Redshirt recap: Which Oregon freshmen redshirt and which didn't in 2023?

Oregon's 2023 class proved instrumental in this year's team success. Eleven members of the class played in at least five games to avoid redshirting.

  2. I decided to move all the Redshirt Freshmen in Review articles here in it's own Post.

The majority of Oregon's 2023 recruiting class used redshirted last season. That includes offensive tackle Gernorris Wilson. Here's where we think things stand with him after one year at Oregon.

Dan Lanning's second recruiting class factored in to the team's on-field success in 2023. But while nearly a dozen players carved out roles, the majority of the 29-player 2023 signing class did not.

Of the 28 freshmen who enrolled last year, 11 appeared in enough games to avoid redshirt, led by tight end Kenyon Sadiq, offensive lineman Iapani Laloulu, and outside linebacker Blake Purchase who saw action in all 14 games. Oregon fans have become somewhat familiar with those 11 players (two have already transferred), but the 15 redshirts who remain on the roster? Not so much. In this series, we'll do our best to bring you up to speed with them.

Report: MAC commissioner disputes reports of College Football Playoff-ESPN agreement on new TV deal

On Feb. 13, reports surfaced claiming ESPN and the College Football Playoff had reached an agreement on a 6-year, $7.8 billion rights extension. However, per a report from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger on Sunday, it’s hardly a done deal.

Through an open records request, Dellenger obtained an email MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher sent to his fellow league administrators, verifying the CFP has not struck a deal with ESPN.

Several news outlets are reporting that a new six-year television deal has been concluded for the College Football Playoff,” Steinbrecher wrote in an email dated Feb. 13. “Be advised, these reports are incorrect. Neither the Management Committee (commissioners) nor the Board of Managers (presidents) have reviewed a draft agreement nor has any vote been taken.”

    All about Penn State:

A football program with a storied history but marred by scandal, a women’s soccer program that has produced several Portland Thorns players, and a college town that serves as an example of the magic of college sports.

The Penn State Nittany Lions joined the Big Ten Conference in 1990 and boast one of the most iconic environments in college football. And with a massive athletic budget, the school has a long list of national championships in several other sports.

As the Oregon Ducks prepare for a move to the Big Ten in 2024, The Oregonian/OregonLive is taking a look at all of their newest conference rivals. While Ducks fans might be deeply familiar with fellow Pac-12 departees Washington, USC and UCLA, they have 14 new teams to get to know this year.

    Next up is Penn State.

The Oregon Ducks have been incredibly active in the transfer portal this year, and after adding the likes of Jabbar Muhammad, Kobe Savage, Kam Alexander, and Brandon Johnson, they appear to be set when it comes to talent in the secondary going into the 2024 season.

That doesn’t mean that they don’t want to continue to improve, though.

A relatively surprising name entered the portal earlier this week when Michigan Wolverines safety Keon Sabb announced that he was looking to transfer. Now it’s being reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett that the Ducks are one of many teams who have reached out to Sabb since he became available.
