It is tough to really see him as special when Bo was clearly better than him last year, which is a weird thing to feel and say.

I love Bo but DG is clutch and just wins games. Like Brady or Montana, he might not put up the best stats compared to other QBs but he’s who you want with the ball in his hands when your team needs a critical 1st down or with 2 minutes remaining down a score.

In the past 2 years, DG has beaten: Ohio State, Penn State and Texas (and both our historic rivals). All were top 5 teams when DG faced them.

He reminds me of Mahomes. Not necessarily the flash, but if he needed to do a no look pass, I think he could. But everybody in the stadium knows that if the Chiefs have the ball with time on the clock, they're winning. I feel the same about Gabriel and the Ducks.

All 4 have the goods. 5 PM Pacific Saturday to watch Gabe hopefully win and Danno and Gabe no matter who wins.

There's a great chance a quarterback will not lift the trophy for just the fifth time in the 2000s.

As the Yahoo article states, "Hunter's ability to be a star on both offense and defense is why he's the player most likely to be lifting the award Saturday night."

And yet, with all that talent, on both sides of the ball, Colorado could only get to 9-3, no CPF, not even the conference Championship Game, but great individual stats.

The Athlon article writers stated the following two paragraphs, and I am not sure I could have stated it more succinctly and accurately:

"...the 6th-year senior from Mililani, Hawaii has followed in Marcus' footsteps in another way, as an unselfish leader who makes his entire team better. He's said from the beginning that he doesn't care about individual awards or accolades. Instead, he's chasing relationships, moments, cherishing the people you meet along the way."

"Which is exactly why he deserves the award. Outstanding leadership and winning at the highest level ought to mean more than snap counts. If it doesn't, keep your trophy. The Ducks are still pursuing another one that means infinitely more, driven by connections that mean far more than trophies."

Dillon Gabriel is the best player on the best team, and he has the best attitude as a leader, period. OBDs would not be here - at the Rose Bowl awaiting their opponent without everything DG has brought to the table. An athlete - Yes! But, The Leader!

Great article! Athlon, thank you; but, DG, a Duck fan Thanks You!

Big difference among the players nominated... One appears to be in it for his own aggrandizement, while the others, led by Gabriel, seem to be team first sorts, who are far more interested in TEAM success, than personal awards.

I truly suspect that without Dillon Gabriel, the 2024 Ducks would not have succeeded at the level they have attained.

The rest?

Not so much!

You got that right. Winning the Heisman has been the last thing on Gabriel's mind all season, making the decisions, executing the plays to get his team to 13-0 took priority.

The player I would rather have been nominated for the Heisman, but wasn't, was Tyler Warren. He scared me the whole game!

He also played multiple positions, on a team that made the CFP.

Hard to say...

I read a few places that basically said that he takes a more anti Duck position on purpose to make more intrigue and conversation.

If there is disagreement and multiple perspectives being discussed, even if not all are believed, it does make for better content.

Fentress is kind of like a low-effort Canzano clone with, in my opinion, a miserable outlook towards anything Oregon (except for his bizarre and bordering-on erotic love for that sucky Marshfield coach who ran our program into the ground).

Dillon wins the Chicago Tribune Silver Football. One of just a few QBs to win the trophy!
