NJDuck Moderator No. 1 Share Posted 7 hours ago Dan Lanning is getting a significant pay raise. Per Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, the Oregon coach is set to receive a new six-year contract that pays him an average of almost $11 million per season. The extension comes after Oregon was the only team to go undefeated during the 2024 college football regular season as the Ducks won the Big Ten before losing to eventual national champion Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Oregon and Dan Lanning have agreed on an amended 6-year contract that increases his annual pay by $2 million, sources tell @YahooSports. The fully-guaranteed deal averages nearly $11M annually - a significant investment by the university putting the 38-year old top 5 nationally. Jon Joseph Moderator No. 2 Share Posted 7 hours ago Well deserved! If Dan is Oregon's HC until he's 60, he'll be The Man who broke the bank at PERS.
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 3 Share Posted 6 hours ago First...I believe he will gradually evolve into a top-five coach, or better. (Once he learns to take-the-damn-points) and I do believe there is a deferred compensation arrangement with Phil that rewards longevity in Eugene. These DC contracts are private, and do not have to be reported. We are uncertain of its presence, but reference was made to it a few times over the last couple of years. This is a stunning amount for Lanning between both sources, and while I think he is exceptional and is worthy--I also think it is another element to keep him here a long time. 1 Mr. FishDuck
HDuck No. 4 Share Posted 4 hours ago As I read this, his base for the 2025-26 contract will go from $7.4 to $9.4 million. His contract does include $1M in annual deferred comp which would make the current year total $10.4 million. (Yes, there are public disclosure sources to coaches contracts at the UO, and a clause includes the deferred comp) The $10.4 is the first year of the now new 6-year contract which has annual escalators. By the 6th year, he would be over $11M so the six year "average" comes out a smidgen below $11M. In addition, the contract has "annual incentives" such as $150K to win B1G Championship, $200K if win 11 games, $$$ for CFP participation/wins, etc.
HDuck No. 5 Share Posted 4 hours ago Lanning will be 39 in April. No current head coach in the NFL under age 45 makes more than $9M. There are 7-8 established NFL coaches that make $11M or more topped by multi-Super Bowl champion Andy Reid at $20M.
