I love tradition, but not with venues. Either make all playoff games (except national championship) home games for the highest seed, or select a venue as equidistant as possible between the two opponents.

That’s way cheaper than what many of us paid for Penn State tickets. My guess is distance is playing a factor along with fans waiting until the semi-finals and championship games to make a serious investment into their teams.

End this Bowl Extravaganza and have an FBS Playoff managed by the NCAA.

Orange Bowl tickets are going for much less money than the semifinal matchup between Montana and Montana State in Bozeman, Montana.

Miami is a pro sports city. The U rarely sells out Hard Rock Stadium.

Why on earth would anybody put TT and Oregon in the Orange Bowl--in Miami?? What a crock.

They CFP has been committed to trying to keep with tradition. They give preference to the 1 seed and go down.

Rose Bowl - Pac 12/B1G TEN

Orange Bowl - ACC

Cotton Bowl - SEC/Big 12

Indiana gets the Rose Bowl because they are #1 and from the B1G. tOSU gets the Cotton Bowl because it is the next closest venue to them. UGA gets the Orange Bowl because they are from the SEC. TT gets whatever is left over.

The CFP doesn't care about the traveling fans. Butts in seats is pennies on the dollar when it comes to money making for the CFP.

UGA picked the Sugar Bowl due to history with the SEC.

New Orleans is also a bit over 100 miles closer to campus than Miami.

They probably have alumni data to know more alumni live closer to New Orleans than Miami?

This is a good discussion.

Delaying the season so long is just to keep the big bowls on New Year's, but what is the point if nobody shows up anymore because it's 3 away games for fans now not just one.

If you don't have Uncle Phil's jet, save your dough for the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, or a return trip to Miami?

Oregon has a great fanbase, but I imagine last week's home playoff ticket wasn't cheap. Flying to Miami, getting a hotel room, and buying a ticket are a bundle. The travel alone will price out a lot of people. These people who write these stories don't list traveling, lodging, and food prices. Especially on New Years Day, Miami isn't cheap on a random day in September.

Texas Tech doesn't really have a large traveling fanbase like Notre Dame, Penn State, or Ohio State, to offset the Oregon travel dilemma either.

One of the firmer ticket price bowls is upstate on Wednesday. Iowa vs Vanderbilt in Tampa is one of the few bowls holding firm on get-in price.

Not exactly an easy drive for Vandy...700 miles....but their fans are feeling some success. Iowa fans always travel, especially when the destination is sunshine and 70 degrees in comparison to snow drifts at home.
