Notable quotes from Dan Lanning following Oregon's first spring practice The second year of Dan Lanning’s tenure in Eugene with the Oregon Ducks officially started on Thursday morning, with the team taking the field for their first spring practice of the year. It’s a season that has some high expectations from fans and the college football world at large, with quarterback Bo Nix coming back for one final season, boasting aspirations of being named a Heisman Trophy finalist when all is said and done After notching 10 wins in his first year with the Ducks, Lanning knows that he will need a strong second act in order to keep the momentum rolling in Eugene. As the Ducks continue to work towards the annual spring game on April 29th, we got a chance to catch up with the head coach following the first of 15 practices. Here are some of his most notable quotes from the interview: Oregon Football: Notable quotes from Dan Lanning after first practice DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM “I haven’t been around a lot of spring practices that weren’t good on day one.” Dan Lanning broke down the Ducks’ first practice on Thursday.

  8. If no one did not see this article and interview that goes along with the other articles. Here it is from Mark Harlan. Utah Athletic Director Mark Harlan: I Am Tired Of Outside Forces Creating Narratives Involving Utah, Our Conference SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Athletic Director Mark Harlan joined Unrivaled on Wednesday afternoon to set the record straight regarding the on-going Pac-12 media rights negotiations and why he’s tired of outside forces creating narratives. The Pac-12 has been surrounded by rumors of “sure demise” since USC and UCLA announced their intention to leave the Conference of Champions after this upcoming football season, last summer. One of the main rumors consistently reported on in the last eight months has been that Utah, ASU, Arizona, and Colorado are in talks to join the Big 12. Last week, we put out an article challenging that notion based on conversations had with reliable sources around the situation. Harlan joined Scott Mitchell and Alex Kirry on the heels of this interview from ASU President Michael Crow, further cementing that the Utes are staying put in the Pac-12, and the remaining members are committed and close to signing a deal they are happy with. We’ve Always Had A Plan Harlan started out by saying he and the rest of his colleagues have never not been clear in their intent to stick together as 10 to form a plan that worked for everyone. He further explained that forging a deal of this nature with all the moving parts and people to please is hard and takes time. “I’ve been clear all along- the other schools in our conference have been clear all along that we’re together,” Harlan said. “We’re 10. We’ve said it. We’re working hard with our commissioner to get this deal done. It’s a complicated deal. There is structure and high expectations with ADs and certainly the presidents and chancellors for the commissioner to nail this thing so we can march forward.” Harlan continued by hinting the Pac-12 has never been on anyone else’s timetable, and therefore outsiders have taken liberties in their reporting on what is going on. It reached a point, according to Harlan where he felt like he had to say something, hence, the now infamous, “Give me a break,” Tweet. “Because we aren’t hitting certain people’s expectations of time and outside forces, people start chipping away,” Harlan said. “They start creating things like ‘Four Corners’ and whatever comes up. Whatever causes the clicks- whatever it might be. So yes. I read an article by a writer that I actually have great respect for in Dennis Dodd, but the article had a bunch of things that weren’t true.” There is a Podcast interview in with the write up. 9. What's the season-defining game for each Top 25 team next season? From the opening week matchups of blue bloods to the November conference battles defining the college football landscape, a season-defining game can come at any point. Last season, fans were treated to Ohio State outlasting Notre Dame, Georgia announcing its intention of winning back-to-back titles with a 49-3 rout of Oregon, and Florida State reasserting its place in the top 25 all within the first week of action. Of course these were followed up with Tennessee's defeat of Alabama, Georgia's rout of Tennessee and Michigan's second straight statement against Ohio State on the way to the College Football Playoff. A season-defining game can be previously circled on the calendar for months or come out of nowhere in college football but these are the ones our writers have their eyes on for each Way-Too-Early Top 25 team this upcoming fall. 10. Predicting who the fourth Pac-12 expansion candidate could be There is still one mystery program that is viewed as a Pac-12 expansion candidate Not sure if this was ever posted. 