Jon Joseph Moderator No. 1 Share Posted December 13 I have expressed my belief that OBD, should it win the Rose Bowl, would have the choice of playing Clemson/ Texas, or ASU, in the Orange Bowl or Cotton Bowl. OBD should have the choice, especially if Texas advances but I cannot confirm this. If the CFB Powers-That-Be mandates that the No.1 seed has to play an 'away game' in Dallas vs. the Longhorns, this will confirm how screwed up and SEC-centric this format is, including seeding and the location of the games. If anyone can nail down where the OBD's 3rd round game will be played it will be much appreciated.
QuackyQuack No. 2 Share Posted December 13 Great question - I have been trying to look into this as well and there is not a lot of concrete details. I did find this on the CFP official website "The highest seed will receive preferential placement for the Playoff Semifinal bowl assignment." So how I read that is the Ducks would be able to choose the location of their game. If it was against Texas I feel they would choose the Orange Bowl due to trying to make it more of a neutral site game. If so, Oregon fans would need to travel twice as far as Texas fans. Talk about skewing odds...I wish they would just make it a home game for the higher seed every year. Steven A Moderator No. 4 Share Posted December 13 I think we are locked into the Cotton Bowl vs winner of ASU/Clemson-Texas. Of course, my thoughts and 2 cents will get you a lifetime subscription to this forum.

Truthfully I would prefer Oregon fans to have to travel a little bit further for the game compared to playing in Texas' backyard. But this will all be irrelevant because the Longhorns are extremely overrated and will have a tough time beating Clemson and ASU. 1
DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 6 Share Posted December 13 Texas fans will travel well no matter what. Oregon doesn’t travel well, so the venue doesn’t really matter unless you factor in that Miami is the rainiest city in the U.S. However, they get it in a huge deluge once per day. I think per capita, Oregon's Travel is probably better than it looks in the stadiums.

Per capita, Oregon is right up there with Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc. Yet, these teams kill us in attendance. I understand Oklahoma and Nebraska. They have one team. Alabama has two teams and Auburn killed us in attendance in the NC game in January 2011.

These days, the Orange Bowl is @30 miles north of Miami. Home stadium for the Dolphins and Mari(o)'s U that is PO MIA. Mari(o) and his minions get to hitch-hike up the road to play in the Mickey Mouse Pop-Tarts game in Orlando. Sweet .

The B1G Championship game was proof that. I just think Duck fans are a bit more mature about their college football fandom compared to traditional brands. For example, when the SEC says “It just means more”, they’re saying that buying Sugar Bowl tickets just means more than buying nutritious food, diapers and toilet paper for a few months. Indy was a lot closer to Penn State by quite some miles. Look at Penn State's alumni base compared to Oregon's? Rather than say we are under-represented for our brand, I prefer to say that we have built our brand WAY beyond our alumni base and fans. Truly punching above our weight class... 1 Mr. FishDuck
DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 13 Share Posted December 14 I disagree. The same thing happens in the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, national championship games, etc. Even home games are an embarrassment. Look at the pictures from the Tennessee game in 2013 or the Nebraska game in 2017. The quotes on social media revolved around the theme that “It’s easy to take over their little stadium“. Say what you want about proportionality, the Ducks need to be built for the road after the regular season.

However, they can make Autzen look like this. And the other half of Autzen was about 30% Husker fans. They were splattered amongst the yellow clad Duck fans. This doesn’t bother Oregon QB’s. This keeps Oregon fans from bothering opposing QB’s.
