BIG & SEC Dominate the Top 10. They Should Have Even More.

Recommended Posts

Early in the article, the writer says, the BIG and SEC are monopolizing the rankings like never before. Usually, I agree with this sentiment, but not this time.  He notes that Oregon's No.9 is a bit high, SC at 11, a bit high, but Miami at 8, is too low! Clearly, he was caught in a hurricane and being pelted by coconuts when he wrote this.

Georgia was more impressive in its win over Kentucky, than Miami has been in any of its wins. Same with Nebraska and Indiana and Illinois.

The east coast and SEC bias are issues we on the "left" coast put up with every year.

All we can do is keep winning. There are at least 6 remaining games against teams that should finish season above .500, they should help our cause.

Early season rankings just show their bias and mean little.

Unless someone above us loses, don't be surprised if we fall 1 or 2 spots after the bye. Especially if Purdue beats the Beavers.

I agree generally about early season rankings. Except you're right, Oregon State losing to Purdue probably would hurt Oregon. Miami will play better teams than they've played so far, but L's are unlikely. Because they are being so lauded now if they do somehow lose it will be a slight drop.

The fascination with Miami is all about Cam Ward. If the U had the QB from last year, they'd have the same record as they do now, Oregon State would be undefeated if they had played Miam's schedule, but they would still be ranked in the 'teens in the poll.

But the brand new QB transfer has all the pollsters excited. My hesitancy to think Mario can keep this going is countered by just how soft Miami's schedule is.

Miami will be punished if they lose a game in their soft schedule, just like ND was.    Knowing MariNo, he will find a way to give away a game or two later in the season by not kneeling or something brilliant, just in time to get them dropped out of the PO.

As of today, Miami has one ranked opponent on the regular season schedule, No. 19 Louisville. The P4 opponent, Florida, stinks. The U will have to screw Up not to make the conference champ game likely vs. Clemson a team with similar roster strength.

Ole Miss has also been blowing out donut holes but Ole Miss plays Georgia, at LSU, and Oklahoma.

These mega-conferences are creating a significant variance in the strength of schedules.

To date, Miami should not be ranked above 2-0 USC. 3-0 Oregon despite the struggles has a better win, Boise State, than Miami.

They shouldn't be ranked above Nebraska, who also has a shiny new QB.

Hate to say it, but a close Purdue/Beavitch score would likely help the Duck ranking.
