FishDuck Article Administrator No. 1 Share Posted February 12 A good friend of mine is a corporate jet pilot for a major grocery store chain. For years he served as the jet’s captain and enjoyed the money and prestige that came with being a “captain.” He was damn right cool. (Mr. FishDuck took a break from his fun at OneWin because he loved the message in this article) But, ... Smith72 Moderator No. 2 Share Posted February 12 Great article Darren! I love the story of your pilot Captain and your use of it to make your point about coordinators. Excellent writing thank you. I can see Chip smiling every day as he "works" at what he loves!
30Duck Moderator No. 3 Share Posted February 12 Absolutely right Darren, as the saying goes, Chip loves what he's doing, he ain't even working and getting paid millions. OC & DC will now be the coveted jobs. The young guys, Johnson, former OC at Detroit, now HC at Chicago, Kellen Moore, OC at Philly, now HC at New Orleans, are young, they'll learn...somehow Staley, who was an epic fail as HC for the Chargers, is in line to be OC at New Orleans.
Annie No. 4 Share Posted February 12 I remember several of the assistant coaches at Oregon under Rich Brooks were happy to stay as assistants at Oregon. They liked being position coaches, and working closely with the players. Back then I'm sure their salaries were nowhere near what assistant coaches can be paid today, but they liked what they were doing and they liked living in Eugene. Times change.
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 5 Share Posted February 12 Thank you, Darren, good stuff. And Chip in the NFL is one step farther away from having to deal with ridiculous roster turnover and fan outrage at a loss. It's OK to lose a game or seven+ in the NFL. And Chip has Six Million reasons to smile with the smile made brighter by Nevada having no state income tax. 1

And, now he doesn't have to do any recruiting, as minimal as I'm sure he was doing with the Buckeyes.

Mike West No. 9 Share Posted February 13 Darren, As usual, you can see the pattern amidst the chaos. That’s exactly the kind of thing Coordinators do so well. You’re at that level as an analyst.

GatOrlando No. 11 Share Posted February 14 Very good article. I think you are spot on Mr. Perkins. When you have an offensive coordinator leave a P4 school at Virginia Tech to become an offensive line coach at Ohio State , you know the separation of Big 2 and Other 2 is really taking hold.
