Oregon is the Most Unlikely No. 1...

First in the conference at the moment...can they hold it?  And who would have thought it six weeks ago?

Great time for Dante and Bittle to come back. Will compliment the outstanding team playing that's been going on! This year could be special.

Will N'Faly Dante play against Cal tonight? Latest Oregon injury updates

AUTZENZOO.COM

Ducks’ center N’Faly Dante has been out of commission since the start of the season. Will he make his return tonight?

It's very impressive what these guys have done so far, especially with the injuries they've had to deal with. Plus, going 2-0 last week in two close games on the road against a couple decent Washington schools, is highly impressive.

Maybe the powers-that-be might even grace us this week with a Top-25 ranking this week.

Or the change of tempo/style may actually clash-crash rather than mesh. I haven't been keenly following the b-ball team, but how many of those wins have come from tier 1/2 programs?

Next week will be a big tell. Utah/Colorado may be a better measure of the quality for our mesh/crash possibility. Before seeing Arizona later...

I'm thankful that some Duck fans have been tracking the b-ball team. Football has been quite captivating for an off-season.

Chemistry.  Chemistry. Chemistry.  Tonight's game will give a us a glimpse of the integration of a dominant post player into the smallball guard lineup that Oregon has had significant success with.

California, with their seven footer, will be a good team to make that adjustment to.  Don't expect Dante to see a full set of minutes, but how Oregon moves the ball through him will give a good indication of that integration.  Hopefully play has been going well in practice.

We need to win the boards tonight and not have a drop off in three point and free throw percentage.  Look smooth winning this game and I like our chances on closing out January strong, in a tough trip to the mountain schools followed up by a home stand against the desert teams, all positioned in the top half of the conference.

Let's see if those final cubes will align properly and then we will talk about February, the traditional time period that the "aligned" Altman Rubik's Cube is released upon the conference.

GO! 🦆🏀👍

It may actually hurt this team by slowing it down.

That being said it can’t hurt the rebounding which could lead to more fast break points and less put backs by apposing bigs.

We, as others have posted, will get a better meausure of the team when they start playing the top half of the conference.

Fun start for the team and fans, for sure.

The Cougar football team started 4-0 in 2023. How did that turn out when the competition improved?

Go Ducks......

I'm pretty sure that nobody is expecting them to win the tourney this year, but when you have two of your bigs out with injuries, and yet you can still put together a good early season record, it is encouraging.

And those two wins last week against the Washington schools on the road, is nothing to shake a stick at.

Any road wins, in any conference are big victories.  And i to am encouraged and hopeful.

If and when the bigs return the options for DA really expand. They provide multiple complications for the Ducks opponents.

Best part for me is the team has energy and is playing with effort.

Go Ducks.......

Great points from those better equipped to assess the Ducks prospects going forward. Thanks so for the sane assessments. Grateful Duck in Renton (I can hear the Huskies howling from Montlake. Music to the ears!!!)

Right on, Micro.

Altman really wants to see if his team can switch back and forth between a quicker, small-ball line-up (their current flavor by default) and a 4-wing/1-big line-up (or if needed, 2 bigs).  This versatility could make a big difference as they get ready to make a tournament run.

Dante, as he comes back, will almost certainly be on a minutes restriction, at least until he gets his conditioning back.  But it sounds like he can play at beast-mode for at least 5-7 minutes at a stretch already, in practice . . . very encouraging.

Horrible start to the game so far, bad shot selection, bad defense, down double digits to Cal at home!!!!????  Come on guys, get it together, toughen up, don't settle for 3s, and get after it on D.

Now down 18 to a 6-10 team, embarrassing performance, Cal looks like they are the only ones who came to work, we aren't fighting through screens, little communication, terrible ball movement on offense, just a horrible perfomance.

Great response, get down by 18 the last couple years and Oregon would have folded, this year you can see they believe, started playing harder on D, made Cal take some contested shots, on offense they got a couple baskets inside, then went inside out with some open threes in rhythm, and all of a sudden it's now a 4 point game.

It's going to take some time to get Dante into the flow of things, we have to play with the same ball movement and rhythm that they've had in this nice stretch, they can't get bogged down by dumping into the big man every time, they need to feed him, but not at the expense of movement.

Great game tonight with Oregon coming back from 18 down to win by 7.  Used a lot of different guys tonight and showed that they have great depth on the bench.
