FishDuck Article Administrator No. 1 Share Posted Thursday at 09:05 AM A few years ago the University of Oregon acquired a home for their Portland Campus, the former Concordia University campus in northeast Portland. I personally have a connection to this campus, as I received my Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Concordia University in 2015, and as an Oregon alum as well, I find it strange that the University ... Autzen Magic No. 3 Share Posted 17 hours ago Yes, they should. It's not easy for us Portlanders to get to Eugene. In the past 11 months, I have attended an event at a winery that featured Coach Lanning (and had a nice conversation with him) and a basketball "show case" at West Linn HS where the men's and women's teams had some competitions (and I was able to have a conversation with Coach Altman). Both events were well attended. I went to the new Portland campus to watch the Oregon Soar (Women's ultimate frisbee) and it would be nice to have more events there. In fact, there is a law school event at the end of May that I plan to attend. Bottom line: I think it would be both beneficial to UO and its' fans to have more events in Portland.
DanLduck No. 4 Share Posted 14 hours ago I went to the practice at Hillsboro stadium. Throughly enjoyed it! Good attendance also. My thoughts are that practice times are so limited by NCAA rules, might a public practice limit game plan install? There is already huge fan interest in the Ducks so there wouldn't be much of a gain there. Bringing up all the equipment etc would be major logistics problem. Same with softball or soccer. The UP Pilots already have some baseball games, do fans turn out? As much fun as it could be for me, I don't see the gain for the effort from the Ducks perspective. Keeping the spring game is a big plus. That's enough for me.
Drake Moderator No. 5 Share Posted 12 hours ago I live in the Portland Metro area, and while a sport is easier for me to attend, I don’t think any of the teams should be obligated to play, or practice in Portland. There are times when the university needs to gain alumni support, and I fully support the idea of events being staged from time to time. However, I am not going to attend a practice, and most facilities in the Portland area don’t allow significant attendance, other than basketball, or perhaps soccer.

My proposal is that it should be a few one-off events. Making the team travel 4 hours round trip on a regular basis would be a bad idea for everyone involved. They have to travel enough with the B1G these days as it is. The Ducks are Eugene and Portland is their side show and I wouldn't dream of wanting UO to make their athletic base in Portland. But I'd take my family to some one-off Oregon events in the Portland area for sure, especially as my two daughters get older. They have some cool facilities on their Portland campus and it would be cool to see them used from time to time.
