Posted 19 hours ago19 hr At the risk of sounding naive or uninformed, can someone please tell me what the source is for the NIL numbers being thrown around so loosely in the media? I realize ON3 and perhaps others are generating/fabricating NIL values but I have not heard or seen any verifiable source(s) for individual or total player expenditures by collectives or schools.
19 hours ago19 hr The dollar amounts come from the same source. The writers who cover who is sleeping with whom in Hollywood. The most attractive starlets get the most pub and the highest level of conjecture about how they are able to get the juiciest movie roles. The actresses left on the roadside blame the "system" and everyone but themselves. Roadside coaches deflect and pass along rumors of "offers" in the same way.

8 hours ago8 hr From my understanding the media gets these numbers at times through connections and people inside these collectives. As of right now there is no formal reporting out there for amount paid. Last season the number that seemed to be fairly accurate for Ohio State was about 20 million for their entire team. A ton of money for sure. But when Gundy is throwing out Oregon is paying 40 mil for our team this year that is completely outlandish and he is throwing a number out there. Some commentators who I feel have a good idea for these things just said that number was wildly off by millions. The reality is that we don't know and those who do know are the people who run the NIL collectives. They don't need to release their numbers and as a result they don't. I'd imagine Oregon is probably around 4th or 5th in terms of overall spending. We spend for sure, but we aren't throwing money around like some programs. It was reported that we actually had an NIL offer slightly lower than Texas for Dakorian Moore. I don't remember the number anymore and are any of these numbers accurate? I don't know but it's all we have to work off of for now.
2 hours ago2 hr Moderator Keep in mind that much of the increase in a team's NIL expenditures is a result of trying to outbid other teams who intend to poach their rosters. That is exactly what happened to Ohio State last year. Most of their $20M was spent on keeping guys in Columbus. I would imagine Oregon has had to do the same.
1 hour ago1 hr Moderator No one fully knows what each collectives are giving the most. But here are a few articles I pulled quickly that might give you some idea. But again accuracy varies. Wasn’t able to find 2025 numbers. The best way to get understanding on this subject is research.Hope this helps.College Sports NetworkTop 10 NIL College Football Teams: Just 4 Schools Pass $2...Only four programs average over $200K per player in NIL: Texas, Oregon, Michigan, and Bama.