13. Five freshmen who hardly played in 2022 who could be big in 2023 Dan Lanning didn't play true freshmen much a season ago. That allowed the majority of Oregon's 2022 signing class to redshirt with only five members avoiding it. Regardless of Lanning's desire to play true frosh, every season second-year players develop into contributors. That's an annual tradition everywhere. Because of the lack of playing time a year ago, it's a bit difficult to peg five players from the 2022 cycle who are ready to take a step this season, but, I've done my best to identify a few I think have a chance to play bigger roles in year two than in year one. This list is obviously not exhaustive, and I'm not including Josh Conerly Jr., who appeared in all 13 games a season ago. The other 16 frosh are fair game though. There are several others I'm not including in my five who I could see being factors during the 2023 season as well. House Bill 3427, proposed by Rep. Paul Evans, D-Monmouth, calls for public state universities that wish to “change the athletic association, conference or organization with authority over intercollegiate sports” to make the recommendation to “the appropriate legislative committees for review.” The desired change in conferences “may not take effect unless it has first been submitted to the appropriate legislative committees ... and has been approved by the Legislative Assembly. The Legislative Assembly may adopt, amend or reject the proposed change,” according to the proposed HB 3427. 16. Breaking Down The Recent Drama Of Pac-12 Media Rights “We’re close to knowing where we’re going to be, and I think we’re close to a deal,” Crow said. “I think that the Pac-12 media rights became more complicated with the departure of USC and UCLA. The media rights became more complicated also, as things always do because markets go like this. They’re up and down, up and down. But, we have fabulous sports teams and the remaining teams, we’re going to get a good offer. We’re in the final stages of that process.” Report: ASU President Michael Crow, Pac-12 Media Rights KSLSPORTS.COM ASU President Michael Crow went on record with ASU student paper, The State Press, on Pac-12 media rights saying they are close to a deal. "There have been no discussions with the Big 12 conference on moving," Crow said. "I mean, there's been discussions between everyone everywhere on all things related to where our conference is going and where stuff's going to end up and what's happening. 22. Oregon Spring Ball Player Spotlight: Kenyon Sadiq's instant-impact opportunity The Oregon Ducks will be taking the practice field and getting the spring football season later this week. This fact has brought a ton of excitement to Eugene. We’re going to continue by putting the spotlight on incoming 2023 TE Kenyon Sadiq, one of the top-rated players in Oregon’s most recent class. The Hype Going into Spring De’Anthony Thomas holds the record for the most touchdowns by a true freshman in Oregon Ducks history, with 18. 23. Spring Recruiting Party: High-profile recruits expected in Eugene over the coming weeks It feels like the world of college football is starting to wake up from hibernation. Since the start of February when national signing day took place, there hasn’t been much going on in the news cycle. Recruiting has been on a dead period, the transfer portal window was closed, and spring football was still weeks out. However, that’s starting to change. The Oregon Ducks start spring practice later this week, and recruits from all over the country are starting to flock to Eugene, with a number of high-profile visits announced over the next few weeks. Of course, the biggest recruiting weekend for Dan Lanning and Co. will be on April 29th with the annual Spring Game bringing the likes of 5-star QB Dylan Raiola, 5-star KJ Bolden, 5-star Dylan Stewart, and the entirety of the Elite 11 Camp to town. There are some incredibly important visits taking place between now and then as well. Below are the scheduled visits that we have confirmed will take place in the months of March and April so far. Of course, more will be added to the list as time goes on. 24. New UO president's Big Ten roots add fuel to conference realignment fire What all of this means In a short-term view of things, this doesn’t mean much when it comes to the world of conference realignment. Scholz isn’t taking over at Oregon until July, and he won’t be able to throw his weight around in a major way immediately. In a long-term view of things, though, this certainly could be something that inches the University of Oregon on when it comes to the notion of leaving the Pac-12 for the Big Ten. There are, of course, a ton of moving pieces, and it takes more than just the actions of one university president to make that sort of move happen. However, based on his track record, and his stated opinions on both realignment and the status of the Big Ten, it feels like fans who are in the camp of “Oregon needs to leave the Pac-12” should be happy with this hire. Oregon Football: New UO president’s has conference realignment history DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM The new UO president has been vocal about his approval of conference realignment and Big Ten expansion in the past.
