This Ranking of the CFP Coaches is Dumb!

Recommended Posts

The title worked for Darren Perkins's article, and I think it fits here to. Overall, the list is okay, it does have all the 8 coaches, and it isn't alphabetical. But where I really disagree is with the 8,7 picks and the 3,2 picks.

There isn’t a College Football Playoff team still watching film that doesn’t have what it takes under the headset. But who's the best?

I know a couple of Ohio State fans at work who would agree with you about 2 and 3. They think he should still be fired even if he wins the championship.

I like Dillingham but I'm not sure he's the 8th best coach. He's done an incredible job and I hate to say but he's in the Big 12 which means his competition this year was actually easier than last year in the Pac-12.

The turnaround is still fantastic and a credit to him. I think we get a better sense of his coaching ability and where his program is when they play Texas and I don't think that game looks pretty.

As for the Boise State head coach... Same sort of thing. He's in the Mountain West.

As for Day... He's good but has some major flaws.

We'll see Day v Lanning part 2 soon enough.... We all know Mad Man Dan will have something cooked up for the Buckeyes. Probably a deeper dive into the playbook but also probably a strange play or two just to make things spicy.

I don't see Day having much like that in store. He's a pretty straightforward coach who will rely on his players to just be better than his opponent's. It works 90% of the time..

Dillingham DID come in last.

GIGO!

One coach out of the remaining 8 in this tournament has a Natty; he has two.

A coach with two Natties lost to a coach who won his first PO game. If you flipped the Clemson and Texas rosters and played the game in Clemson, South Carolina which coach would get the win?

Unless you're an AD looking to hire a coach, why this ranking? What are the bona fides of the person making the ranking?

Did superior coaching result in the four teams winning first-round games? Or did they win because the winning teams had better players, and were playing at home?

Four games. No upsets. Shocking!

BASH BRUTUS!

If it's doing the most with the least, Dillingham is the best. His resources are so bad it's epic, the conference picked his team to finish last, yet by the end of the year he blew out the competition in the CCG.

Oddly enough the closest game in the first round was between Clemson and Texas and that was probably a coaching factor.

But at the end of the day Texas did just have the better players.
