Georgia's Astounding Success with 3-Stars Who Become STARTERS for Their 'Nattys

Recommended Posts

We all know of how well Georgia recruits the four and five-star players, but they have done an incredible job evaluating talent and finding big upside in 3-Star players. The majority of their two and three-star players have later become starters?  Whew!

Below is a quick article with some astounding facts, and I would like to think that Dan Lanning is on that path as well.

In addition to consistently landing top recruits, Kirby Smart and his staff continue to do a great job from an evaluation standpoint and finding some diamonds in the rough.

In the end...it takes great evaluation, and then player development--regardless of the number of stars.

Never a Dawg Day Afternoon.

Seems like everyone on the UGA roster is well coached up.

Seriously, think about the beevs going 10-3 with very few 4* at all.  Chip Kelly years our 4/5 ratio was very low.  Great position coaches and coordinators for many years from Brooks to Bellotti to Chip to Helf.  Now you see Lanning and company landing 3* they want, getting elevated to 4* after the recruiting  guru's see them in a few camps.  These coaches have the eye for talent, and the coaching part is the final key.  I think they have it!

Thanks Charles for the kudos on staff evaluations over mere star ratings. Those of us who carefully follow Georgia recruiting have been amazed about how quick Kirby offers  3-stars and passes on higher rated players because the staff evaluates the 3-star as the better player with a higher upside. Not only have several of these kids become starters on an elite squad, but several have become first-round NFL draft choices as well.

A while back a thread was posted showing that Georgia has a bigger recruiting budget than any other Power-5 school. I noted earlier at this is because the staff travels to scout more prospects than anyone else and that scouting so widely helps them to uncover the hidden gems out there. Its a great approach IMHO if you can afford it.
