shown interest in Oregon. On Wednesday, he announced that he has narrowed his search to five schools, one of which is the Ducks.

Seven hottest position battles to keep an eye on come fall

Here's a rundown of the biggest position battles that'll remain once fall camp kicks off in August.

Oregon fans who've played close attention know all about Dan Lanning's "growth mindset". It's become a pillar of his program's culture. Each rep in practice and each clip in film sessions provide the athletes an opportunity to get better.

Personal development and improvement manifest themselves in different ways, but one of the more concrete means is through playing time. Playing time is earned, and it's earned through competition.

While we anticipate each and every spot to be aggressively fought over, we think a few starting spots may be more hotly-contested than the rest. I want to be clear that these aren't exclusively starting spots I think will be fiercely fought over. I've included several backup position battles as well.

So, here are the seven spots we expect to hold the hottest position battles when fall camp kicks off in a few months time.

Oregon offers 2025 4-star QB out of Texas

Oregon has extended a new offer at the QB position.

The Oregon Ducks have one commitment already in the 2024 recruiting class in Luke Moga, could be close to landing a second in Michael Van Buren, and now are starting to put a lot of focus on the 2025 class at QB.

With that focus comes evaluating their targets and issuing out new scholarship offers. The Ducks have done just that on Wednesday morning in the state of Texas.

Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein was in Texas making evaluations and offered a prospect that he's been familiar with due to his previous coaching role at UTSA. Stein offered 6-foot QB Ty Hawkins of the 2025 recruiting class. Hawkins is a 6-0, 185-pounder out of Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio. Hawkins is rated as a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, is rated No. 18 in the country at the position, and the 41st best prospect in Texas. 247Sports ranks Hawkins as the No. 16 best QB in the country, the 39th best prospect in Texas, and has ranked Hawkins as a 3-star.

Oregon offers new OL name in the 2024 recruiting class

The Ducks have offered a new name in the 2024 recruiting class along the offensive line.

The Oregon Ducks 2024 class is the top class in the Pac-12 and ranked nationally at No. 7 overall. The Ducks have gone off to a great start and part of that start has been securing multiple commitments at the offensive line position. The Ducks hold two commitments at the tackle positions and are now looking to add interior linemen to the mix. The Ducks offered a new name this week at the interior offensive line.

Oregon extended a scholarship to 2024 3-star offensive lineman Nate Kibble. The 6-foot-2, 324-pound prospect plays his prep football out of Atascocita high school in Humble, Texas. Kibble announced the scholarship offer over social media after the Oregon coaching staff made a recent stop through his area of Texas making evaluations. The Ducks are efforting to get Kibble up to campus and visit Eugene for an unofficial visit this coming summer ahead of the 2023 football season.

Oregon football becomes favorite to land 4-star DL Xadavien Sims

A few months ago, Oregon football became the latest Power Five program to extend an offer for Xadavien Sims and join the sweepstakes to land one of the top defensive linemen in the 2024 class.

It seemed like an offer that may have been too late considering Michigan State and Oklahoma had already developed a strong relationship with Sims, but the Ducks made his recent top five.

Oregon made the final cut for Sims along with TCU, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Michigan State and now it looks like the Ducks are picking up some momentum here ahead of a decision date that the four-star lineman set for May 20.

On Wednesday, the crystal balls on 247Sports began rolling in for Oregon to land Sims. The most important crystal ball, however, was from director of recruiting, Steve Wiltfong. That’s the crystal ball that you really want to see as a fan.

It seems like Dan Lanning and Co. have taken the lead here.

    SATURDAYBLITZ.COM

A few months ago, Oregon football became the latest Power Five program to extend an offer for Xadavien Sims and join the sweepstakes to land one of the top...

Wiltfong generally has a pretty good feel for what is happening.

So over the past week, while recruiting predictions flooded in for 4-star DL Xadavien Sims to go to both the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oregon Ducks, Wiltfong’s prediction on Wednesday afternoon — a log for Dan Lanning and the Ducks — should give Oregon fans quite a bit of confidence.

Sims is rated by 247Sports as the No. 121 overall player in the 2024 class, and the No. 16 defensive lineman. He will announce his ultimate commitment on Saturday afternoon, the same day that 4-star QB Michael Van Buren announces — another player who is favored to go to the Ducks.

‘Time to improve’: Dan Lanning, Rob Mullens reflect on Oregon’s 2022, look ahead to 2023 for Ducks

Dan Lanning and his staff took over a good situation at Oregon and delivered a 10-win season in 2022. But expectations, both from the outside and internally, are higher than a Holiday Bowl win and the Ducks aren’t shying away from that as they prepare for 2023.

“Lots of excitement around your first year,” Lanning said. “It was a lot of fun. Certainly enjoy the people I got to work with each day, but for me, looking to go finish what we started and there’s some things that I feel like we wanted to accomplish that we didn’t.
