FishDuck Article Administrator No. 1 Share Posted September 2 Our Oregon Ducks football program had a TOUGH outing this past Saturday. While the offense was able to rack up 41 completions thanks to Dillon Gabriel, there were some massive holes that derailed what should have been a near-shutout performance. Jon Joseph Moderator No. 2 Share Posted September 2 Regroup? Not the B1G from top to bottom including most definitely, USC. 17-1 in B1G Week 1 games. Could and should have been 18-0 but for two FG misses by Minnesota's usually reliable kicker. 1-0 vs. the SEC with USC's thrilling win over LSU last night as LSU came up snake eyes on its last two trips West; one versus UCLA and last night in Las Vegas. A huge win for Lincoln Riley. The defense gave a lot of yards but mostly passing yards. What a difference a change new coaches on the D side of the ball make in SC's toughness including tackling. Oregon lost its 30-plus points per game scoring streak but won the game. LSU was held to 20 points notwithstanding putting up over 400 yards of offense. Say It Ain't So Pawl! The Ducks will regroup. USC is now a contender for the B1G title. No Oregon and no Ohio State and other than at Michigan which now appears to be a winnable game for Troy, all of SC's biggest B1G games are in LA. The Ducks win against Idaho by season's end will be just that, a win. SC's win over an SEC team will reverberate into December and could be meaningful if it comes down to B1G vs. SEC for a Playoff spot. Thanks, Alex for the terrific article. You don't play your best and win; well, plenty of teams this season will not play their best and take the L. OBD vs USC in Indy? Bust the Broncos! It was a much better game than ND and aTm the night before! I don’t think I’d be packing my bags for Indy just yet were I a USC fan but they played well. I thought their defense looked much better, Lynn already making strides. LSU loses their 5th straight opener, I think. Not a good look for BK, especially at the post game presser. Not a good look at all!
Steven A Moderator No. 4 Share Posted September 2 Thanks Alex. I'm wondering if Bo's height vs Dillion's might have been a factor. Bo might have had more vison and avoided some of the sacks.
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 5 Share Posted September 2 Our All-American Tackles had a bad day... --Perhaps they were overworked prior and came in with heavy legs? --They had been believing their press clippings? I think we will see a big bounce-back from them, and the O-Line play will improve enormously. Unlike some who think it is a permanent problem--I do not at all. All these guys have done it before and proven themselves, so it is not like they cannot do it. Get Bedford back and things go to normal, IMHO. 30Duck No. 6 Share Posted September 2 Watching USC beat LSU was scary. The score was close throughout, but SC was in control the whole game. Putting even a competent defense along with SC's perennial high-powered offense makes USC a true contender for the BIG Championship, the Trojans don't play either the Buckeyes or the Ducks. As for the Ducks? The O Line controls every, if it isn't working, nothing else will either. It's incredible that Gabriel was able to put up the stats he did, imagine what he will be able to do with time to throw. It would be too depressing to look back to find a worse day for the running game, suffice it to say that if that happens again, the Ducks won't win. USC has more talent at receiver than we do, and looked very tough on defense. Holding any SEC team to 20 points is pretty darn good for any defense. This was a "good-or-good" game. If USC wins, then it is good for the B1G. If USC loses...I see no problem with that! Mr. FishDuck
Solar No. 8 Share Posted September 2 It all starts up front on offense as yesterday clearly illustrated. If you mentioned any of the OL players I would not disagree. Other than that, I would pick Tyler Turner, if we assume he isn't bench warming the next game. The only time I was aware he was in the game is when he got that critical pass interference and the time he got trucked by a blocker allowing the RB to run free on the outside for 40 yards. Honestly though, I expect Flowers to play in place of Turner next week, rotating in with #0.

They are proven players and will clean up the penalties. I’m more concerned with the interior offensive line and Oregon’s inability to replace one starter. Where is the depth? kirklandduck Moderator No. 11 Share Posted September 2 I don't have anything else to add that others haven't mentioned already (which we all know is the OL). All I want to see out of that line is consistency and fewer mistakes next weekend.
