Wisconsin hiring ex-USC DC Alex Grinch: Sources THEATHLETIC.COM After Colin Hitschler left for Alabama, Wisconsin is expected to hire former USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch as safeties coach. I think he'll do just fine. It doesn't look like he is the DC but just a position coach and he has had success at other stops. I don't think he is a top DC by any stretch but I think he had a bigger problem in that he worked for Riley who doesn't care about defense. I've been thinking the same thing. It is also possible that Riley is young enough to teach himself a new trick by putting equal emphasis on O and D, after being read the riot act by the AD. Jon Joseph Author No. 7 Share Posted January 26 Riley? Maybe part of the problem but the SC D in 2023 was an uncoordinated every man for himself fire drill. The OK D under Riley and Grinch didn't look much better. Perhaps it's easier to coach up 2* and 3* recruits than 4* and 5* recruits?
