  1. Oregon Football: Keeping the Talent in Eugene Building a winning program means gathering all the talent you can.... and keeping it. Dan Lanning has built something in Eugene. As many message boards today are swirling with rumors about the Alabama head coach slot being open, lets take a moment to talk about the culture at Oregon and how it has effected the roster. Everyone has seen that Lanning and the staff he has built can go out and get top talent. But in the modern era of college athletics, being an elite recruiter is about more than just gathering great players. You have to continuously recruit your own players to stay in the program. While Oregon certainly had its share of players enter the transfer portal in December, part of that was to make room for the top 5 class coming in. More impressive perhaps, than what is coming in, is how much Dan Lanning has convinced to stay. There are 16 draft-eligible players from the 2023 roster currently expected back in college uniforms for 2024. That kind of commitment to the team is rare. But as we saw Bucky Irving and Bo Nix suit up for the Fiesta Bowl despite both heading for the draft this year, Dan Lanning has built a culture where people put the team ahead of themselves. Here is some of the talent Oregon looks to have back: Oregon Football: Keeping the Talent in Eugene WWW.ADDICTEDTOQUACK.COM Building a winning program means gathering all the talent you can.... and keeping it.
  2. Zachary Neal confirms that Lanning was not in Alabama yesterday. Who are the most likely candidates to replace Nick Saban at Alabama? Much of the drama since his departure has been about who would end up replacing Saban down in Tuscaloosa. Fans of the Oregon Ducks are well aware of this, as head coach Dan Lanning has been considered one of the top candidates since the news broke. The ensuing hours saw the rumor mill go wild, with false reports on Wednesday showing that Lanning was in Tuscaloosa already, causing quite a stir in Eugene. While I can confirm that Lanning was not in Alabama, that doesn’t mean he is 100% not taking the job, though I believe he will ultimately stay in Eugene. Who will be the next head coach of the Crimson Tide, though? That’s a good question. Lets break down the top options, and assign hypothetical betting odds for how likely I think that candidate is to actually take over in Tuscaloosa. Dan Lanning: Hypothetical Odds: +600 Current Job: Oregon Ducks HC Analysis: Alright, let’s talk about Dan Lanning. My hypothetical odds for Oregon’s head coach to leave for Alabama are likely a lot lower than many people would project, but it’s because I feel confident based on who I’ve talked to in and around the Ducks’ program that he won’t be leaving Eugene for Tuscaloosa. With his ties to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide,it would make sense that he is considered the leading candidate for the job, but based on intel that I’ve received, I don’t expect Lanning to leave the Ducks and replace Saban. Who are the most likely candidates to replace Nick Saban at Alabama? DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Dan Lanning and Kalen DeBoer lead a short list of top candidates to take over for Nick Saban with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

  4. 5 key players returning for the Oregon football offense in 2024 Oregon’s first season under offensive coordinator Will Stein was a rousing statistical success for the Ducks. Those 12 wins looked pretty good as well. With NFL-bound upperclassmen like quarterback Bo Nix, running back Bucky Irving and wide receiver Troy Franklin pacing the attack, Oregon led the nation in touchdowns (83), passing touchdowns (49), passing yards per game (346.9) and completion percentage (77.2%). The Ducks were also second nationally in points per game (44.2), total offense per game (531.4 yards) and passing yards, both per game (343.5) and overall (4,857). Despite that, the Oregon offense wasn’t perfect according to Stein, who said part of his offseason will be spent taking a hard look at how the team performed in 2023. “We’ll obviously look at deficiencies in the offense and where that was," he said. "We’ll have wrinkles next year. What those are, I don’t know yet. I have to decompress from the season and then dive into the tape and our self-scout and really look and what we were good at.” Stein will have a new quarterback in 2024, as Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel is the projected replacement for Nix, and will need to find a new starter at wide receiver and running back, as well as depth at each position. “It's a players' game, and we have exceptional players that prepare like pros and who practice their tails off,” Stein said. "They're a joy to coach. They're a joy to be around.” Here are five key players who are returning on offense for the Ducks in 2024. 5 key players returning for the Oregon football offense in 2024 WWW.REGISTERGUARD.COM Oregon football had one of the best offenses in the nation in 2023. 5. Way-too-early power rankings for new expanded Big Ten Conference in 2024 The 2023 college football season has officially come to an end, which means that the past several days have been spent prematurely looking ahead to the 2024 season and what it might bring. What it will bring is a completely new era of college football, where conference realignment will see the death of the Power 5 conferences, and an expanded College Football Playoff will allow teams to compete for a championship when all is said and done. As the week has gone on, we’ve looked at ESPN’s way-too-early Top 25 rankings, and we also made some predictions of our own, projecting which 12 teams will ultimately make it into the first expanded playoff. Now we want to look at the predictions, conference-specific. The Oregon Ducks, along with USC, UCLA, and Washington, will be joining the Big Ten Conference, where they will now compete with the likes of Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State for a conference title. With the transfer portal still churning, and recruiting classes yet to be completely finalized, it’s a bit too early to get a perfect look at roster construction for each school, but at this moment in time, here are our power rankings for the 2024 season in the Big Ten: Way-too-early power rankings for expanded Big Ten Conference in 2024 DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM An early look at what the power rankings should be for the new expanded Big Ten Conference at the start of the 2024 offseason.

