College Football Week 1 - Place Your Bets!

Recommended Posts

Remember that all LOCKS, bets, and otherwise, can be broken. The below games are the Week 1 games I have bet on. Never bet quid in an amount that could flip your financial lid!

Week 0 Recap - Off to a good start with the Over 66 on the USC/San Jose State game. This was like stealing.

Week 1 -

FLORIDA +6.5 at #14 UTAH. Florida is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 road games. Cam and his favorite receiver, Brent Kuithe, may not see the field.

I like the Gators to cover and the game to go Over 44 points. Even if C and K cannot play, 44 is an extremely low total for modern-day college football

BOISE STATE at #10 UW - I like the Over 58.5 points. Penix is the real deal with a terrific WR room. Boise QB, Taylon Green, 2022 2nd team all-frosh and 2022 Frisco Bowl MVP, is back for an Andy Avalos team that stumbled out of the gate in 2022 but finished strong once Green became the starter.

The Huskie D backs in 2022 were an ATC out-of-control Please Fly Zone. I do not think the Husky CBs and Safties will be much improved in 2023.

BALL STATE at KENTUCKY - Over 48. OC Liam Cohen is back and I think he will do good things with QB Devin Leary who transferred in from NC State.

LOCK BET - NEVADA at USC - 66 points, again! Thank you, Sir, can I have another. Over 66 all day long.

Summary -

Nevada at USC -  Over 66

Ball State at Kentucky - Over 48.

Boise State at UW - Over 58.5

Florida +6.5 at Utah. Florida covers the 6.5 spread and the game goes over 44.

Best of luck. And if it goes South, please don't blame the messenger.

😍

Florida has moved to +7. I waited on this to see if the line would move depending on the Rising scuttlebutt. Still not certain Cam will play but the extra .5 is nice.

Pac-12 Betting Guide: Spread and Moneyline Picks for Week 1

The college football season is upon us which means there is money to be won — or as it usually is in my case: money to be lost. Sports betting is estimated to be a 90-plus billion dollar industry as recently as 2022 and in many states, college football is part of the fun.

Below are all the games available to bet on for Week One in the Pac-12. Some games — like Oregon v. Portland State — aren’t included in sportsbooks, presumably because one of the schools isn’t in NCAA Division I.

For each game, I list the odds as they are currently listed on FanDuel or BetMGM for both spread and moneyline bets, along with some of my thoughts.

I want to note that I make very few moneyline picks in this post because most of the matchups this week are out-of-conference, and therefore more likely to be lopsided affairs. Once we get into conference play and closer games, I’ll pick the moneyline.

Lastly, I want to preface that I’m no gambling expert and while I do believe in the suggestions I make below, take them with a grain of salt, and don’t bet your life savings on Coastal Carolina...

Heading into Week 1, @dwyermiles15 makes his Pac-12 picks against the spread. Beware, there are some massive spreads on...

Gentleman's bet Jon: Florida does not cover. In fact, Utah wins, even if it takes O.T.  (Why not go out on a shaky limb to start the 2023 season?)

I don't about the gentleman but I'll take the bet. It's so hard to call this game if Barnes starts at QB for the Utes.

I like the Over regardless.

Yes, gentlemen might be a stretch, esp. me.  But I think the Utah elevation, time zone, fan atmosphere and last year's bad taste left in the mouth of the Utes fuel a vigor they'll bring to the field.  Talent-wise it's almost a push and Utah always surprises teams that don't see them often.  However, in listening in on the recent Whittingham interview it sounds like the Utes might have some injury issues.  Otherwise, I'd not expect Florida to come out of Utah a winner.  It'll be a fun one to watch.  The bet's on...

Ohhh, I should have done my homework, Jon.  I didn't think Cam Rising wouldn't be able to go tonight.  You may very well be right about Florida not only covering, but maybe even better.  I'm not pulling back from my gentleman's (ahem) bet, but I'm definitely less confident than I was a few hours ago.  Mertz is pretty mercurial as a QB.  Utah will need to make him throw more picks and lose his confidence while finding another QB to fill Cam's shoes.  CFB - you gotta love it!

Well, he did get his original $75K back.

But, he must have inherited his money as no one who earns $75K would leverage it to make a $300 profit.

The bets over and my over also went under. Good call Mic.

Down your starting QB, best receiver, starting center, and your play caller on D goes down in the first series. And you win? That's some guts ball.

And Florida? Oh my gosh, the heat is on Billy Napier and the not-so-special teams' coach who allowed two #3s to be on the field at the same time. And Mertz? More sacks than a grocery store checkout line. And folks on Saturday Down Soth were chortling over how much bigger and faster the Gators were compared to the Utes.

These Utes (youts?) are tough to beat in SLC. And Coach Whit, "I hope the rest of the country now knows that we play football out this way." Perfect.

My friend, you're discounting the influence of Uncle Jack Daniels.

I didn't see much speed at all on the Gator side of the ball.  Utah's a power team more than a finesse team, choosing to just beat teams up while tossing in a bit of speed and trickery here and there.  I also thought both teams looked sluggish but it was the first game of the season.  Lastly, I can understand why Florida wasn't ranked coming in to the game.  They may be in for a long season.  Very happy Utah won despite a lousy 2nd Half (Offense-wise).

The last time Florida scored a total of 14 points or fewer in back to back games was 1988.  OSU and Utah did that between the Vegas Bowl and last night.  1988 happened to be the last time Florida was shut out.

Barnes was on the Money (yuck, yuck) on that 1st pass attempt.

Passing the hat in Gainesville to buy out Napier's contract.
