WolfDuck No. 1 Share Posted January 8, 2022 (edited) Ducks pick up arguably Colorado's best defensive player (was All Conference honorable mention as a Frosh) and at an area of need, at that. Great news! Edited January 8, 2022 by WolfDuck
woundedknees No. 2 Share Posted January 9, 2022 Are those really Gonzo's quads? If so, he's probably a back pedaling freak!
EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 3 Share Posted January 9, 2022 Gonzales is a Bennett Williams type of DB/safety, tall and rangy kid that can play all over the field. He will be a great fit in Lanning's defense. Love or hate the transfer portal and what it represents, this is a great get for the Ducks
HappyToBeADuck No. 4 Share Posted January 9, 2022 Let's hope their are a few more experienced players headed ro Oregon. As injuries took their toll on the 2021 season it is clear you can never have enough talent on the roster. The ability to fill holes and immediate needs is one of the benefits of the portal. Their are downsides to the portal, too.
Haywarduck Moderator No. 5 Share Posted January 9, 2022 This is exactly what the portal will become, a player proves himself at a lesser school, then transfer to a better school. The next step is a bidding war on the top talent from lesser schools. I can see where, in the future, top schools will really only recruit the can't miss kids. The rest of the kids will come from the portal, and the lower schools top athletes. Why would a school recruit a borderline freshman, when they can pull sophomores who have proven themselves at the college level? Top school to a borderline 3-4* kid, 'go to Colorado and prove yourself and there will be a sweet NIL deal waiting for you next year.'

Lesser teams can sign but not keep these guys. BTW with Devin Lloyd graduating Utah has signed a LB who was Florida's leading tackler in 2021. Utah opens at Florida on 9/3. Unlike Oregon's one off game vs UGA, UF is playing a H+H with the Utes.
