4-star IOL announces July commitment date; Ducks currently lead

The schedule for July is quickly filling up for the Oregon Ducks, with another highly-rated prospect announcing that he will make his commitment public later this month.

On Sunday afternoon, 4-star IOL Preston Taumua announced on his Instagram that he would be making his announcement on July 16, choosing between the Oregon Ducks, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Arizona Wildcats.

Tuamua recently took his official visit to Oregon in June, and is heavily favored to come to Eugene, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Who’s Next at EDGE for Oregon?

Oregon recruiting was dealt a significant blow on the recruiting trail on Thursday as 2024 Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic edge rusher Elijah Rushing committed to the Arizona Wildcats, spurning the Ducks after they had long been considered the favorites for his commitment.

Oregon would be smart to stay involved and continue recruiting Rushing until signing day and I fully expect that to be the case. With Rushing electing to stay home and play for Jedd Fisch, Oregon is still looking for a difference maker that can get after the quarterback.

Read Below to find those players on Oregon's radar.

Commitment Preview: Decision Time For Dylan Williams

03aa2234-66b4-4e36-ac3c-e2ba4c13daa3

We're less than 24 hours away from the college commitment of Dylan Williams.

The 2024 Long Beach (Calif.) Poly linebacker will make his decision on Friday at around 1:30 pm PT on the Rivals YouTube channel.

He'll choose from a top five of Michigan State, Oregon, Miami, UCLA and Washington.

Here's the latest that I'm hearing on Williams as we close in on his announcement. He may be working from a top five, but for my money this is down to Oregon and Michigan State. And from what I'm hearing it's a VERY close battle.

I made my predictionfor Oregon back on June 22. I'm not ready to change my pick, but I'll say I'm not feeling as confident as I did when I wrote that piece after seeing all this smoke around Michigan State. Maybe that's all it is. Smoke. But either way I can tell you the Spartans are contenders.

It's also worth noting that 247 national analyst Greg Biggins logged a prediction for Oregon on Thursday.

Furthermore, Oregon linebacker target Kamar Mothudi is going to making his college commitment on July 11. He took an official visits to both Oregon and Michigan State as well and the Spartans are making a strong push for him.

Mothudi and Williams are good friends and both play their 7on7 ball with Premium Sports in the Los Angeles area, so I think the idea of teaming up again in college has some appeal to both players. That said, I've felt very good about where Oregon stands with Mothudi for a long time.

Michigan State has made a strong push for both of these guys, but the question is: is it too little too late? Or did they enter the mix at just the right time?

One of the West's top prospects in the 2024 class has set his announcement date.

Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt has finalized that he will announce his decision in September.

One of the elite throwers in the country, he won the javelin at USA Track Nationals and is the two-time state champion in the shot-put, Platt plans to do both football and track in college.

"I want to commit on September 4th for my mom's birthday," Platt told 247Sports.

PREDICTION: Oregon Ducks to Land 2024 Linebacker

Oregon is off to a hot start on the recruiting trail in July, landing commitments from linebackers Dylan Williams and Kamar Mothudi in addition to offensive tackle JacQawn McRoy.

Today I'm logging a prediction for 2024 Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt to commit to Oregon.

For starters, Oregon has been in on Platt for a long time, which carries some weight. Platt narrowed his top schools to two this week and will announce his commitment on September 4 between Oregon and Oklahoma.

Linebacker is a need for the Ducks this cycle, and they'd love to add Platt to the mix in addition to Justin Williams. Right now I'm feeling more confident that they can beat out Oklahoma for Platt than they can Georgia for Williams--who I think will have a spot for as long as he wants it.

The Oregon Ducks were unable to add to their haul of offensive linemen in the class of 2024, missing out on a commitment from 4-star interior OL Preston Taumua on Sunday night.

Taumua, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 11 IOL and No. 207 overall player in the 2024 class, announced that he would be committing to the Nebraska Cornhuskers instead.

Nebraska making a push with Five-Star OL Brandon Baker

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei offensive lineman Brandon Baker has another school in mind for an early season official visit.

Baker is currently rated the No. 21 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite as well as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country.

We had a chance to see him work out over the weekend at the NIL Sports Summer Kick Off and physically, he looked very good. He weighed in at 6-5, 290 pounds with an 83” wingspan and carries his weight extremely well.

He looks lean and has plenty of room to add good weight and he has always been a plus athlete for the position.

Five-star LB and Oregon target Justin Williams announces commitment date

Five-star linebacker and Oregon target Justin Williams announced his commitment date for July 24th.

In the commitment date announcement, Williams released his top four, consisting of Alabama, Texas, Georgia, and Oregon.

For the last month, the recruiting battle has appeared to be an Oregon vs. Georgia matchup, with former Georgia defensive coordinator and now Oregon head coach Dan Lanning battling with Georgia HC Kirby Smart.

An old friend could beat Georgia for five-star LB Justin Williams

Oak Ridge (Texas) linebacker Justin Williams is a big deal as a recruit. As such, it shouldn't be all that surprising that there are plenty of big-time schools after his commitment.

Williams boasts over 30 offers, but he's narrowed his recruitment down to four blue-bloods: Alabama, Texas, Oregon and Georgia.

Ranked as the consensus No. 1 linebacker in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite, Williams is set to announce his decision on July 24. He even further narrowed his list down to Oregon and Georgia in a conversation with On3, which means that the defending back-to-back national champions are in a fight with the Nike-backed Ducks of Eugene.

