It's pre-season make fun of rats and cougs time. Oregon State has a truly awful and messed up schedule because OSU and WSU went full scorched earth on the only conference that would help them... the Mountain West.

These schedules are absolutely dreadful and the sad fact of the matter is that for the Beavers and Cougs they might not even dominate these schedules they threw together out of desperation.

And perhaps the saddest part of it all is that OSU and WSU play each other TWICE!

Anyway... here are my record predictions.

Oregon State 7-5

Washington State 9-3

I think both come out with winning records but I think they both take some embarrassing losses.

And even if one of them comes out of this with say.... 11-1 these schedules are so bad that they aren't getting a playoff invite no matter what.

I’d put them both at 6 wins.

The Sewer Rats have a much worse floor though IMO. Their front loaded schedule makes losses more likely even at full strength. Thin depth could make the second half of their soft soft schedule worse than anticipated with a few key injuries and some wear & tear.

They also play 5 P4 teams, with 3 of these being perceived as teams in transition that they play at home and they seem to be penciling in as wins. I’d say in the age of NIL there’s a reasonable chance those squads (Cal, Wake, Houston) will have better rosters than the rats.

WSU has a much easier schedule than OSU which is saying something.

I would say 0-6. I don't think they will be coming out of Boone, NC with a win. The Mountaineers are starting over with a new coach, but they always play tough at home.

That QB transfer from Duke might make a diff. But he is not very bright apparently - sure Duke is a BB school, but it's still Duke!!! and their FB program is looking up - just see what their last QB transfer did at the right school.

So I think the rodents will win a few games this year, maybe barely have a winning record, considering their weak schedule. All I care is OBD blowing them out of the water when we meet up.

There are a lot of crap shoots in the first half of their schedule. Fresno is in a reset, Cal seems to have lost their good players, but they drubbed Beavis last year. Trip to Boone won’t be a sure win by any stretch. 0-6 is certainly not impossible, but I’m guessing a couple of their first 6 opponents will end up being terrible teams and Beavis will end up starting 2-4, then hope to stay healthy enough to finish up 4-2 down the stretch.

All very difficult to forecast given the portal world, but one would think any P4 team should be bringing in better new players than Beavis.
