Football Is Over, Baseball Is Around The Corner And Basketball Is A Hot Mess

I know we're all disappointed in the final game so I took a deep dive into our football program and as Duck fans we should hold our heads up and be proud of our team. I just got a notification that Dante Moore will be returning! See how blessed we are.

Chip Kelly 46-7 .868%

Under Chip, he posted undefeated records against both Oregon State and Washington, something never before achieved by an Oregon coach.

Mark Helfrich 37-16 .698%

Willie Taggart 7-5 .583%

Mario Cristobal 35-13 .729%

Dan Lanning 48-8 .857%

overall record 173-49 .779%

George Horton 375-281 .572%

Mark Wasikowski 206-106 .660%

overall record 581-387 .600%

Listening to the college baseball show with Jared Perkins, Mark Garland and Will Mossa, they pick our Ducks to finish in 2nd place in the B1G ten, only behind powerhouse UCLA.

Dana Altman 378-171 .689%

Our basketball program, for the most part, has been very competitive and exciting to watch. There has been the occasional bump in the road but overall have done fairly well. But this season is different. Is it the coaching, player development or NIL. For the past four seasons, there have been quite a few injuries that have derailed the Ducks.

Anybody have an answers how Coach Altman can turn this around?

Looking at our winning percentages in football, baseball and basketball, we should be very pleased at the winning cultural at Oregon.

I’ve pretty much checked out on hoops sadly enough. I actually forgot to watch the MSU game, but I’m in Hawaii on vacation so whatever.

I’ve watched most of our games though. This seems like a poorly constructed team with a key injury in what is a really tough conference this year. Keep waiting for the Dana turnaround but I don’t think it’s happening.

I honestly have no idea if Altman is going to rebound next year. I think he needs a complete reset in the program, not a single player other than Evans would I bring back, not a single one. This has been the worst season of basketball in a loooooooonnnnggggg time, I honestly think the team is worse than some of Kent's worst teams.

He has to recruit some of the bigger names in the transfer portal, we have not been able to get a single player in the last few years that would be considered a top 25 or 30 player in the portal. He has to get more guys like Figueroa, Moser, or Omoruyi. More proven guys from bigger programs. It might be that he just doesn't have much in the way of NIL to compete.

I guess we have a good freshman coming in next year in Tahj Ariza...but then you remember that Altman hasn't had the best luck with high profile freshman playing that well in their first year.

Looking forward to Baseball/Softball, we should be able to do well in both sports.

My amateur observation is that it is a roster construction problem.

I have no idea what NIL opportunities that Altman has to offer. But, I think it is time to take a hard look at the recruiting capabilities of his long-time assistants. This is a new era for roster construction, and my impression is they have not adapted very well.

I've always felt that being competitive in Big Ten basketball would be a struggle. But, landing between 16th and 18th in the standings will drain the program of energy and fan interest/attendance. Especially if the Ducks consistently end up in the bottom half going forward and get bounced early in the B1G Tournament.

Attendance, even in the best of times, has been soft for a variety of reasons. But, attendance for a team with a bunch of L's will be abysmal.

It is entirely roster construction.

If you go through each addition to the team this year you'll see a very unproven player who is also a weird fit for the team.

Basically struck out on every player that was brought in, combine this with Shelstad being injured, Evans suffering from Richardson-itis, Bittle being banged up constantly, and Phillips not developing, and you get the losing season it looks like this will produce.

I will always say it's possible that a light gets switched, but it seems a long way away at this point, and I have to wonder about the mood in the team, seems like it is snowballing into a non competitive team.

I do think that Dana has to take a look at his staff, it's a good point to wonder if this part of the recruiting struggles with transfers. It's weird since Oregon had such success with transfers until the last couple years.

Dana can bounce back, everyone was wondering if Graves was done after a couple bad years, but he's rebounding into looking like he's got the program back on track!
