But....ugh, would hate to lose him. The Texas Longhorns lost running backs coach Tashard Choice to the Detroit Lions. Could this open up the door for Oregon Ducks assistant coach Ra'Shaad Samples to return home and join Steve Sarkisian's coaching staff? Samples is a Texas native. The Texas Longhorns lost a major piece of their coaching staff Thursday with the departure of running backs coach Tashard Choice, who is heading to the NFL to join the Detroit Lions in the same role. But as a result, the Oregon Ducks could be in danger of losing one of their top assistants as well in a domino effect of coaching changes. David Marsh No. 2 Share Posted February 14 (edited) Samples is in an incredible negotiating position. He's getting a pay raise for sure and probably a title bump too. I'm sure his agent is pushing his name everywhere he can. I feel Lanning is going to want to keep Samples but it will come with a steep price tag. EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 3 Share Posted February 14 He has already turned down an upward move to the Cowboys RB coach position. If he really wanted to return to Texas above all other considerations, that would have been the play. Going to UT is a lateral move unless it is paired with a promotion to co-OC and a big salary jump. This looks like a local writer chucking stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. Samples has more often been a WR coach than leading the RB room. Will he get offered the Adams position at Oregon? Salary jump + WR Room + co-OC that could turn into OC when Stein inevitably moves on to a HC job. Seems like a smart thing for DL and Mullins to consider if they really want to retain him. Who would he rather work for, Lanning or Sark? That one seems like a no brainer. 1
Augduck No. 4 Share Posted February 14 I just wish we could change the byline on the thread. Maybe it could read -Rumors on social media saying Texas MAY be interested in Rashad Samples.

This seems kind of funny because, when DL hired Samples, a whole lot of people questioned the decision. Now Samples seems to be a very hot commodity.
