Red Eddy Green No. 1 Share Posted October 24, 2022 Herbstreit brought up Chips nickname, while he coached at Oregon, on Gameday. Chip was known for his inovative and gutsy play calling. Did Chip lose his Big Balls during his pro career or did they remain on the Oregon campus undecended until now. Firsthandedly experiencing the excitment of Oregon football in soldout Autzen Stadiom brought back memories of Chip a decade ago on the winning sideline. Watching the surprise onside kick and recovery by the Ducks I came to the realization that the Big Balls had decended and reside on the Oregon sideline. They are DOUBLE D size and belong to DAN and DILLY. 2 1
Jon Sousa No. 2 Share Posted October 24, 2022 I was thinking the same thing... especially after the first "go for it" on 4th deep in Oregon territory.
ICamel No. 3 Share Posted October 24, 2022 When Chip was coach(OC & HC) at Oregon the players "bought in" on what Chip was selling. It is evident that the players now have "bought in" to what they are being presented by the Oregon staff.
Notalot No. 4 Share Posted October 24, 2022 I do not expect to hear anyone call the Ducks offense “boring” or “too predictable” anytime soon. Gutsy calls may emanate from BB, or convicted confidence in the OL and ball security by the ball handlers.
Mic No. 5 Share Posted October 24, 2022 If one listens carefully to what Dan Lanning said in his post-game presser (about the decision to on-side kick) they had planned and practiced for that given certain conditions during the kickoff as exhibited by the opponent. They thought about it on the first kickoff after the FG, then again after the 1st TD, but then, after the third possession the conditions were right and the decision was made to do it. This means is that it was a carefully calculated, practiced and rehearsed "play" that the kickoff team was well prepared to execute. It wasn't a sudden, reactive decision made on the spur of the moment. There's method to Lanning's 'madness' and that's probably why it worked so well. With Chip Kelly, those types of decisions always seemed to be ad hoc, spur of the moment, sudden decisions. Does it take 'balls' to make a calculated decision like that? Sure. But it also reflects a careful consideration of when to do it as well. Kudos to DL. 1
