I like when Phil Knight said "anytime you want to be successful, you have to have the courage to fail.  You have to be unafraid."

Phil Knight got into putting his efforts into helping when Oregon went to the Rose bowl and back to back Cotton bowls, Phil Knight ask "what do we need to do, what we need to take it to the next level."

Also in the video it was said "We can either be like Oregon, or no way in hell we are going to be like that Oregon team."

    Great stuff.

After a season that saw Troy Franklin and Tez Johnson set school records, 2024 just might be better.

Here's what PFF had to say about putting Oregon atop the country: "Between Tez Johnson and Texas A&M transfer Evan Stewart, Oregon has the best receiving duo in the sport. They were the only pair to both place inside the top-10 of my wide receiver rankings for next season, placing fourth and ninth respectively. Johnson led all Power Five receivers this past season with 727 yards after the catch. Stewart missed five games in 2023 due to a leg injury but the former top-10 overall recruit was second among FBS true freshmen in 2022 with 643 receiving yards.

Klatt discussed this thought during an appearance on ‘The Herd’ on Monday. To him, the universities themselves should stop having the ability to schedule out their seasons. It’s not something that they do in the pros and isn’t something that he wants for the collegiate level.

“I’m going to go on a different wavelength and layer than what you just did. I would love if we stopped allowing individual teams to control their own schedule,” said Klatt. “You know, the Detroit Lions don’t build their own schedule. The New York Giants don’t build their own schedule.”

If this switch was made, Klatt believes it’ll be easier to evaluate teams for the College Football Playoff.  More uniform scheduling would simplify how everyone can measure those who could potentially be within the field’s dozen berths.

“I don’t think that we should do it in college football, in particular as we’re moving into an era where we’re going to have a 12-team playoff,” said Klatt. “We’re going to have to rate these teams somehow against one another for inclusion into the most important tournament in college football, which is going to be the College Football Playoff.”

“I firmly believe that we need some sort of agreement on how many conference games that we’re all going to play within our conferences. Then the non-conference games needs to go into a pool,” Klatt explained. “We need to start playing each other more often.”

Oregon beating Ohio State will set the bar in the BIG.  This will give Oregon the leg up it needs, pushing pressure on the Buckeyes to play catch up.

As we usher in this new era of college football, there are 10 games that I believe will most likely shape the season (and possibly the sport). Let's take a look at those 10 games in chronological order.

Joel Klatt shared his 10 matchups that are most likely to shape the 2024 college football season, starting with a Big Ten-SEC showdown.

The way that the new playoff format is set up, the top-four seeds — or the Power 4 conference champions — will all receive a bye into the second round of the playoff, thereon giving them a better chance to reach the championship game. This past week, ESPN released their new Football Power Index  numbers for the upcoming season, and one of the probabilities they offered was how likely each team in the nation was to get that first-round bye.

Here’s where the Ducks ranked among the top schools:

    DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM

ESPN’s FPI has Oregon Football as an early favorite to receive a first-round bye in the 2025 College Football Playoff.

ESPN’s FPI preseason projections give Oregon best odds to win Big Ten in 2024

Here’s what the full list looks like heading into the season

    Oregon Ducks - 37.5 percent

Ohio State Buckeyes - 25.7 percent

Penn State Nittany Lions - 22.2 percent

    Michigan Wolverines - 7.3 percen

    USC Trojans - 2.9 percent

Rutgers Scarlet Knights - 1.0 percent

    Iowa Hawkeyes - 0.9 percent

    Wisconsin Badgers - 0.5 percent

    Washington Huskies - 0.5 percent

    Maryland Terrapins - 0.4 percent

    UCLA Bruins - 0.3 percent

    Northwestern Wildcats - 0.1 percent

    Purdue Boilermakers - 0.1 percent

Minnesota Golden Gophers - 0.1 percent

Illinois Fighting Illini - 0.1 percent

    Nebraska Cornhuskers - 0.6 percent

Michigan State Spartans - 0.0 percent

    Indiana Hoosiers - 0.0 percent

It’d be pretty great (for Oregon football fans) if this is how things played out this season, but it’s still way too early to tell exactly how things will unfold. Of course, there’s no way that the other Big Ten teams (especially the ones who’ve been in the conference for a while now) will like those numbers.
