Jon Joseph Moderator No. 1 Share Posted November 13, 2021 The following has been reported as the plan the Pac-12 will be presenting on 12/1/21 in an effort to break up the PO expansion log jam. You can bet that the Pac-12 would not introduce this idea without the approval of Alliance partners ACC + B1G. 12 team PO field. All P5 champs in and at least 1 G5 team in. 6 AL. Based upon Committee Week 2 rankings. 1. Georgia - SEC vs 9 Notre Dame AL at 8 Oklahoma B12 2. Alabama - AL vs 10 OK ST AL at 7 MI ST AL 3. Oregon - Pac-12 vs 11 A+M AL at 6 Michigan AL 4. Ohio State - B1G vs 12 Wake Forest ACC at 5 Cincinnati G5 An 8 team field with 5 P5 champs in is a no go outside of the Alliance. The above proposal may well be the compromise that is approved? WE NEED THE DUES!
David Marsh No. 2 Share Posted November 13, 2021 I'm fine with a 12 playoff with power 5 champions in ... It makes winning the championship matter even more. Right now it is just win and you're in but losing 2 is a season ending death sentence for cfp aspirations. But clawing back and winning a championship gives hope and opportunities. It gives a bid, it doesn't give anything else than that.
30Duck No. 3 Share Posted November 13, 2021 I like this because it takes the power away from a Committee. Winning a Conference is an achievement/ Leave the scenario's and drama to the At Large teams. 1

Fill December weekends with football that matters would be awsome. 1
Pocketchange No. 5 Share Posted November 13, 2021 At this point we should make a 4 team playoff with P5 teams minus the SEC. let the SEC play for their championship with themselves.

The G5, SEC + ND are not going to back an 8 team PO. 12 with all 5 P5 champs in and at least 1 G5 team in, seems to me to be a reasonable compromise? All P5 champs in should mean more impactful OOC games. And the P5 champs in means the Alliance OOC game and likely 2 P5 OOC teams for many teams will work out fine for all involved. The key to a PO with this format will be SOS for seeding purposes. A 1st round bye will be big. Not sure how the Rose Bowl traditional date and KO time factors into the Pac-12 proposal? If this proposal flies and ESPN is flexible with modifying the existing agreement which it has indicated it will be, we could see a 12 team PO as early as 2023? With the 12 team PO put out for bid in 2026. The Alliance cannot let principle trump the money that will flow from a bigger PO field. 3 to 4 SEC teams in? Big deal, that is what the SEC is doing today with the NY6 bowl structure. If CFB goes to 12, the Pac-12 has to dump divisions and the CA scheduling agreement . But a 9 game regular season could make sense under this format? With the extra Alliance OOC game that would mean at least 11 P5 games. But with schedules set so far out one wonders when there will be room to add the Alliance OOC game?
Jon Joseph Author Moderator No. 7 Share Posted November 14, 2021 FWIW, The Athletic's Andy Staples thinks that this proposal will be approved. A sound compromise all the way around.
