I certainly did not realize John Robinson was ever Duck. As for the notable USC football coaches, Robinson was the one I liked best although I sometimes chuckled at John Mckay's sarcastic wit that often got under opponents' skin (particularly Notre Dame).

Victim of OBD'S  lack of vision inputting the Jerry Frei led program in the 1970's. Frei's tree produced multiple generational football coaches who were OBD assistants first.

Who knows what could have been, with the right investment and vision?

John McKay was also a duck assistant before USC.  The power of Casanova must have been great.

McKay, Madden, Robinson and even Seifert were part of a pretty amazing group of coaches, at that time, who came out of Oregon. Makes on wonder if we are seeing another group of coaches our younger Duck fans will ponder in the coming decades.

Fortunately the truly great coach is our head coach this time!

John McKay also played for Oregon from 1947-1949.

So did John Robinson and his friend John Madden (briefly).

For anyone who had a chance to see John Robinson coach, what made his teams and him as a coach unique and good (besides the talent)?

John Robinson won big. He won a lot of Rose Bowls. He was a great USC head football coach for all the obvious reasons. His legacy, though, is even more specific.
