HDuck No. 4 Share Posted February 9 Well, since the Pac2 could have 2 people in these positions, the question maybe should be why 2 out of 4 came from WSU, and none from Beavis? "...any CFP decisions require unanimous approval through the 2025 season playoff and Schulz since December has been unwilling to grant his vote until WSU and OSU’s concerns are addressed.." So, if the WSU folks ask for too much, then everybody else just sits on the current situation for 2 years, and after that tells them to put their "influence" where the sun don't shine, because everything starts new after the 2025 season including participation in the Playoff organization. And, if the SEC and B1G are unhappy with what the Pac2 demands now which prevents them from moving forward with changes now, they will have very long memories. CalBear95 No. 5 Share Posted February 9 (edited) Probably a way to say ‘see, we tried to include everyone but couldn’t come to a consensus’ when in 2 years they create a structure that cuts the little conferences out. Were I the Big2, I would push to do away with automatic bids all together. You think the B10 and SEC champs *aren’t* getting a bid? the G5 bid just steals one from a more deserving team so why enable that (I know it’s for anti-competitive optics but still). It also allows for the argument that the CFP is a meritocracy and not an exclusive monopoly by the power conferences The B12 would fight it of course but I like the 12 best philosophy. Drake Moderator No. 6 Share Posted February 9 All committee members probably have some bias. Utah, Baylor, and Michigan were represented on the selection committee, at least last year. The expanded playoff eliminates some controversy. The seeding of some teams will probably always bring some issues. Teams 13, and 14 might also get ruffled. Not that they have a chance to win, but some pretty big money is involved. Overall, if we are going to name a Champion, this seems like an improvement, but there will always be some chaos every year. Every member of these committees have loyalties to come program out there and in those situations they recuse themselves. I know Mullens was the head of the CFP for a year or two in there and he would leave the room if/when Oregon was being talked about. If someone one these committees shows anti-insert team here bias they are not all powerful and can't block a school on their own. Remember that any undefeated or one loss team is basically guaranteed to get into the new playoff. It's the 2-loss teams that are difficult to judge. This year the likely starter is a transfer from Idaho. They're in for a more challenging season then the fan base thinks. Duckley Palace No. 11 Share Posted February 10 We all know where the real power lies, don't we? If Chun and Schultz want to play hardball, they'll get frozen out. There aren't any concrete rules. Washington State and Oregon State have no leverage. If they want to have any sort of avenue to the playoffs as MWC members, they'll play ball. If not, the G5 might get frozen out entirely. A rich guy once told me "The rules are dictated by cash. The richer you are, the less they apply to you." The Big Ten/SEC group are Rupert Murdoch, and Steve Bezos.
