Until OBD win it on the field (hopefully VERY soon!) it doesn't matter.

This is ridiculous, Oregon was undefeated, unfortunately, it turns out, won the B1G Championship Game, again, unfortunately, but their run for the Natty was stopped abruptly by an osu2, that, it turns out fortunately, didn't go undefeated, and fortunately again, completely missed the B1G Championship Game, and joined the list of 2 loss champions.

In the "olden days" prior to 1968, the AP Final Poll Rankings were before the bowls.

For example, in 1964 Alabama was 10-0, ranked No. 1, then lost to No. 5 Texas in the Orange Bowl, and finished 10-1.  At the same time, No. 2 Arkansas was 10-0, had beaten Texas in Austin in the regular season, then went 11-0 beating No. 6 Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl.

The AP Final Rankings:  No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Arkansas.  If the 1968 and later approach had been in effect Arkansas would have a national championship, and Alabama could boast one less.  Arkansas does not have an AP No. 1 in their program history.

Between the first AP ranking in 1936 and 1967 there were 6 situations like Alabama as I recall.  Another one:  In 1960, Minnesota was No. 1 and lost to No. 6 Washington in the Rose Bowl.  Undefeated (and 1 tie) Ole Miss won the Sugar Bowl.   Minnesota has the 1960 No. 1 ranking.

If UCF can put up a banner for 2017 I would say abythings possible. Major difference is Oregon can actually go win a legitimate one and doesn't need this fruit roll-up tattoo like rinky dink UCF.

I've hated Poll Natty's since the beginning of time. You win? You're in. Playoffs solve the gripe. Win your conference then win the playoffs...period. We didn't win so therefore we are only B1G champions. I'll take that.

Polls like this one that is the subject of this thread represent little more than off-season mental jerking IMHO. Guys, Oregon had a wonderful season and had absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. But let's not be a second coming of UCF and proclaim ourselves as national champions when we didn't win the damn thing. Some Georgia fans did this very thing in 2017 when they lost to Alabama in OT on a blown coverage in the Natty. Alabama did not even win their division or play in the SEC championship game, but they won the big one, so the Dawgs had to be content as SEC champs that year.

Some of the examples above of polls declaring iffy national championships are just ridiculous. Those here who know my inclinations know that I have long argued that what happens between the lines is the only thing that matters. Want a Natty? Then go out and win the damn thing! I suspect very strongly that CDL agrees with this sentiment and preaches this continually to his players, as he should IMHO. Go Ducks!

Amen CFB Brother.  I am ashamed at such nonsense.  Win it on the field or not at all...

(And BTW...I edited your post to make it more family friendly to be in line with our rules.  You're welcome)
