  2. Dan Lanning taking vibes at Oregon to another level, expert says Duck Territory's Matt Prehm breaks down the state of the Oregon program heading into the 2024 season. Oregon coach Dan Lanning did plenty to win over the Duck fanbase this past season, guiding the Ducks to 12 wins and a top 10 ranking. And that was before Nick Saban retired at Alabama, with Lanning quickly rebuffing reports that he would be one of the top candidates. "Oregon was already pretty high on Dan Lanning following the Fiesta Bowl victory and his ability to retain most of his NFL-eligible underclassmen. Combine that with the school's best recruiting class in school history and Duck fans were puffing their chests," said Matt Prehm with Duck Territory. "So when Lanning shut down the rumors of Alabama and him as quickly as he did, the vibes in Eugene went to another level." Lanning has talked about his belief in what Oregon could be. And the Ducks will have a chance to prove it in a new conference this year, with Oregon moving over to the Big Ten. Prehm broke down the state of the Oregon program and which players to watch for the 2024 season. Follow the action between the first-place Oregon Ducks (14-6, 6-3) and the USC Trojans (8-12, 2-7) from Los Angeles as both programs look to bounce back from a tough weekend and return to the winning track. For the Ducks, they enter Thursday night's game squarely on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament. The Ducks need to start winning games and getting themselves back on the right side of the bubble. 7. Dan Lanning Visits No. 1 Recruit in Washington on Heels of De-Commitment Timing can play a big role in recruiting, and Oregon is looking to capitalize on recent coaching moves that have come as a result of Nick Saban's retirement. Head coach Dan Lanning has been traveling all over the country this month, but he made it a priority to make a stop in the Pacific Northwest to see 2025 Spanaway (Wash.) Bethel linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, who hosted the head coach on Wednedsay With him back on the market, the Ducks should be viewed as serious contenders in his recruitment. Aside from the in-state Huskies, Oregon has distance on their side and they've made a habit of stealing the top talent from Washington. Oregon has become a top destination for elite defensive talent on the West Coast under Lanning, and that's a trend that will almost surely continue. "If you want to play defense out West, you come to Oregon. It's pretty simple," Williams said after making his commitment July. The Ducks have yet to land their first defensive player in the 2025 class, but you can bet that Rainey-Sale is going to be a big name on their board moving forward and they'll work to get him on campus for a visit in Eugene. https://www.heraldonline.com/sports/college/article284974552.html#storylink=rss
