The Ultimate QB Sleeper Joins Oregon?

Recommended Posts

Mark Wiepert was an all-star Baseball player verballed to Oregon State,

as a catcher, but he blew up at QB at Wilsonville, and is the third QB to sign

for Oregon for 2025.  (He is a Preferred Walk-On, with NIL I assume)

The last guy who walked on and played some HS QB did pretty

well for us!  (Bryce Boettcher)

Seems like we had another local QB who pretty much totally flew under the radar, and barely got offered by Oregon... Justin Herbert.

Rumor has it that he turned out to be reasonably decent 😁

Best of luck to Mark Wiepert.

Well, Herbert was a Rivals 3-Star, so he was recognized, if under-rated at that.  Not a walk-on like Wiepert.

No, definitely not a walk on, but he was offered by Oregon very late. And prior to that, his offers were quite limited... as in I think Montana.

His junior year broken leg took him off most people's radar, plus the fact that he pretty much didn't attend the camps.

Regardless, best of luck to Mr. Wiepert.

Gotta get the best talent in the state to go to Oregon, even as walk-ons.

Keep in mind to that walk-ons provide an important role in that they are often the backbone of the scout team. So maybe Wiepert will never see the field as a player for Oregon but he may contribute and enable Oregon to win many games as a scout team player.

These are positions of need. I do think it is hard to keep some of these high profile players on the scout team for too long as they will want to feel like they are doing the "important" work of taking reps even as a the back-up.

QB and Catcher, high IQ players, leaders, and the guy can just play ball!

I love that Lanning brought him in and got him to come to Oregon. He may never play, become a legend, or just have a role on the team. He did blow up the state championship game, again.

Last year he was the top defensive player of the year as a junior, this year top offensive player. I think he will be making some noise on the Ducks at some point.

Well done Lanning, you have to own Oregon recruiting, and he does!

Duck Baseball Coach Waz might be pretty happy too!