Reports: Oregon HC Dan Lanning a 'top target' for Alabama HC vacancy 247SPORTS.COM Brett McMurphy of Action Network reported Dan Lanning is a 'top target' for the Alabama head coach opening. Remember Dan Lanning said this last time: "I'm not going anywhere. There's zero chance I would be coaching somewhere else. I've got unfinished business here. My No. 1 priority is being elite here at Oregon." There will be no shortage of coaching rumors for the Alabama position, but Lanning, a young up-and-coming coach with a direct background to Saban, will be at the forefront. I heard DeBoer and Dabo along with Sarkisian being on the short list. I am going to be a firm believer in Dan Lanning being true to his word.

  14. N'Faly Dante nearing return for Ducks after ramping up in practice Dante could make his reappearance as early as Saturday in Oregon’s game against the California Golden Bears, who are in last place in the Pac-12. Cal does have a 7-footer on their roster, which could give Dante a good matchup for his return. If he doesn’t come back against Cal, his next opportunity is the Ducks game against the Colorado Buffaloes on Thursday, January 18th, in Boulder, which is setting up to be one of the biggest games of the year up to this point. 16. There are no more games to be played in the 2023 college football season, with the Michigan Wolverines winning the finale against the Washington Huskies, 34-13, to seal the national championship on Monday night. That means at long last, we have a definitive look at who the best teams in the nation were, with no more games to base opinions off of. While the Oregon Ducks ended just short of a spot in the College Football Playoff, they were able to win their final game of the year and take home the title of Fiesta Bowl champions after dismantling the Liberty Flames in the desert. Now, with the final Associated Press poll released on Monday night, Dan Lanning and his team land at No. 6 in the nation, tied with the Florida State Seminoles. 18. Oregon hosts former UTSA cornerback Kam Alexander for visit Ducks Wire can now confirm previous reports that the Oregon Ducks hosted former UTSA Roadrunners cornerback Kam Alexander on a recruiting visit over the weekend. The initial report came from On3, and since has been confirmed by sources with knowledge of the situation. Alexander played a single season at UTSA after transferring from Sam Houston. At UTSA, he racked up 34 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 2 INTs, and 15 PBUs in 13 games. He entered the transfer portal in late December and has been taking a handful of visits since then. Alexander has one year of eligibility remaining thanks to a redshirt season in 2022. The Ducks lost starting CB Khyree Jackson to the NFL Draft this offseason, so they are looking at potential replacements in the transfer portal to add to an already talented group of young defensive backs on the roster. 20. After missing the first seven weeks of the season with a lower leg injury, Jacobs returned in week eight of the 2023 season against Washington State, where he recorded six tackles with a tackle for loss and one sack. Jacobs split time with Jamal Hill for the final eight games of the season, lining up at the MAC linebacker spot opposite Bassa. Overall, Jacobs finished with 32 tackles, with a season-high of eight against Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game. After transferring from Iowa in the offseason, Jacobs was seen as a likely starter opposite of Bassa until he was injured in fall camp. Hill was the starter in Oregon's Fiesta Bowl victory but Jacobs started five of the final six games of the season. Jacobs finished the year with 286 snaps on the defense, averaging 36 snaps per game.
