Expanded playoff already diminishing worth of extra data point - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Ohio State did not play for a Big Ten championship and Notre Dame is an independent, but they square off for a national title anyway Go Championship Saturday in all P4 and G5/6 conferences and the Playoff could start one week earlier. Have all teams play on what is now Week 0 and start two weeks earlier in the period. It's ridiculous that am undefeated team would have to play in one, of course it was Oregon. If somehow 2 teams went through undefeated, that's what tiebreakers are for. GatOrlando No. 6 Share Posted January 18 The NFL pretty much destroys it's competition regardless. It's always had Thanksgiving, now it's taken Christmas from the NBA. Roger Goodell needs to have a strong united front come to him and tell him that college football is the feeder system that helps keep the NFL alive. You have Oregon fans paying attention to the Broncos and Chargers. You have LSU fans becoming Bengals fans. Wyoming fans are Bills fans and Louisville fans are Ravens fans this week. But you don't get that without strong college fanbases. Heck you probably know a Washington fan who was rooting for the Falcons and how many of them have ever likely been to Georgia? Klatt was on Cowherd and he spoke on how college football was the number two sport in America to the NFL, but even college football has taken a backseat to the NFL Playoffs. He proposed college football start earlier and have Army vs Navy be the first game in August. I like the strategy: create compelling end of season games for ratings AND another revenue source for the conference. Expand to 14 teams, provide the 3 AQs for the SEC and B1G ( it's going to happen anyways - especially after the House Case settles), and hype it all season ( that will make the regular season more relevant than ever). Will it happen? We'll see. Money has a funny way of creating foggy hubris in decision makers. I am having doubts about whether the House case settles and whether it should settle. As I have inquired before, why doesn't the NCAA file BK? As part of the Plan of Reorganization, the NCAA asks the Federal BK court as part of the settlement for the same antitrust protection Congress provides the NFL. Also, as part of the Plan, include a solution for Title IX issues. The House settlement accomplishes NOTHING but a settlement with the House class of plaintiffs. No other existing suits against the NCAA sounding in antitrust now or in the future are barred. $2 Billion for this? INSANE! This Plan of Reorganization appealed to SCOTUS and affirmed by the Supremes, would be an end run around Congress and its reluctance to give college sports the same protections afforded to NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL multi-billionaires. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
