  1. In eight years, Smart has already grown an impressive coaching tree that keeps sprouting branches Dan Lanning, Oregon Inarguably the most successful Smart acolyte thus far, Lanning's ascendant coaching career is something to behold. Nine years ago, he was a graduate assistant at Alabama. Then he spent two seasons as the inside linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Memphis before Smart hired Lanning, at 32 years old, to coach outside linebackers in 2018. Lanning was named defensive coordinator at Georgia in 2019, and in 2022 he was hired at Oregon, becoming the youngest power conference coach at the age of 35. Since then, he's won 22 games with the Ducks and already has a Fiesta Bowl win under his belt. Oregon is a safe bet to compete for a spot in the 12-team playoff for years to come as Lanning steadily grows. "Back when I worked in the Pasco County bureau of The Tampa Tribune, we wrote a lot about the Zephyrhills Bulldogs. DJ might be the most recruited Bulldog ever. Unless it’s his uncle Ryan, who played DT at Ohio State," he wrote. Pickett has interest from basically every big-time program in America, though he's cutting his list down to only a handful of schools as we get into the spring. https://thespun.com/college-football/no-7-overall-recruit-dj-pickett-sets-4-official-visits

  8. A CFP run in 2024 for the Oregon Ducks require statementz wins, says ESPN The Oregon Ducks have been on the cusp of making the College Football Playoff over the past two years under Dan Lanning, but late-season losses tripped them up in both instances, with a defeat to Oregon State in 2022 ending the playoff dreams, while a loss to Washington in the Pac-12 Championship in 2023 cut things short. So what will Lanning and his team need to do in 2024 in order to make the newly expanded, 12-team playoff? That’s a question that ESPN posited for the top 25 teams in the nation this year going into the spring season. 15. How Sweep It Is The Ducks played their first home games of the season at PK Park this weekend. Hosting the Lafayette Leopards, Oregon hoped to get back on track after its loss to Texas Tech. To say the Ducks got back on track would be an understatement, in the first game of the season in Eugene, Oregon scored at least one run in every inning. Earning its first home victory of the year, Oregon dominated the offensive game. Earning 17 runs on 14 hits, Lafayette couldn’t find an answer to the Ducks’ hot bats. The Leopards rotated through six of their pitchers but Oregon simply couldn’t be tamed. Oregon pitcher RJ Gordon was awarded the win after staying on the mound for 6 innings. Gordon allowed just 1 run from 3 hits and struck out 4 batters. Saturday held a doubleheader for the two teams and head coach Mark Wasikowski wasn’t taking his foot off the gas. 16. My sentiments exactly! Imagine playing a national championship game against Georgia in Atlanta? We've been there, done that...a one sided fan event. Why not Las Vegas as the place for the National championship every year? Great stadium, Great place to have the event, plenty of hotels, etc. Pretty much a neutral place to have it.

  19. It was a foregone conclusion that once college football went into a playoff format it would be expanded for more teams than just four. That expansion begins this coming year as the College Football Playoff will include a total of 12 teams with the top four receiving a first-round bye. Those first-round games will be played on campus sites. Expansion doesn’t just mean more teams, however. The football calendar will also be pushed to the limit and will resemble the NFL playoffs and will last nearly that long. The days of college football ending on New Year’s are long over. For those two teams that make the National Championship, they would have played 15 or 16 total games. There was a reason the regular season ended in late November and most bowl games were played in the southern part of the country. The weather. A December game played at Wisconsin or Michigan won’t be fun for players or fans, but these extra playoff games will rack in the dough for schools to spread around. On top of just the new playoff games, coaches and programs will also have to deal with the transfer portal and the early signing period, both of which will come in early December as well. Here’s a look at the upcoming schedule for the 2024-25 season, wich dates set for games this postseason. 21. It never rains in Autzen but it sure does get loud. The home of the Oregon Ducks football team is arguably one of the toughest places for opponents to enter and leave with a win. Autzen Stadium was built in 1967. Through various improvements and remodels, it can now host 54,000 Duck fans. With an in-stadium waterfall and views of the Eugene hills, it’s not just a perfect setting for football, but it’s also chock-full of beauty. Nestled across the Willamette River from Oregon’s campus, fans traipse over the river and through the woods to fill Autzen anytime the Ducks have a home game.