4-star WR Gatlin Bair sets commitment date; Oregon Ducks among finalists

The Oregon Ducks wide receiver room in the 2024 class is already looking pretty solid with a trio of commitments, but there is a chance that it could get a lot better going forward.

4-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair announced on Thursday that he has set his commitment date, which will come on August 5.

Bair, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 9 WR and No. 35 overall player in the 2024 class, is down to a final group of schools that includes the Ducks, Michigan, Nebraska, Boise State, and TCU.

While there are currently no Crystal Ball Predictions on 247Sports, it is the Wolverines who hold a significant lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Michigan currently has a 71.9% chance to land Bair, according to On3, while the Ducks are in second place at 9.2%.

We will see on August 5 if the Ducks can add the 4-star recruit or not. Once Bair commits to whichever school he chooses, there is an expectation that he goes on his mission, so it is unlikely that he will return to play football in 2024.

Commitment Preview: Nation's No. 1 LB Justin Williams Set to Announce College Decision

Oregon's top linebacker target in the 2024 class is set to come off the board this week.

Conroe (Tex.) Oak Ridge linebacker Justin Williams has seen a pretty significant rise on the recruiting trail since last season.

The former safety turned backer had a strong junior year and has excelled on the camp circuit, leading him to a five-star (0.9952) rating on the 247Sports Composite and the title of No. 1 linebacker in the 2024 class.

The No. 3 recruit in the Lone Star State is set to commit on Monday July 24 and will choose from a loaded top group featuring Oregon, Texas, Georgia and Alabama.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound backer took official visits to Oregon and Georgia this summer, but what are Oregon's chances heading into a decision?

At various times the Ducks have surged for Williams. In fact, I've written multiple times that I believed they were in a position to land a commitment in the fall, but that never came to fruition.

Williams has taken no less than five trips to Eugene during his recruitment, so there's clear mutual interest. Dan Lanning's chances with the coveted backer looked like they might surge even more when Oregon offered and recruited his teammate, Conroe (Tex.) Oak Ridge defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye.

WOW! Coast to Coast DL has Oregon on the recruiting radar. Nice to have an A+ grade to date ahead of the Trojans but what about Stanford with an A+! New Cardinal HC Taylor is on the ball; I think Shaw mailed it in the 3 seasons before he retired.

Thanks, PA for all of the great information. It would be fun to renew a true rivalry with Stanford. The LA schools leaving town have not seemed to hurt Pac recruiting to date. Chip? The same old Chip when it comes to recruiting. Yesterday, Coach Whittingham said the loss of the LA schools leaving has yet to be determined. So far, so good although Utah to date is again struggling in bringing quality players to Salt Lake City.

Deion is a portal magnet but so far when it comes to P5 recruiting not so much.

Four-star RB Nate Frazier locks in commitment date

Frazier, one of the top backs in the country, is set to make his college choice on August 6 at 12:00 PM (PT). Frazier will announce at Mater Dei high school.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Frazier is 247Sports' No. 143 overall prospect, No. 10 running back and No. 16 player in California.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite slots him as the No. 51 national recruit, No. 4 running back and No. 4 player out of the Golden State.

Top 10 2024 Player, DL David Stone puts Oregon in top six schools

While college coaches are already starting to take a glance at players in the class of 2025, some of the best players in the class of 2024 are still undecided — or at least unannounced — on where they will play their college football. One of the best examples of this is defensive lineman David Stone.

Rated as a 5-star recruit by 247 Sports (as well as other outlets) Stone is one of the top 10 players in his class and will likely have an immediate impact wherever he goes. At 6′ 4″ and 270 lbs, Stone already has a frame that should startle opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks.

Stone has set his commitment date for August 26th, which is now less than a month away, and the anticipation is building across the college football world.

From Oregon’s perspective, the addition of Stone would be perfect. Obviously, any program would vivaciously welcome a top ten player to their program, but with one of the country’s best pass rushers in Brandon Dorlus likely moving on after the 2023 season, the addition of David Stone would immediately fill a hole in the Ducks’ defense.

Sione Laulea III, Nation's No.  1 JUCO Prospect, Names Top Five Schools

One of Oregon's top cornerback targets in the 2024 class has trimmed his list of suitors.

Another one of the nation's premier college football recruits is nearing a decision.

On Monday, San Mateo (Calif.) College of San Mateo cornerback Sione Laulea III announced his top five schools.

The group consisted of Miami, Oregon, Oklahoma, Penn State and USC.

Laulea is listed at 6'4", 185 pounds and is ranked the No. 1 junior college prospect in the country by 247Sports. He has 18 reported scholarship offers and told Ducks Digest earlier this summer that he could make his decision "towards August", following his final official visit to Oregon.

Oregon Isn't Slowing Down in Pursuit of USC Commit Dakoda Fields

Southern California has always been a fertile recruiting ground for college football's elite.

Year after year top recruits ink their commitments with schools like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon--just to name a few.

Oregon has been prioritizing Southern California, and dominating on the recruiting trail in recent cycles. But "lost" a key recruiting battle early on in the 2024 cycle when Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Dakoda Fields committed to USC back in June.

But that recruitment is far from over, and that was obvious when Fields, an elite 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back, popped up in Eugene last week for Oregon's Saturday Night Live Camp.
