In my searches, I often run across these type of articles and have just not done anything with them. With the football season coming to an end, there are fewer and fewer articles being written. I thought this would be the perfect time to start this "For Your Interest" thread. Postings will relate back to OBD in some way. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 4 Share Posted November 14 How Bo Nix made himself an elite QB and Heisman contender The temperature is slowly dropping below 50 degrees at Autzen Stadium on a Saturday night in November and a sleeveless Bo Nix is warming up his right arm by lacing 60-yard tosses from the Oregon end zone. Nix isn't just playing catch; he's changing the types of throws every time. Throws off his back foot, throws while rolling to his right, throws while sliding to his left, throws while sauntering up in the pocket, throws while moving back -- Nix wants to have all of them dialed in before he takes on USC. While the practice itself isn't novel, for Nix, it's emblematic of his evolution. The 23-year-old has had a college career that started in one decade and is about to end in another. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 5 Share Posted November 14 5 Reasons Why We Are Sad To See The End Of The Oregon/Oregon State Contest The end of the Pac-12 sucks. There is no outer way to put it. It’s one of the most storied conferences of all time, and of course, it’s “The Conference of Champions.” But the inevitable end is near, and we just have to suck it up and accept it. This means that the Civil War between Oregon and Oregon State could also be over. The Ducks are headed to the Big Ten next season, while the Beavers are still trying to work out their futures. There could be a chance for them to try to revive the Pac, or they could try to join a lower conference like the Mountain West. If the Big 12 ever opens its doors again, the Beavers would come calling, but it’s unlikely anytime soon. It sounded like the rivalry would continue when the Pac-12 made a push at keeping itself together, and even when Oregon was heading to the Big 10, but after releasing their 2024 schedule, the Beavers are nowhere to be found... 5 Reasons Why We Are Sad To See The End Of The Oregon/Oregon State Contest OREGONSPORTSNEWS.COM The end of the Pac-12 sucks. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 8 Share Posted November 15 6 players or recruits at Texas A&M with ties to the Oregon Ducks We are now deep into the month of November, which means the coaching carousel in the world of college football has started to churn. One of the first big firings took place this past weekend with the news that Jimbo Fisher was being let go by the Texas A&M Aggies. While a lot of fans and media members quickly started to speculate about whether or not Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning would consider leaving Eugene for College Station, others started to question which players and former Lanning recruits the Ducks would try to pull up to Oregon via the transfer portal. Now that Lanning disavowed any rumors vehemently on Monday night, we can whole-heartedly look at players on the current Aggies roster and their current recruiting class to see which guys have ties to Oregon. There’s absolutely no guarantee that any of them decide to leave Texas A&M, but in today’s age of college football, it’s become almost commonplace that players start to look elsewhere when a coaching staff that recruited them is removed. So which players at Texas A&M might start looking at the Ducks once again? Nix is a finalist for the second year in a row, and it marks the eighth time a Duck has been selected as a finalist. Marcus Mariota became the lone Duck to win the award during his 2014 Heisman Trophy season. Candidates for the Golden Arm Award must be a top senior or upperclassman quarterback on schedule to graduate with their class. Nix is joined by fellow finalists Jayden Daniels (LSU), J.J. McCarthy (Michigan), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) and Caleb Williams (USC). The 2023 award winner will be presented the Golden Arm Award trophy by The Johnny Unitas Educational Foundation President, John Unitas, Jr., as well as other notable attendees at the Golden Arm Award banquet and celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Earlier this week, Nix was announced as a semifinalist for both the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, and he earned Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season and sixth time in his career. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 17 Share Posted November 17 Ducks find success in new NIL landscape One of the main drivers pushing decision-making at all levels in recent years has been name, image and likeness deals, which have given collegiate athletes a way to profit off themselves. The NIL revolution came about due to the fact that college athletes had to overhaul their lives as well as present themselves as professionals while not reaping any of the benefits that the schools do. It has become a way for the athletes to see some of the output of the hard work that they put in to present their school in a positive light. Among others, Oregon has spearheaded this NIL revolution, as it has very strong connections to Nike and many charitable alumni. Their goal is to provide Oregon’s athletes with the top opportunities to make a profit off of their name and navigate certain parts of the professional world before they get there. In return, many of these athletes continue to partner with alumni-ran businesses as they move forward into their professional careers. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 47 Share Posted 13 hours ago Getting Loud: Career Records with Covid and Transfers Who gets to claim the career records for players who transfer? Bo Nix is the greatest QB in the history of both Oregon and Auburn. No disrespect to Justin Herbert, Marcus Mariota or Stan White (Auburn’s record holder, don’t worry, I had to look him up too), but his numbers are statistically the best ever seen at either school. I’m not talking about completion percentage or passer rating either. Though he blows away the competition in both categories there as well. I am talking about yards and touchdowns. With 7,499 yards right now, Nix will make #3 on the Oregon career passing yards board with 230 yards to pass Bill Musgrave, probably by the time they play “Shout” in Vegas this Friday. I don’t think he will make up the 3,000 yards he is behind Marcus Mariota and Justin Herber for the top 2 spots. But his career 14,750 yards and 105 TDs total makes him the best QB in the history of both Auburn and Oregon. So which school gets to claim him?
